Chapter 13 One on Three

Zhu Wenying walked in holding Baoyuan. Seeing everyone standing in the living room, she impatiently kicked the stool next to her and shouted, "Chen Xiangdong, what are you doing standing here? Do you want to starve us to death? I knew you weren't a good person. I don't know who you took after."

Her eyes drifted towards Old Lady Xia with disgust, clearly making a veiled complaint.

Before Chen Xiangdong could say anything, he saw a black shadow flash before his eyes, then heard a few crisp slaps, and then his wife screamed.

He looked closely and saw that his mother was blowing on her hand and covering Baoyuan's eyes with her other hand to prevent the child from seeing this indecent scene.

Unfortunately, Zhu Wenying didn't expect to scream, and the child was still scared and cried.

Old Lady Xia felt a little distressed. She had raised the child when he was young, so naturally, they were closer. Even in his previous life, the child would secretly give her snacks without telling his parents. He was a good child. But later, for some reason, he ignored her, perhaps influenced by his parents.

Seeing the child crying so hard and Zhu Wenying not trying to comfort him, Old Lady Xia wanted to hold the child in her arms, but Zhu Wenying hit her on the arm, leaving several bloody marks.

She was about to rush over and hit him, but Old Lady Xia's anger rose again. Although she felt a little sorry for her grandson, she didn't feel that much. She even wanted to kick out her son, whom she had raised since childhood, let alone her grandson who she had only raised for a few years.

Seeing that no one stopped her, Zhu Wenying put the child aside and tried to hit herself. Old Mrs. Xia did not sit there and wait for death, so she rushed up and started fighting with Zhu Wenying.

Zhu Wenying, a weak office woman, could not match the strength gained from years of hard work, and was soon pinned to the ground and beaten several times.

Sometimes Old Lady Xia couldn’t understand her. She clearly couldn’t beat her or scold her, so why did she always try to provoke her?

Seeing his wife being beaten by his own mother, Chen Xiangdong, the ungrateful man who had been watching the show from the side, disappeared and immediately came forward to help stop the mother.

Old Lady Xia was caught by him by the arm and hit in the face by Zhu Wenying's random beating. This made her very angry.

"Chen Weiguo, are you dead? You just watch your son help his daughter-in-law beat his own mother?" Old Mrs. Xia saw that Chen Xiangdong, this useless guy, only knew how to help his wife. Only old Chen was still puffing on his pipe. The only change in his face was a frown.

Old Chen couldn't sit still anymore. He stood up and walked over to the side. He looked a little anxious and busy, but he didn't even touch them. He was just pretending to be busy.

The more Old Lady Xia thought about it, the angrier she became. She grabbed Chen Xiangdong's hair and threw him hard onto Zhu Wenying. Then she sat on the two of them and beat Chen Xiangdong's face left and right. He couldn't even speak clearly.

When Old Chen saw his son being beaten like this, he grabbed Old Lady Xia's hand.

He was heartbroken when his son was beaten. He pretended not to see his wife being beaten. Good job, Chen Weiguo. Today, I'm going to beat up everyone in your Chen family.

Bursts of screams were heard from the house, and finally the neighbors heard it. However, the door was closed, so they didn't dare to go in. They all speculated about what inhumane things had happened inside.

"Could it be that Uncle Chen is beating Auntie?"

"That's impossible, right? They've never fought in their lives."

"Could it be that Xiangdong and his wife had a fight?"

"Maybe, as a son, his own mother was beaten by his wife. He must feel uncomfortable."

"Xiangdong doesn't seem to be such a filial child. On the contrary, he is easily influenced by his wife and listens to her."

"No matter how you listen, seeing your own mother being slapped by your wife for no fault of hers, any man with a bit of blood in his veins would be angry."

"That's true. Xia Yue'e is really confused. She's been so good to her family, but now she's finally exploded. What a pity! It makes things even more turbulent at home."

There was a bang on the wooden door. "Old Chen, Yue'e, are you okay?"

Inside the house, Old Chen, with his face swollen from the same blows as Chen Xiangdong's, dared not utter a word. A grown man being beaten by an old woman, how could they save face if they told others about it?

Zhu Wenying still wanted to curse, but the pain in her body and the sight of her husband and father-in-law's eyes being beaten so badly that they couldn't open made her finally learn to shut up.

This damn old woman, even if there were three of them against her alone, none of them could beat her. It turned out that she was just pretending before.

Old Mrs. Xia didn't think too much about it. When she heard someone knocking on the door, she threw Old Chen, who had become limp as mud in her hand, to the ground and ran over to open the door.

Zhu Wenying struggled to get up and held Baoyuan, who was still screaming and crying, in her arms, not daring to cry loudly. Unfortunately, even though her face was aggrieved, it was filled with disgust and anger towards Old Lady Xia, making her look particularly ferocious.

The door was opened and Old Lady Yin rushed in first. Seeing that it was Old Lady Xia who opened the door, she pulled her up and down and checked her carefully, but found nothing wrong.

"It's okay, Yue'e. That noise just now really scared us. I'm glad you're okay." Old Mrs. Yin was worried. She and Xia Yue'e had been neighbors for decades. Although she quarreled fiercely with others, she had never quarreled with her.

When she was first brought to the city by her son, she didn't know the personalities of the other people in the compound. She was secretly ridiculed and sometimes even cheated. At that time, she had just come from the countryside, was weak-willed and had low self-esteem, and didn't dare to conflict with them. It was Xia Yue'e who couldn't bear it and helped her several times.

Later, she figured out the rules of life in the compound, and with her son becoming a leader, no one else dared to bully her anymore.

But she remembered her kindness in her heart.

So this time, she was different from others. She didn't want to watch the fun, but was just worried that Xia Yue'e would be bullied. She was the first one to knock on the door.

"I'm fine." Old Lady Xia shook her head, grateful for Old Lady Yin's concern. In her previous life, before Old Lady Yin was taken to the big city by her son, she was often taken home by her son after being driven out. Before being taken away, she had told her ungrateful sons to be nice to her.

Unfortunately, I hadn't seen her for several years before I died.

Other neighbors who were watching the excitement outside also rushed in. Such rare things were really rare in the compound. Even Uncle Ma, who loved to beat his wife, didn't have such loud screams in his house. Those who didn't know the situation would think that a murder had happened here.

Caught off guard, the neighbors cried out in surprise when they saw the three men looking miserable.

Old Lady Xia thought, this is bad, my reputation for being vicious will get out. What if those people spread rumors, and she will be framed frequently in the future?

When Old Lady Yin heard the noise, she also looked inside. Seeing the miserable state of those people, they still didn't let go of Old Lady Xia's hand. Seeing Zhu Wenying still crying, she was very dissatisfied. "Wenying, no matter what, you can't beat your man like this. And your father-in-law, you just beat your mother-in-law in the daytime, and now you beat your father-in-law in the evening. You... are too cruel."
