The next day, the weather outside was gloomy and hot, with a drizzle.
In the south, it always rains in the summer.
Old Mrs. Xia packed up and went out to work with the second son. The others needed to rest at home for a few days because they had been beaten, so Old Mrs. Xia asked for leave for them.
Arriving at the factory, Old Lady Xia received many stares. Knowing that it was all due to the eldest brother's family, she did not care and went straight to the factory office, where she quickly applied for leave and obtained a certificate.
She came out of the factory office and met some old sisters from the workshop who were close to her.
"Yue'e, we've all heard about your family's situation. Are you okay?"
"Oh, your daughter-in-law is really going to be struck by lightning. I've lived for so many years and have never seen a woman who beats both her parents-in-law and her husband."
"Your Xiangdong couldn't even stop her?"
"Maybe you're too embarrassed to get serious with a woman?"
"She even beat up your Lao Chen. She's such a bad person. Lao Chen is such a good man, but he ended up with such a daughter-in-law."
"Are you okay? I heard the screams from your house at night. They were really scary."
"If you're injured, don't worry about the money. You still have to go to the hospital."
Faced with their concern, Old Lady Xia felt a little guilty. What did they think? It was obviously her who beat them. She was afraid that people would find out that she had let her daughter-in-law take the blame and underestimated herself. So Old Lady Xia directly admitted: "It wasn't my daughter-in-law who beat them. I was so angry that I beat them."
"You don't consider us your own people anymore. How could we not know your temper?"
"That's right. If you said you fought with us and beat us up, I would believe it. But if you said you beat up your son, daughter-in-law, and your husband, I absolutely won't believe it."
"With your personality, you're completely at the mercy of them. How could you possibly hit someone?"
"Let's take a step back and say, even if you had a conflict with your daughter-in-law and were so angry that you beat her, and you were also angry that Xiangdong helped her, so you beat your eldest son, but there's no way you would beat Old Chen, right?"
"Look at Old Chen's face full of wounds. How is he going to live in the future?"
"A father-in-law was beaten by his daughter-in-law. This is really..."
"Your daughter-in-law is really vicious."
"I'm not saying anything bad about you, but it's time for you, as a mother-in-law, to stand up and teach her a lesson. Stop letting her ride on your head."
"Zhu Wenying has become even more arrogant since she got married. It's fine if she just fights with Xiangdong and his wife, but why does she also beat her mother-in-law during the day and her father-in-law at night? Is she going to beat people three times a day in the future?"
"If this were the old society, she would have been in trouble."
"Don't even mention the old society. Even now, no matter how powerful our daughter-in-law is, she wouldn't be like this. I don't know how the Zhu family taught them. I dare not let my daughter-in-law come into contact with them."
"Yes, yes, yes. I'm going to go home and remind my daughter too. If she learns bad habits, it's hard to change."
Old Lady Xia said expressionlessly, "I really hit him."
"Alright, alright, stop taking the blame for your good daughter-in-law. Let's get back to work."
"If you need any help, just ask."
"You must take care of yourself."
Fortunately, Zhu Wenying was at home recovering from her injuries and not here. If she had heard these words, she would have gone crazy on the spot.
However, if she was going crazy, she would have trouble explaining this matter.
Old Mrs. Xia sniffed. She had already explained it all, so it wasn't her fault that others didn't listen. It was Zhu Wenying's fault for having a bad relationship with others. People thought she was the kind of person with bad character who would hit her elders.
Old Mrs. Xia took the certificate and met the second brother on the road, and went home with her to get her luggage.
She had explained everything, but they didn't believe her. There was nothing she could do. It was Zhu Wenying's fault for being so domineering before. It was Zhu Wenying's fault for not even trying to save her face and treating her badly in front of outsiders.
Everyone's impression of her is that she is a second daughter-in-law, and there is nothing she can do about it.
She asked her second son to carry the luggage and walked out of the house. Suddenly, she heard a quarrel coming from the opposite door, followed by the sound of a door slamming shut.
Old Mrs. Xia looked carefully and found that it was Hu Jie. He was back?
Oh, yes, she saw a few plums on the table yesterday, probably the child brought them from out of town. Yesterday was a bit messy, so she didn't bother to ask.
The child was very nice to his neighbors. Every time he drove a truck to deliver goods to other places, he would bring back some small things to share with them.
Seeing him being driven out by Uncle Ma with his head drooping, he quickly stepped forward and asked, "Xiao Hu, what's wrong with you?"
She tilted the umbrella over his head and said, "It's raining, and you don't even hold an umbrella for yourself. What are you holding in your arms, and why are you holding it so tightly?"
Hu Jie took out a corner of the item in frustration. "This is the coat Uncle Ma asked me to buy for his daughter's wedding. It cost a lot of money, but he just said he doesn't want it anymore and won't even pay me. What should I do?"
Old Lady Xia frowned. "How can you refuse something I asked you to bring? You don't have a woman at home, so these clothes are useless. It will be many years before your Yingying grows up, and these clothes might be worn out by then."
Hu Jie nodded. "Uncle Ma said his daughter isn't getting married yet, so the clothes are useless and he wanted me to return them. But clothes from out of town can't be returned, and I don't know when I'll be there next time."
"But he won't give it to me, so I have no choice but to try next time the factory lets me go there. If I can return it, I'll do so. At most, I'll lose some money. Or I can ask other people in a few days if they like the clothes. Even if I sell them at a loss, I can still make some money back."
