Chapter 209 What do you do?

Tang Jiao stared at Chen Xiangnan with admiration all the way, chattering about their hospital affairs. She split a sweet potato that Chen Xiangnan had brought in half, giving it to her and Chen Xiangnan. She even took a large bag of red dates from Tang's father's drawer, which his mother had bought specifically for his health.

"This bag of red dates my mom bought is big and sweet. You can have it as a snack or make soup with it. You should drink more of it when the time comes." Tang Jiao was particularly happy today. "Next time I go home, I'll get some of the smoked meat I bought. It's delicious too."

Chen Xiangnan also smiled: "I accidentally received an old watch from somewhere else before. You can bring it to our mother when the time comes."

Tang Jiao opened her eyes wide, "A watch? For my mom?"

Chen Xiangnan: "My mom already has one, and she also bought a new one when you got married, so you can take this back with you when the time comes. Don't keep moving things over there, otherwise my dad will be even more angry when he sees me."

Tang Jiao: "No way, my dad must have been impressed by you today."

Tang's father returned home against the cold wind, took off his scarf and gloves and put them on the clothes hanger. Then Tang's mother brought out the food for him, which was specially reserved for him and had been kept warm in the pot.

"Old Tang, are you in trouble again?"

Tang's father's eyes were shining. He had been holding it in all the way. It was not convenient for him to share his feelings with his colleagues in the hospital as it would make him seem too unstable. But he really had a lot to say today. His expression was exactly the same as Tang Jiao's when she was watching the fun.

He hadn't even swallowed a mouthful of food when he started talking about the hospital. "You know, our son-in-law is actually pretty good, isn't he? Besides being unemployed and a bit of a jerk, he's also a divorced man with a child and a wife who died. Uh..."

As if to make amends, he added, "But he has a first-rate personality. He's warm-hearted and eloquent. You didn't know that he just scared the patient's family in the hospital so much that they paid him so happily."

Tang's mother made him another soup. When she brought it out, Tang's father was still praising his cheap son-in-law, "Okay, eat first, otherwise the food will get cold."

Tang's father immediately lowered his head and started eating. Halfway through, he wanted to praise again, but when he looked up, he found that his wife had a sad face.

Tang's father asked in confusion, "What's wrong? Why does he look not only unhappy but also worried? Our son-in-law is a very good person. What are you worried about?"

Tang's mother hesitated for a moment and expressed her guess, "Do you think our son-in-law is a gangster? He only hangs out with those vicious people. What if he does something bad in the future..."

Tang's father immediately shook his head, "How is that possible? Apart from our mother-in-law, no one else in their family can do anything bad."

Tang's mother: "You mean, my mother-in-law will do bad things?"

Tang's father laughed. "She's a bit fierce, but she's a regular employee at the textile factory after all. Besides her temper and tendency to get into fights, she's quite popular. She wouldn't do anything bad."

Tang's mother: "Didn't she kick out her eldest son and his family? Isn't that a bad thing?"

Tang's father remained silent. He felt that Old Chen and Old Lady Xia were unqualified parents. If a child couldn't be taught well, they should be taught slowly. No one is born bad. If his son did something worse than pigs and dogs, he would only think it was his fault, that he, as a father, had failed to fulfill his responsibilities.

Tang's father couldn't stand the fact that they were kicking out an entire family just because their child made a mistake. No matter what, his grandson was innocent. He couldn't agree with kicking out all of them without distinguishing between good and bad, and forcing his son to marry into the family.

"Let's get to know each other better and persuade Old Chen," the father in Tang's heart suddenly had this thought. Even if the eldest son of the Chen family is a bad boy, he is still a human being, not a beast. As long as the right method is used, maybe he can turn back.

But then again, let's put his boss's affairs aside for now and talk about his good son-in-law first. If Chen Xiangnan really got together with that gang of hooligans, he would definitely find a way to correct him. But no matter how he looked at it, he felt that Chen Xiangnan was not that kind of person. "Anyway, I think our son-in-law is a very decent person. It's impossible for him to be like what you said."

Tang's mother said, "You always think the best of people. Have you ever thought about how much money your good son-in-law spent on marrying our Jiaojiao? Where did all that money come from? He doesn't have a job, so where did his money come from? Don't tell me he earned it by doing manual labor. He doesn't look like he does any heavy work, let alone saving it. He used to be a temporary worker. How could he have so much money to treat several tables and buy a sewing machine?"

Tang's father was unconvinced. "Maybe it was his parents who paid for it. Jiaojiao has me as her father, and her family is well-off. She's a capable nurse too. Old Chen would definitely be willing to spend a fortune to help his good-for-nothing son get married. They've worked so hard for so many years, how could they not afford it?"

Tang's mother: "You don't know the gossip about their family that's circulating among us women, do you?"

Tang's father pricked up his ears. "What gossip?"

Tang's mother said, "Old Lady Xia once made a big fuss about how they would not care about the second son's second marriage and the third son's first marriage. They would marry based on their ability, and if they didn't, they would remain single for the rest of their lives."

Tang's father opened his eyes wide, "How can there be such a person? It's impossible. Is he just a softie?"

Tang's mother shook her head and whispered, "I heard that the sewing machine was bought with industrial tickets that guy bought on the black market... He spent months saving up for it. He even paid for the wedding banquet himself and hired the chef to cook. Someone asked my mother-in-law about the chef's price and the source of the dishes, but she didn't know anything. I think she just helped out and didn't contribute a penny."

Tang's father was surprised. "These days, there are still guys who marry without spending their parents' money. This guy is really capable."

Tang's mother was worried again. "So I really don't understand how he got all this money. I'm afraid he did something shameful."

This time, Tang's father took his words to heart and began to worry. In order to keep Chen Xiangnan away from his daughter Jiaojiao, he had staked out Chen Xiangnan several times before. Every time, the boy would go out early and come back late, sometimes with mud on his body. No one knew where he was going.

If, as his wife said, he was doing some unspeakable way to make money, Tang's father would be even more upset. What if...something happened to that kid, what would happen to his Jiaojiao in the future?
