Chen Xianghong and Yu Hongzhen finally decided to get married.
On a sunny afternoon, Yu Hongzhen and Chen Xianghong appeared in the house rented by Old Mrs. Xia.
Chen Xianghong was very uneasy. She had not gone to see Old Lady Xia for a while. Even though she felt very uncomfortable being bullied by Chen Xiangbei every day, she still did not go.
She couldn't be as heartless as Chen Xiangbei. Even if she made her mother unhappy, he would turn around and pretend that nothing had happened and continue to stay close to her mother. Whatever happened would be the same.
She can't.
Whenever she thought of her mother, she would always remember the words she scolded her and the slap she received. Although all of her brothers and sisters had been slapped, even her eldest sister-in-law was no exception, she still couldn't get over the shadow of that slap.
From childhood to adulthood, although her mother was not as good to her as to her brothers and sisters, she never touched her. But that day, she slapped herself with a dark face, which almost made her collapse. She always felt that her mother would no longer love her from then on.
If she had known this would happen, she would have stayed in the countryside instead of coming back. At least she could have been a good child in her mother's heart.
On the way to meet Old Lady Xia, Chen Xianghong said nothing, but thoughts came one after another in her mind.
Sometimes she thought her mother might shut her out the door the moment she saw her, sometimes she thought her mother would scold her if she told her mother about her marriage, and sometimes she thought it would be even more embarrassing if her mother kicked her out. Anyway, no matter how she thought about it, it didn't seem like a good thing.
Yu Hongzhen saw that she was in a bad mood and knew her concerns, but he couldn't not even tell his own mother about such a big thing as marriage. Aunt Xia was not the same kind of person as his parents. Overall, she was much more normal than his parents. At least she was a normal person with emotions.
"Don't worry. If your aunt wants to hit or scold you, just come to me. I will definitely protect you." Yu Hongzhen said in a sonorous and firm voice.
"Who do you want to hit or scold?"
A voice came from the alley to the side of them, and they both turned to look.
No one knew where Chen Xiangbei had gone crazy again. He was covered in dust and dirt, and was wearing old clothes that he had messed up in the past few years. He didn't even wear new clothes. He walked out of the alley alone, and his cheeks and hands were red from the cold, making him look even more miserable.
But as he got closer to them, his expression became more and more...weird.
"Third brother, how did you become like this?" Chen Xianghong stepped forward and wanted to help him pat his clothes, but was blocked by Chen Xiangbei.
"Sister, why... are you and Captain Yu here?" Chen Xiangbei asked.
Chen Xianghong hesitantly told her that they were going to look for her mother because they were getting married and wanted her to attend.
"Do you think Mom would agree?"
Chen Xiangbei looked at his sister, who had been weak since childhood, with an indescribable look on his face. He didn't know whether his mother agreed or not, but he knew that if his sister asked like this, his mother would definitely be angry again.
"Where are you going to do it?"
Yu Hongzhen stepped forward and handed him a handkerchief, asking him to wipe his face. "We'll treat everyone to a meal at the army, and then set up a few tables in the compound."
Chen Xiangbei: "My dad's compound?"
Yu Hongzhen nodded. Where else could they go? They couldn’t let everyone go to the house rented by Aunt Xia. There were many old neighbors there.
Chen Xiangbei: "How should my parents sit? Will they sit at the same table? Do you need Mom's help with the things you need to do for your wedding? How should we arrange for Mom and Dad to have tea together?"
Chen Xianghong and Yu Hongzhen both shook their heads. They had not thought of it to this extent.
Chen Xiangbei sighed and said in a condescending tone, "You guys really think this is too simple. You haven't thought about it as much as I have for you. Obviously, you two are older than me."
It’s not that Chen Xiangbei can’t stand seeing his sister doing well. After all, she is his biological sister and has been very good to him since he was a child. But didn’t his mother scold her for being like this in the past?
Chen Xiangbei now depends on his mother for his livelihood, so he must think what his mother thinks and worry about what his mother worries about. He cannot follow them and be looked down upon.
But Chen Xiangbei immediately lost interest in giving them advice for nothing. He would only be motivated if Qiao Yi would give him more than ten yuan for gathering information for him.
Thinking of Qiao Yi's matter, Chen Xiangbei's eyes suddenly lit up, and he looked straight at Yu Hongzhen like a small light bulb, "Brother-in-law, can you do me a favor?"
Yu Hongzhen: ...This is the legendary Captain Yu who is always in trouble. Do you want to call me brother-in-law if you need anything?
"What?"
Chen Xiangbei smiled slyly, "I'll tell you when I've made up my mind. You must help me. Human lives are at stake."
Yu Hongzhen: "Don't use idioms carelessly. Can you wait for me to think things through when human lives are at stake?"
Chen Xiangbei: "You don't understand."
Seeing that Chen Xiangbei was about to start nagging again, Chen Xianghong interrupted him immediately and asked, "Third brother, if you have any ideas, please tell us first."
Chen Xiangbei: "I see. Then brother-in-law, can you help me?"
Yu Hongzhen is quite principled: "I can't do anything that violates discipline, but I can do things within my ability."
A few gusts of cold wind blew from the alley behind. Chen Xiangbei shrank his neck and looked more like a little turtle. "Brother-in-law, don't worry. I will never violate your rules. This is a great thing."
Yu Hongzhen frowned: "Don't talk like the devils."
Chen Xiangbei rolled his eyes. This guy is so boring. He only knows how to teach him a lesson. If he has the guts, go teach his mother a lesson. He was a bit of a jerk when he saw his mother, but in front of him, he really became his brother-in-law and started to discipline him.
Ugh!
Chen Xiangbei cursed in his heart, but he did not show any dissatisfaction on his face. He was still begging someone.
"Sister, Mom loves you the most. As long as you are a little thick-skinned and tougher, Mom will be happy." Chen Xiangbei said casually. Anyway, when his mother scolded people before, she always said that his sister was a good-for-nothing who would only be bullied by herself. Wouldn't it be all right if he just had a tougher personality?
If being tough doesn't work, then just be shameless. She's your mother, not a monster. Which mother wouldn't be soft-hearted towards her own child, unless that child is like that bullshitter Tian Chengping.
Unable to understand this, Chen Xiangbei felt that the two of them only grew older but not smarter, just two idiots hanging together.
But he forgot that when others said this before, they were talking about him.
However, Chen Xiangbei never took such unpleasant words to heart. If he remembered the insults others said to him every day, wouldn't that be hard on himself?
Just live comfortably and don’t think too much or too deeply. A day of happiness is also a day of pain. Isn’t it up to you to live your life?
