Chapter 48 Funeral

The next day, Chen Xiangnan got up.

He had to go to work today. He hadn't been to work since returning from the village where Chen Xianghong had been working. If he didn't go to work, he would lose his job as a temporary worker.

He asked Chen Xianghong to take good care of the child, and the most important thing was not to let Chen Lingling be taken away by Dong Chunmiao, and not to let them be alone together.

Chen Xianghong also knew that her second sister-in-law was mentally ill and would really hurt Chen Lingling, so she immediately promised not to let the child out of her sight.

Except for Dong Chunmiao, all the adults went to work, so Chen Xiangbei ran out after dinner.

"Lingling, Baoyuan, auntie will make you some delicious rice crust later, okay?"

The two children laughed happily. The rice crust was fragrant and crispy, and no child would dislike it.

Seeing no one paying attention to her, Dong Chunmiao ran out alone. She hadn't slept all night last night. One moment, Dai Wei was under investigation at the Public Security Bureau, and she was worried that she would be found out. The next moment, she was worried that Chen Lingling was unlucky for her and her family. Her whole family had died, leaving her alone, and Chen Xiangnan had divorced her and kicked her out.

Her head was groggy, but she was terrified.

She went directly to the Public Security Bureau to inquire about the situation, but they told her that they were still investigating and would only tell her when there was a result. She had no choice but to give up and went to the hospital instead.

Although she now has some opinions about her natal family, she still habitually asks them for advice when encountering problems.

In the hospital, her two sisters-in-law came over and spoke sarcastically to her when they saw her, saying that she only cared about her in-laws and didn't care about the life and death of her own parents and brother.

Dong Chunmiao's mother brainwashed her again, and she reconciled with her parents' home. She was busy running around for most of the day before she came out.

Dai Wei's wife was walking on the street in a daze. She had just gone to ask someone, and he was crying, making a fuss, and looking like he was about to commit suicide. Then a kind-hearted person told her that the best outcome for Dai Wei's situation would be death through forced labor, because the punishment for this case is really severe now.

Dai Wei's wife feels like she has no hope in her life. Her two children are so young, and her parents-in-law are in poor health. Yesterday, when she walked home and told them about the incident, they blamed her for making a big deal out of it. Otherwise, how would the police have known about it?

If it weren't for her, even if Dai Wei really had something going on with that wild woman, he wouldn't have ended up like this.

Her mother-in-law, who had been lying in bed for many years, used all her strength to pick up a cup and smash it on her head, breaking her head.

The two children also cried and asked for their father.

Dai Wei's wife felt like she was going to die. She couldn't stay at home any longer and hurried into the city, where she sat in front of the Public Security Bureau all night.

Her father-in-law also came. He was afraid that he would never see his son again, so he wanted to take this opportunity to see him.

Unfortunately, the police won’t allow it.

Dai Wei was the family's breadwinner, and the family depended on his meager income to survive. If he were sent to labor camp, or if he were killed, the family would be doomed.

Her father-in-law even said last night that if Dai Wei died, he would kill her too. She would die sooner or later anyway, and he would not give her the chance to remarry.

Dai Wei's wife was so scared that she wanted to go back to her parents' home, but her father-in-law wouldn't let her, so she just walked around and sat near the Public Security Bureau.

"Dad, I saw that woman." Dai Wei's wife stared at the woman in front of her fiercely and said with gritted teeth.

"Which woman?" Her father-in-law squinted his eyes and looked at the people coming and going.

"It was that wild woman that Dai Wei hooked up with. She was the one who got Dai Wei into jail."

Her father-in-law stared at Dong Chunmiao, "Is it her?"

"Yes, that's her."

Her father-in-law was even more excited than she was. He didn't even want to think about any consequences. He walked up to Dong Chunmiao tremblingly, holding his chest and pointing at her, "You..."

Dong Chunmiao was confused. "What's wrong, sir?"

The other party ignored her and walked away.

Dong Chunmiao thought he had recognized the wrong person. She didn't see Dai Wei's wife either, so she continued walking without thinking anything.

Before she had taken a few steps, she felt a dull pain at the back of her head, followed by several heavy blows, and she fell to the ground.

"Ah... murder..."

She heard someone shouting, and then fell into darkness.

Chen Xiangnan rushed to the hospital. He had only been on duty for two hours when something big happened at home.

Dong Chunmiao died just like that.

He was a little bit unbelievable. He had quarreled with her last night. He was still worried about the divorce and was annoyed that she was indifferent to the children and him.

Yesterday, he questioned her in the corridor of this hospital in front of so many people.

But now, she was lying coldly on the hospital bed, covered with a white cloth, and was about to be pushed to the morgue.

Part of the blood on the back of the head was wiped off, but there were still a lot of black bloodstains left on the white sheets.

He slowly uncovered the white cloth. Dong Chunmiao lay quietly with her eyes closed. Her pretty face began to turn gray and blue. She had lost a lot of blood.

He didn't know what he felt in his heart. Although he wanted a divorce, he didn't want Dong Chunmiao to die.

Now she is dead and the murderer has been caught. It is none other than Dai Wei's biological father. Feeling that he had no hope in his life, he wanted to drag Dong Chunmiao, the wild woman who killed his son, to take the blame.

The impact is too bad. According to the police, Dai Wei's father will definitely be shot. Dai Wei's result has just come out, and he will be sent to labor camp for 30 years.

When Dai Wei's wife heard the verdict, she returned to the village overnight, abandoned her two children and ran away.

"Don't they want to pay compensation?" Dong Chunmiao's mother held the police officer outside the morgue tightly with her other uninjured hand and asked.

"My daughter is dead, and the murderer's family won't pay compensation? Then her death was in vain, right? My poor Chunmiao~"
