Chapter 60: Stay away from Xu Yao
The morning light was just breaking, and there was still a hint of coolness in the air. Xu Yao wrapped her thin coat tightly around herself.
She pushed the bicycle, and the wheels rolled over the bluestone road, making a "gurgling" sound, like an alarm clock in the early morning.
Xue Han had been waiting at the door for a long time, dressed in an upright army green uniform, like a straight poplar in the morning light.
"I'll take you there." He said briefly, took the handlebars from Xu Yao, pushed the bicycle forward.
The two walked side by side, no one spoke, only the "gurgling" sound of the wheels and the occasional bird song broke the silence of the early morning.
Xu Yao's gaze fell on Xue Han's broad back, and she felt inexplicably at ease.
Suddenly, she noticed that there seemed to be something wrong with the lock on the back seat of Xue Han's bicycle. After a closer look, she gasped - the lock had been pried open!
A chill ran up from the soles of her feet to her head, and the vicious throat-cutting gesture when her third sister was taken away last night flashed through her mind.
Before she could speak, a loud voice broke the silence of the early morning: "Yaoyao girl! Wait!"
It was Old Zhang who sold cloth at the market. He ran over breathlessly, his face full of anxiety: "Someone stuck a nail into your tire last night! Luckily I got up to pee and saw it, otherwise you would have..." He didn't say anything else, but the expression on his face said it all.
Xu Yao felt cold all over, as if she was in an ice cellar.
She subconsciously looked at Xue Han, but saw that his expression was normal, but there was a barely perceptible cold light in his eyes.
At this moment, Xue Han suddenly came out from a nearby alley, holding a few thin nails in his hand, and said in a calm tone that was a little scary: "There are copper lock buckles of the Sun family on the nails."
Xu Yao was shocked. The Sun family...could it be Sun Zhiqiang?
With a sharp brake sound, Sun Zhiqiang rushed over on his bicycle and crashed straight into Xu Yao!
"Yaoyao! I was wrong!" He pretended to fall down, hugged Xu Yao's thighs, and cried, "I shouldn't have broken off the engagement with you! Please forgive me! I can't live without you!"
This sudden change caught Xu Yao off guard. Before she could react, she felt a powerful force pulling Sun Zhiqiang off her legs.
Xue Han grabbed Sun Zhiqiang by the collar and lifted him up like a chicken, his eyes as cold as a knife: "You sprinkled the ashes from your family's ancestral grave on Xu Yao's fabric. Do you want my sister-in-law to get a skin disease?"
Sun Zhiqiang's face turned pale instantly, as if he had seen a ghost.
Only then did Xu Yao notice that there was some ashes on the cuffs of Xue Hanjun's coat, and it was obvious that he had already discovered Sun Zhiqiang's trick.
Sun Zhiqiang panicked and pointed at Xue Han and shouted, "He is the arsonist! My warehouse caught fire last night, it must have been him!"
Xue Han sneered, "Your warehouse didn't catch fire last night. The fire department's records show that it was caused by rats chewing through the wires." He paused and took out a matchbox from his pocket. "But you wrapped the oil-soaked matches in the cloth for Xu Yao. What's your intention?"
Sun Zhiqiang was completely dumbfounded. He didn't expect Xue Han to have seen through all his schemes...
"You..." He opened his mouth, but nothing came out.
Xue Han pushed him away, patted the dust off his hands, and said in a cold tone: "Stay away from Xu Yao in the future."
He turned around and helped Xu Yao up, his eyes gentle: "It's okay, let's go."
Xu Yao nodded, followed Xue Han and pushed the bicycle forward. After walking a few steps, she suddenly stopped and looked back at Sun Zhiqiang who was slumped on the ground...
The hustle and bustle of the market was like boiling water. Faces filled with people watching the fun squeezed in the gaps between the stalls, turning the originally spacious road into a narrow path as narrow as a cow's hair tip.
Xu Yao tightly grasped the corner of her clothes, her fingertips turning slightly white. Although she told herself several times to stay calm, her eyes could not help but scan the crowd, and she actually vaguely saw the familiar shadow of her grandson's mother.
Sure enough, before she could react, a figure suddenly rushed out from the crowd of onlookers and rushed straight towards the account book that Xu Yao was holding tightly in her hand like an eagle swooping down on its prey.
Sun's mother's clothes were disheveled, her hair was loose, her face was full of ferocity, and her eyes were filled with strong reluctance and ferocity.
"Give me back the account book, you little bitch!" She grabbed Xu Yao's wrist like crazy. Her movements were extremely fast, and her nails were so sharp and long that it seemed like they could cut off a piece of flesh.
But her speed is not as fast as Xue Han's.
Xue Han quickly put one hand in front of Xu Yao, and with the other hand he grabbed Sun's mother's wrist with incredible precision. His movements were clean and neat, and the force was enough that Sun's mother didn't even have the strength to struggle and was directly clamped.
"A wretch like you is worthy of touching her?" He spoke coldly, his voice as low as a biting cold wind, making people shudder.
The next second, Xue Han exerted force with his hands, and Sun's mother screamed "Ah". Before she could recover from the pain, she was dragged half a circle and thrown hard onto the bluestone slabs, as if she were thrown a rag.
There was a loud bang and Sun's mother fell heavily to the ground. Her hair was scattered and dust was flying everywhere. A jar of pickled vegetables was knocked over by her buttocks and she lay on the ground like a toad, unable to move.
With the sound of the jar breaking, a ball of grayish-white powder accompanied by the pungent sour smell of pickled vegetables flew out, looking particularly glaring in the sunlight.
Xu Yao's pupils contracted instantly - that powder was so familiar!
In her previous life, her daughter had severe abdominal pain after eating a dish from the Sun family’s banquet, and died within a day.
And that poison is arsenic!
"Is this the Sun family's way of 'saving lives for future use'?" Xue Han's eyes were cold as he picked up the white powder and threw it towards the crowd regardless of the threat.
"Everyone, look carefully, this is arsenic!" His voice was so powerful that it exploded in the air, mixed with the faint disgusting smell of rotting vegetables and sour powder, which made a group of onlookers take half a step back in one breath.
Sun's mother lay on the ground, her face ashen, her eyes full of despair and panic, her lips trembling but she couldn't utter a word.
She obviously didn't expect that the secret at the bottom of the jar of pickles would be revealed in full view of everyone.
Xu Yao's legs felt a little weak. The countless tears from her past life were like exploding knives, all flooding into her heart at this moment.
"Is this what your Sun family is capable of? You destroy people's lives and still pretend to be righteous?"
Xue Han sneered, clenched his fists, and the sharpness in his eyes was like a knife that could cut people's scalps and make them numb: "Your daughter's life will be returned to you by your Sun family today!"
Sun's mother collapsed on the ground, her eyes red, but she dared not say a word in argument.
Uncle Zhang and other stall owners at the market all exclaimed in surprise, and their voices were like the sound of a steamer being opened, one louder than the other.
"Who else wants to speak?" Xue Han swept his eyes sharply over the crowd of onlookers and kicked over the half-broken cloth bag that Sun's mother was trying to move, causing the powder to fly like dust.
Meanwhile, the street director had already arrived with his men, who were completely frightened by Sun Zhiqiang's fate.
The scene was unprecedentedly solemn.
