Chapter 37 Social Skills and Courtesies: Hosting a Banquet for the Company Commander! (1/2)

The more she thought about it, the angrier she became, and a surge of anger rose within her.

On what grounds?

Why should that Uyghur girl get the better treatment?

He not only got bitten by a dog, but also embarrassed himself!

"Hmph! So smug! Let's see how long you can be so smug!"

Ma Jinbao gritted his teeth, plotting fiercely in his mind.

"The regulations for educated youth are written very clearly! For the first three years after arriving in the countryside, no dating! No relationships! It will disrupt production!"

"Du Jianshan, you just wait!"

"You dare steal what I want? I'll report you for having an affair! You'll regret it!"

He muttered to himself, his eyes darting around, his face contorted as if he'd swallowed a fly.

Wang Tieniu, who was walking in front, glanced back and saw Ma Jinbao's gritted teeth and muttering to himself.

He nudged Du Jianshan's arm, looking disgusted: "Brother Shanzi, look at that idiot Ma Jinbao, what's he muttering about in the back? His eyes are practically bulging out, like he's about to eat someone alive!"

Du Jianshan didn't even bother to turn his head, and scoffed, "Who cares what he's muttering about? He's a moron, ignore him. Getting to work is the priority!"

"Alright!" Wang Tieniu replied, too lazy to bother with the two troublemakers behind him anymore.

In the vineyard, newly transplanted grapevines droop listlessly on simple bamboo trellises.

The company assigned us the task of building a sturdy grape trellis as soon as possible.

Du Jianshan and Wang Tieniu were assigned to the same group.

Du Jianshan was incredibly strong; he swung his pickaxe and dug the pit quickly and deeply.

Wang Tieniu took a sip of Du Jianshan's water and felt full of energy. He carried the thick wooden stakes and ran very fast, digging holes and burying stakes with smooth and effortless movements.

While others toil away for ages to erect a small section, these two quickly set up a sturdy frame in a few strides.

After Du Jianshan finished his own work, he looked up and saw Ayiguli struggling to hold onto a few unstable bamboo poles, trying to tie them securely on tiptoe.

Without saying a word, he picked up the remaining wire and walked over.

"It has to be tied like this to be secure." Du Jianshan took the bamboo pole from Ayiguli's hand and tied it securely in a few quick movements.

"Thank you, Comrade Du..." Aygul said softly, her cheeks slightly flushed.

She had already put on that large "sun protection clothing," and the big hat blocked the scorching sun. Her exposed skin was indeed not so hot, and she felt much more relaxed while working.

Du Jianshan waved his hand: "Don't mention it, it's just a small favor."

This scene, witnessed from a distance, was even more jarring to Ma Chunmei's eyes!

She was so angry she almost broke the bamboo pole in her hand!

Work? What a load of crap!

Her buttocks and feet hurt, and seeing Du Jianshan so relaxed and even helping his "lover" made her furious!

The next ten days or so passed in pretty much the same way.

Du Jianshan and Wang Tieniu seemed to have perpetual motion machines; they could do their assigned work perfectly every morning.

As for the afternoon?

Du Jianshan would either stroll back to the educated youth settlement to rest, or find a shady spot to read a tattered book, or he would pull out a golden cantaloupe from somewhere and sit on the edge of the field, slowly munching on it.
