Chapter 57: Repairing Engines at the Agricultural Machinery Station!

Aygul panicked immediately: "What should we do? Our company is waiting to use it, how are we going to explain this?"

Liu Dafu shrugged: "There's nothing I can do about it. It's been broken for several days, and no one can fix it. Why don't you come back another day?"

Du Jianshan remained calm, frowned and thought for a moment, then said, "Don't rush, take us there and see, maybe I can fix it."

A hint of suspicion flashed in Liu Dafu's eyes, but he didn't say anything more. He stood up and pointed to the backyard:

"It's in the back warehouse, you can go take a look. But let me tell you, this machine is badly broken, you'll have to be very skilled to fix it."

The two hurriedly followed Liu Dafu into the backyard, pushed open the warehouse door, and saw that it was filled with parts and miscellaneous items. In the corner, there was a dusty tractor that looked rather dilapidated.

Du Jianshan rolled up his sleeves, walked over to the machine, squatted down, and began to examine it carefully.

He lifted the cover, peeked inside, and reached out to touch the engine, his hands covered in a thick layer of black oil.

Liu Dafu stood to the side with his arms crossed, watching leisurely: "How about that? I didn't lie to you, did I? This engine is completely ruined. Even the station chief said it's hard to repair. I advise you not to waste your energy."

Du Jianshan ignored him and turned to Ayiguli, shouting, "Girl, go find me a few screwdrivers and a set of wrenches."

"Okay!"

Aygul responded and turned to run towards the warehouse entrance.

Liu Dafu still didn't believe he could fix it, so he simply leaned against the door, lit a cigarette, and watched while smoking.

Du Jianshan ignored him and started taking apart the machine with his tools.

After disassembling it for a long time, we found that the problem was with the engine block; the piston was stuck and couldn't move at all.

"The piston inside the cylinder burned out."

Du Jianshan looked up at Liu Dafu and asked, "Comrade, do you have any spare piston rings here?"

Liu Dafu, smoking a cigarette, said with a disdainful expression, "If we had the spare parts, we would have fixed it long ago. Why would you be messing around with it?"

Du Jianshan, however, was not giving up and turned to ask again, "Are there any usable old parts among the other scrapped machines? They'll do."

Liu Dafu paused, hesitated for a moment, and said, "There's a pile of scrapped old machine parts in the corner of the warehouse. Why don't you go and look for them yourself? You might get lucky and find some."

"Thank you, comrade."

Du Jianshan said no more, turned around and led Ayiguli to the outer courtyard.

An old man with a full head of white hair was sitting at the entrance of the warehouse in the backyard, blowing on a teacup to keep it warm.

Du Jianshan took out the approval slip given to him by the company commander and handed it over with both hands: "Grandpa, we are from the Third Company of Kanerjinggou. This is the approval slip. We are here to pick up the tiller and spare parts."

The old man squinted at Zhang Zi and snorted, "Having a cop is enough. Go in, but there's a lot of stuff, be careful not to trip over your feet."

Du Jianshan thanked them and pulled Ayiguli through the door.

The warehouse was cool and damp, with a mixed smell of grease and rust in the air.

Various scrapped parts were piled up crookedly in the corner, and a thick layer of dust covered the iron frame.

"Let's find the piston rings first," Du Jianshan said, bending down to move aside a pile of scrap metal.

Aygul also squatted down, peeling back the parts wrapped in oilcloth as she asked, "Brother Jianshan, are you sure you can find it in these?"

"Give it a try, and if you're lucky, even drinking cold water can cause problems."

The two split up, and the only sound in the warehouse could be the rummaging of things.

After more than ten minutes, Ayiguli excitedly exclaimed, "Doesn't this look like it?"

Du Jianshan leaned closer to take a look and found that it was indeed the piston ring of an old-fashioned tractor, old but not broken.

"Alright!" His eyes lit up as he carefully took it out. "Now find a piston cap and a few bolts."

The process of finding the parts lasted for almost half an hour, and the two of them were covered in dust before finally gathering all the usable components.

Back in the repair shop, Du Jianshan grabbed the assembled parts, rolled up his sleeves, and got to work.
