Chapter 61 Arguing on the Bed (2/2)

"Closer...closer..." Du Jianshan murmured to himself, his footsteps slow and steady on the fallen leaves, without making a sound.

Just as he raised his gun, a cough suddenly came from behind him!

"Cough—cough cough!"

It was Lanzi! She had been choked by the rain!

The lynx suddenly darted away, disappearing into the forest like a shadow!

"Damn it!" Du Jianshan roared in fury, turning his head and yelling, "What are you coughing for! I told you you're in the way!"

Lanzi was stunned for a moment, and her face turned pale instantly.

“If you really want to help, listen to me! This is the mountain, not a place for arguing on a heated brick bed!” Du Jianshan said each word clearly, his voice like pebbles hitting the ground.

Lanzi gritted her teeth and lowered her head, remaining silent.

After a moment of silence, Du Jianshan suddenly sighed, slung his gun back over his shoulder, and said, "Let's go, let's chase after it. If we don't find it tonight, this trip will have been for nothing."

The two continued walking towards Tiger Gully, the mud becoming increasingly slippery underfoot. The further they went, the colder it grew, and the wind, whipping up rain and mist, drifted through the valley like ghostly wails.

By the time they reached Tiger Gully, it was completely dark. The cave at the foot of the mountain was indeed still there, its entrance slippery, with a sloping rock blocking the wind. Du Jianshan threw down his backpack, took out a flint from his pocket, and lit a few dry pine branches. The flickering flames blurred the light between the two of them.

"Stand close to the cave wall," he instructed Lanzi. "You guard the fire tonight, and I'll guard the cave entrance."

"Aren't you going to sleep?" Lanzi asked.

“People used to hunt here. Lynxes don’t go far. It will definitely come back to scout tonight.”

Lanzi lowered her head and warmed herself by the fire, saying nothing more. All she could hear was the wind and rain outside, blowing into the cave in gusts, and the flames leaping wildly.

Night deepened, and the mountains gradually quieted down. Suddenly, Du Jianshan abruptly looked up, his ears twitching slightly.

Did you hear that?

"Huh?" Lanzi held her breath.

"There's a noise in the tree on the left." Du Jianshan pulled out his gun and crouched down against the stone wall. "It might be coming back."

Lanzi immediately turned the fire down and pressed herself against the cave.

About half an incense stick's time later, a gray shadow rushed out from the rain and landed almost silently!

"Good timing!" Du Jianshan gritted his teeth, raised his gun, and the gunshot rang out in the valley!

"Bang!"

The shadow flickered but didn't fall. It struggled to lunge into the woods, but its left hind leg buckled, clearly indicating it had been shot.

Before Du Jianshan could say anything more, he grabbed the torch and rushed out, shouting, "It's injured! We can't let it get far!"

Lanzi was startled and, disregarding her fear, grabbed her wood-chopping knife and chased after him out of the cave.

The woods were filled with the sounds of rain and mud, and the lynx was stained with blood, leaving obvious tracks. The two chased after it, finally cornering it under a large locust tree.

"Don't move!" Du Jianshan raised his gun, breathing heavily, and fired two shots in quick succession—

"Bang! Bang!"
