Chapter 271 It Worked
Lu Liangchen's figure disappeared at the end of the corridor, and the ward returned to silence.
Jiang Haitang looked at the closed door. Although her body was still weak and heavy, and the dizziness caused by the high fever had not completely subsided, the huge stone pressing on her heart seemed to have been taken away.
"Sister Haitang, drink some hot water." Kang Xiaoxia poured a cup of warm water and handed it to her carefully, her face full of concern. "Director Lu, go back and make arrangements. Don't worry about it anymore, or your condition will get worse."
Jiang Haitang took the cup of water. The warm touch made her feel a little more comfortable. She forced a smile and said, "Okay, I'll listen to you. Thank you for your hard work, Xiaoxia."
She did feel a strong sense of fatigue coming over her. She closed her eyes and fell asleep very quickly even though she still had many worries in her mind.
Lu Liangchen returned to the textile factory and the rain was getting heavier.
Lu Liangchen immediately called a meeting of the key members and presented Jiang Haitang's suggestions and opinions. After a brief discussion, everyone agreed that it was feasible.
"Organize a commando immediately!" Lu Liangchen decided. "Logistics team, prepare ginger soup and rain gear. We must complete the diversion channel project before dawn!"
The factory area is brightly lit and machines are roaring late at night.
Lu Liangchen was personally directing the operation on the scene, with rain dripping down the brim of his raincoat.
Some things, when they are actually implemented, actually happen faster than expected.
At three o'clock in the morning, the diversion channel was finally completed.
The workers cheered as they watched the rainwater flow through the newly dug ditches into the distant pond.
Lu Liangchen let out a long sigh, then felt dizzy. His cold seemed to have worsened.
"Director Lu, you look very bad. Let's go to the hospital." Xiao Zhang said worriedly.
Lu Liangchen waved his hand: "I'm fine. You take turns to rest and stay alert."
After saying that, he forced himself to walk towards the office, intending to call the hospital again, but the moment he pushed the door open, his legs went weak and he almost fell down.
"Director Lu!" Secretary Tan, who happened to be passing by, quickly stepped forward to support him. His touch was burning hot. "Oh my God, you have a high fever! You need to go to the hospital. You can't let your youth ruin your health."
Without further ado, Secretary Tan called the driver and forcibly sent Lu Liangchen to the hospital.
When Lu Liangchen woke up again, he found himself lying on a hospital bed with an IV on the back of his hand.
Turning around, he saw Jiang Haitang in the bed next to him looking at him with red eyes.
"You..." His voice was hoarse.
"Don't talk." Jiang Haitang handed over the warm water. "The doctor said you were overworked and had a high fever of 39.5 degrees. If you had come any later, it might have turned into pneumonia."
Lu Liangchen drank the water obediently, then asked, "Haitang, are you feeling better?"
Jiang Haitang smiled and glared at him: "Your condition is worse than mine right now, so think about yourself."
After saying this, Jiang Haitang couldn't help but laugh out loud: "We are now fellow patients, it's hard for husband and wife!"
Seeing that Jiang Haitang was in good condition, Lu Liangchen felt much more at ease.
"The factory called and said that this morning's heavy rain was completely diverted away by the diversion channel, and the factory building is safe. Even if the rain intensifies, it won't be a big problem."
Lu Liangchen smiled with relief, then suddenly started coughing violently.
Jiang Haitang quickly rang the bell to call the nurse while patting his back.
After checking, the nurse said, "There is a slight infection in the lungs. We need to continue to observe."
After the nurse left, the ward returned to silence.
The sound of raindrops hit the window. Lu Liangchen and Jiang Haitang looked at each other from a distance and smiled at the same time.
"We really are in the same boat." Lu Liangchen couldn't help laughing.
As soon as he finished speaking, he started coughing violently again.
Jiang Haitang motioned him to be quiet and said softly, "Go to sleep. I'll be here with you."
I don't know when, the sunlight broke through the clouds after the rain and poured into the ward through the gaps in the curtains.
Both exhausted men fell asleep.
Jiang Haitang was discharged from the hospital and returned to the factory the next evening.
Originally, the doctor said that she could stay for another day, but Jiang Haitang insisted on being discharged, so the doctor had no choice but to prescribe medicine for her.
He reminded me again and again that if I felt unwell, I should come back as soon as possible.
As the car drove into the factory, the sight before her cheered her up.
Although the factory roads were still a bit muddy, they had obviously been cleaned.
The most eye-catching thing is the periphery of the factory building. A newly dug diversion channel that surrounds most of the factory area has been formed. The channel wall has been reinforced with soil filled in woven bags. The water in the channel is gurgling, and is orderly diverting rainwater to the pond behind the factory.
Soon, the car arrived at the family compound. There were many people waiting for her to come back. Xiao Taozi emerged from the crowd and threw herself into Jiang Haitang's arms, "Mom is so awesome!"
Jiang Haitang picked up her daughter and kissed her.
Liu Hongmei asked, "Haitang, you were discharged from the hospital so early. Have you recovered?"
Jiang Haitang still had a slight cough. After two light coughs, she said, "The inflammation is under control, and the fever has completely subsided. The doctor said I just need to rest. I thought there was nothing much to do in the hospital, so I came back."
"The doctor also told you to get enough rest after you go back and not to overwork. Your body has been overdrawn and needs time to recuperate." Kang Xiaoxia filled in the part that Jiang Haitang had overlooked.
Jiang Haitang didn't want to say these things originally, but she didn't expect Kang Xiaoxia to say them all. She immediately stopped Kang Xiaoxia, but Kang Xiaoxia ignored her and complained directly to Liu Hongmei.
"The doctor said that I should stay in the hospital for two more days, but Sister Haitang disagreed and insisted on being discharged."
Hearing Kang Xiaoxia say this, Liu Hongmei immediately said, "Then go lie down on the bed quickly. Don't work too hard. We will prepare meals for you these few days, and let Chef Zhang make you nutritious meals."
"Yes, Mr. Jiang, you must have a good rest!"
"Mr. Jiang, thanks so much for your idea! This canal will be very useful!"
"I've been delivering food to Mr. Jiang on my way these past few days..."
Greetings and thanks came one after another, full of sincere enthusiasm.
Zhao Kai happened to come over and saw Jiang Haitang. He said to her, "Sister-in-law, I know you're worried about the factory. The diversion channel is very effective and the flooding is basically under control. The embankment at the Hongqi Brigade is stable, and the rain upstream has also weakened. The flood peak has passed smoothly. Except for you and Director Lu, everyone else in our factory is fine."
When everyone heard what Zhao Kai said, they couldn't help but almost laughed out loud.
Jiang Haitang couldn't help laughing either.
However, this time only the textile factory was fortunately less affected, but other places in the city were actually severely affected.
Not only in the city, this heavy rain has covered a wide area, and several surrounding communes have been severely affected, which are the ones who will need help later.
"Director Zhao, you don't look very relaxed. Are there other problems in the factory?" Jiang Haitang sensitively sensed the problem.
"We received an urgent disaster relief order, requiring our factory to operate at full capacity and prioritize the production of a batch of relief supplies, primarily quilts and tent fabrics! Time is tight and the task is heavy, as it concerns the warmth and resettlement of the affected people."
When Jiang Haitang heard this, he immediately understood the focus of his current work.
Disaster relief is like putting out a fire, and ensuring the basic living needs of the affected people is the top priority.
As for the factory’s production plan, at this time, we can only blame it for giving way to disaster relief.
"Liangchen is in the hospital, so the factory can only rely on you. I may not be able to do the physical work, but I can coordinate the production plan, allocate raw materials, and monitor quality to ensure that this batch of disaster relief supplies is produced at the fastest speed and with the best quality!"
Just as Zhao Kai was about to speak to dissuade him, Jiang Haitang spoke first, her tone gentle but unquestionable: "Look, my fever is gone, and I haven't coughed anymore, but my strength hasn't fully recovered yet. I promise I won't do any heavy or strenuous work. Let me contribute to the disaster relief efforts. Seeing everyone busy, I can't sit still at home."
Her eyes were full of earnestness and an unyielding sense of responsibility.
"Haitang, you should take a rest. Look at your face, it's so pale." Liu Hongmei immediately objected.
But in the end, no one could persuade Jiang Haitang, and they still let her participate a little. However, the tasks assigned to her were easy and not too tiring.
Liu Hongmei said to Jiang Haitang seriously, "Haitang, although you can participate in the work, you must promise me that you will eat and rest on time, and stop immediately if you feel tired! I will let Xiaoxia keep an eye on you."
"I promise!" Jiang Haitang promised solemnly, with the first motivated smile on his face after recovering from a serious illness.
So, Jiang Haitang reappeared at her job at the textile factory.
She kept her promise and did not carry heavy bales of cotton yarn or stand next to the roaring machines for a long time.
However, her existence is like a stabilizing force, making the already efficient production of disaster relief supplies even more organized.
At night, when the last batch of packaged quilts were loaded onto trucks bound for the disaster area, the entire factory was brightly lit.
Jiang Haitang stood beside Lu Liangchen, watching the truck slowly drive out of the factory gate and disappear into the night.
The evening breeze blew her hair. Although her body was still a little weak, a warm feeling of peace and satisfaction filled her heart.
After Lu Liangchen was discharged from the hospital, he felt very distressed when he learned that Jiang Haitang had returned to work right after being discharged.
"Are you tired?" Lu Liangchen asked in a low voice, gently holding her slightly cold hand.
Jiang Haitang shook her head.
"I'm not tired. Compared to the villagers who are soaking in water, our hard work is nothing. Being able to help them makes me feel at ease. In the face of a major disaster, there is really too little we can do!"
Her voice was not loud, but it revealed the quiet strength that came from having experienced hardships and illness.
