Xu Zijiang rode his bicycle over from a distance. Before he even got there, everyone started to cheer and shout that they should make way for the groom.
Yu Jiu, with a reserved demeanor, quickly returned to her bed and sat down, waiting for Xu Zi to come in. In this educated youth settlement, there was no need to specifically look for anyone; everyone here was a natural gatekeeper.
Yu Caihong and Zhang Yan quickly closed the door to their room, and then the rest of the group closed the gate to the educated youth settlement. Everyone watched Xu Zijiang through the fence as he rode his bicycle at breakneck speed. Gouzi and Lin Zheng didn't walk; they ran over because Xu Zijiang was riding his bicycle too fast.
The two wheels whirred and spun, and everyone had to run to keep up. Along the way, the dog couldn't help but tease him.
"The captain was in such a hurry to get married that he just charged ahead! We almost couldn't keep up."
"Hurry up, all of you, don't dawdle, or you'll delay my wedding."
Xu Zijiang was not ashamed, but rather proud. The bicycle pedals almost sparked from him, and with a whoosh, Xu Zijiang's bicycle came to a stop sideways at the gate of the educated youth settlement.
"The wedding is here! Open the door right now, I need to come in and get my wife. My little wife, I've come to take you!"
Xu Zijiang raised his voice, his loud, cheerful voice piercing Yu Jiu's ears. It burned her ears so much they turned red. She couldn't help but pinch her ear tips, and still managed to stand up and peek.
"Hey, what are you doing? Didn't I say you were just going to sit on the bed and not move? Leave the rest to us. Where are you going now? Where's your composure?"
Yu Caihong winked at Yu Jiu.
"I'm just looking around and listening."
Yu Jiu, feeling embarrassed, feigned shyness. She wanted to see how everyone was making things difficult for Xu Zijiang, and how Xu Zijiang managed to break through their group, since there were now more than 20 people crammed into the courtyard of the educated youth settlement. More than a dozen of them were educated youth guarding the gate, both male and female.
Of course, Yu Jiu had instructed them beforehand that a token gesture would suffice, and they shouldn't make things too difficult for Xu Zijiang. However, Yu Jiu wasn't too worried about it. Xu Zijiang wasn't just anyone; he was the captain, and probably no one would dare to make things too difficult for him.
"Captain, there's no rush to pick up your wife. Let's follow the rules. You can't just kick the door open. We have to open it for you willingly."
Zhao En couldn't resist being the first to step forward, ready to make things difficult for Xu Zijiang. Although Yu Jiu was about to marry him and was no longer a match for him, Zhao En was still very indignant, especially after seeing the bride's attire. Such a beautiful and lovely girl, how could she be paired with a big shot like Xu Zijiang!
A scholar and a beautiful woman—isn't that the standard pairing? Zhao En was indignant. He felt he was only one step behind Xu Zijiang, but he'd been beaten to it for life. He had to settle this score today, or he'd never forget Yu Jiu. How could he ever like another woman again? How could he ever get married?
Zhao En had plenty of excuses; his intention today was simply to make things difficult for Xu Zijiang. Because his actions were so obvious, the crowd implicitly regarded him as their leader and followed his orders.
"Captain, I won't make things difficult for you. Asking you to memorize poems or write verses would be too much for you. How about you do two hundred push-ups first?"
He said smugly, as if to say, "I've already gone easy on you."
Xu Zi raised his handsome eyebrows and smiled dismissively.
"Just two hundred. If I wasn't worried about sweating and affecting my wedding procession, I could give you a thousand or so without any problem."
He parked his bicycle, rolled up his sleeves, and deftly bent down, placing his hands on the ground as he began to move up and down. He put all his weight on his arms, which bore a heavy load, causing the veins to bulge and his already strong muscles to bulge even more, making him look handsome and wild.
His movements, whether getting up or down, were swift and efficient. He pursed his lips, his eyes sharp, and silently counted the number of push-ups he had done in his mind: one, two, three, four, five, six, seven.
After counting for a while, the audience couldn't help but count along with him, especially Gouzi, who wanted to help establish his captain's prestige. He wanted Yu Jiu, who was still inside, to know how much effort their captain had put in to marry her, and how their captain had so impressively overcome all those difficulties. So he raised his voice and shouted at the top of his lungs.
"Eighty-one, eighty-two, eighty-three, eighty-four! Wow, the captain is amazing! He hasn't even broken a sweat yet! His form is just as perfect. My god, he's incredible. If it were me, I couldn't do even two of them!"
The dog's boasting reached Yu Jiu's ears. She couldn't see anything through the crack in the door; the crack was too small, and there were a bunch of people blocking the way outside. So the people inside didn't know what was happening outside or how Xu Zi would be put in a difficult position.
But when Gouzi did that, Yu Jiu and the others understood. Oh, so he was doing push-ups, and he was going to do so many of them!
Zhang Yan wasn't shy, and besides, it wasn't her wedding day, so she casually stepped onto the stool and opened a small crack in the window above, which gave her a clear view of Xu Zi doing push-ups.
Xu Zi did push-ups extremely fast. He didn't need to rest at all. He went up and down quickly and accurately, and his strong body didn't seem to be a burden on his arms at all.
Because of the vigorous up-and-down movements, coupled with a slight breeze, a small part of Xu Zijiang's abdomen was exposed. You could see his abs—the eight-pack muscles that Yu Jiu liked—which were particularly prominent when taut. Each muscle looked strong and muscular, exuding masculinity; at first glance, he was clearly a man bursting with hormones.
Zhang Yan couldn't help but shake her head. If this move were used on Yu Jiu, she couldn't even imagine how much Yu Jiu would have to endure; it was too terrifying.
Xu Zijiang really showed off his skills today. He did push-ups with both hands, which was met with cheers from the audience. Not content with that, he also did a one-handed push-up. When he got to 190, he put his right hand behind his back, made a fist, and supported his body with only his left hand. Then he continued to do push-ups.
"191, 192, 193, 194, oh my god, for the last ten, the captain is going to do one-handed push-ups! That's amazing, amazing! After doing 190 push-ups in one go, he still has the strength to do one-handed push-ups. Look at the captain's arm muscles, they're so strong, so cool, oh my god!"
The people present weren't just female educated youth, female comrades, and women; even the men couldn't withstand it. The exclamations were louder than the girls'; they were so impressed. No wonder Xu Zijiang was the team leader; no wonder he could take on ten men at once! Look at his strength, his resilience, his explosive power—my God, this is the strength every man dreams of!
As Xu Zi listened to everyone count down 198, 199, 200, it was over. He used one hand to forcefully throw his body upwards, then used his feet to push off the ground and stand up. This move was even cooler than doing a one-handed push-up!
"Wow, awesome! Captain is amazing!"
Cheers and applause erupted one after another. Xu Zi had successfully captured the hearts of everyone present. Even Zhao En couldn't help but admire him. The captain was simply like a monster. His stamina, core strength, and arm muscle support were terrifying. Even ten of him couldn't do what the captain was doing.
Is it okay now?
Xu Zi asked calmly, his breathing only erratic for a moment. He slowly brushed the sand off his palms, then tidied his clothes and hair, making sure he looked handsome when he went to pick up his wife.
