Chapter 173 Who's that stupid?

······

Regardless, it's good that Gouzi has this intention. While Yu Jiu was relieved for Xu Zi, she also became worried for Gouzi, and she quickly asked.

"That dog lost so much blood, what did the vet say? Is it anything serious?"

After all, it was a blow to the head, and the head is so fragile; it could easily lead to a vegetative state.

"It's okay, the injury isn't that serious. It hit his forehead, but there was a lot of blood loss, so it looks a bit scary. But the doctor said that with more rest and blood replenishment, he'll be fine. However, since he lost a lot of blood, he's a bit dizzy and is still under observation at the hospital."

"If you want to see them, go to the hospital. I'm a bit busy here, so I won't take you there. Be careful and don't bump into anything. Take your time."

Zhou Chunrong carefully gave her instructions. He and his wife had been the witnesses at Xu Zijiang and Yu Jiu's wedding, and had even played the role of Xu Zijiang's parents, so of course he had to take extra care of Yu Jiu. Moreover, Yu Jiu was pregnant, and Xu Zijiang had told him today. This was supposed to be a joyous occasion, and he didn't want Yu Jiu to be anxious about it or get hurt.

The baby is not even three months old yet, so he is very fragile.

"Okay, I'll be going now."

Yu Jiu rode her bicycle back to the hospital and found the dog lying in bed on the second floor. The dog's face was pale, its head was wrapped in gauze, and it was receiving an IV drip. It looked miserable.

However, after looking around the ward, she saw other patients and their families, but she didn't see Xu Zijiang. Yu Jiu walked to Gouzi's bedside and called out softly.

"Dog?"

Gouzi wasn't asleep; he had just closed his eyes to rest. When he heard someone call him, he opened his eyes and saw Yu Jiu's worried eyes. Gouzi felt incredibly wronged, and tears streamed down his face.

"Yu Zhiqing, sob sob sob sob."

"Look what these bastards did to me! I did all this for the captain! You can't say I was making things worse!"

Although Gouzi now realizes that what he did was a bit unnecessary, his intentions were good. How could he have known the captain could dodge? He didn't know the rock would hit him on the head! If he had known, he wouldn't have rushed in; it hurt so much! And he lost so much blood—how much good food would he need to eat to recover? His heart was breaking!

"I didn't say you were causing trouble. I know you meant well and were worried about Xu Zijiang. Don't worry, if the person who hit you doesn't want to pay for your medical expenses, we'll cover them and even buy you supplements to help you recover. First, tell me where Xu Zijiang went?"

Yu Jiu quickly comforted him, then turned to ask about Xu Zijiang. Although the secretary said that Xu Zijiang was not injured, Yu Jiu had not seen it with her own eyes, and she was still worried.

The dog wiped away its tears and sobbed.

"The captain went to buy me something to eat and should be back soon. He's been out for a while now. Yu Zhiqing, I knew you were the best person. The captain was about to scold me to death, but I was just worried about him, sob sob."

As Gouzi spoke, he started crying again, clearly feeling extremely upset. He had only meant well, and not only did he get hurt, but he was also scolded; anyone would feel bad in that situation. Yu Jiu understood his feelings and comforted him for a while before Xu Zijiang returned with his things.

"Wife? What are you doing here?"

Xu Zijiang was somewhat surprised to see Yu Jiu at the hospital.

"Are you feeling unwell? Why did you come to the hospital?"

Xu Zi rushed up nervously.

"No, I came to see the dog. I felt really irritable today, like something was going to happen, so I went to look for you near the road construction site. I didn't expect something to actually happen. I had to ask around several places before I finally found my way here."

Are you alright? Let me check if you're hurt.

Yu Jiu stood up, held Xu Zijiang's shoulder, and looked him over for a long time. Seeing that he had no obvious wounds and his clothes were not torn, she finally felt relieved.

The two of them were so worried about each other that they almost forgot about the dog. The dog, not wanting to be left out, waved his hand, trying to get their attention.

"Captain, Yu Zhiqing, there's someone else here. Can you look at me? Captain, where's my food? I'm so hungry! I want to eat something!"

The dog clutched his empty stomach. He had lost so much blood, worked in the morning, and hadn't eaten lunch. How could he not be hungry? He felt dizzy, probably from hunger.

"Hungry! Why didn't you say so earlier? I boiled some eggs and brought some sugar water, but I forgot to bring them in my rush to come up. They're still in the bicycle basket. I'll go down and get them now."

Yu Jiu patted her head, finally remembering the food. Concern clouded her judgment, and she rushed over, forgetting all about the things in the basket.

“I bought him food, let him eat first. I’ll go down and bring the things up later. Have you had lunch yet? You’ve been to so many places. Look, your face is all red from the sun. Are you very tired? I’ll go and bring up the sugar water so you can have a few sips.”

Xu Zijiang checked Yu Jiu's forehead temperature, gave the food to Gouzi, and went downstairs to get his things. Of course, Xu Zijiang recognized their family's bicycle.

Fortunately, Yu Jiu was worried that the sun would be too strong along the way, making the sugar water too hot and the eggs too hard to eat, so she covered the bicycle basket with a straw lid when she left. As a result, no one noticed that there were things inside, and even though the bicycle had been parked there for a while, the things in the basket had not been taken away.

Xu Zijiang poured some sugar water for Gouzi, and gave the rest to Yu Jiu. Yu Jiu was indeed a bit thirsty, and after drinking a few sips, she suppressed her thirst. Then she gave Xu Zijiang some to drink.

"Have you eaten yet? I bet you haven't. Hurry up and eat!"

Yu Jiu took out the remaining portion of rice and urged Xu Zijiang to eat it quickly.

Xu Zijiang didn't stand on ceremony with her. He tilted his head back and drank the rest of the sugar water in one gulp before picking up his lunchbox and eating his rice. After all that fuss all morning, he was indeed hungry.

Yu Jiu was about to be late for work, and if she didn't leave soon, she would be late again. She patted Xu Zijiang to signal him to leave.

"I'm going to work now. I'll talk to you when I get back tonight. Please don't scold the dog. He meant well."

"He meant well but messed things up. Luckily, he was hit by the small rock. If he had been hit by the big rock, he would be dead today. Besides, do you even know how a dog's brain works?"

Even if he was worried I wouldn't be able to dodge him, he could have at least pulled me back or called out to me. Instead, he lunged at me, standing behind me to try and block the rock. Was he trying to trade his life for mine? With so many better options, he chose the stupidest one. I don't even know what to say to him.

It would have been better if he hadn't mentioned it, because bringing it up made Xu Zijiang even angrier. Who's that stupid? If a rock comes at you, you just use your own body to block it, aren't you afraid of being smashed into a bloody pulp?
