Chapter 21 This is not the answer I wanted to hear

Chen Yuan's chin was knocked askew, and his saliva sprayed far away.

"Ah! I'm taking this..."

A sharp pain shot through him, and not only did saliva flow, but tears also streamed down Chen Yuan's face. He clutched his crooked jaw, unable to speak clearly. He writhed on the ground like a maggot, calling out for help to Li Nannan. In an instant, he lost the strength to attack Yu Jiu; this blow was arguably more painful than a blow to the head.

"Li, a donkey-wielding educated youth..."

Li Nannan watched from the courtyard, her gloating smile vanishing instantly. He collapsed like that? Did he even touch a hair on Yu Jiu's head? He was just hit on the chin, get up! Is he really that useless?!

She waited for a full minute, but Chen Yuan still didn't get up, and Li Nannan's face turned extremely ugly.

Yu Jiu watched Chen Yuan warily from the kitchen, not moving, also on guard against a sudden attack. A minute later, once she was sure he was truly incapacitated, things would be easier. She hadn't realized that what people said about the chin being a vulnerable spot, where a hit there hurts more than anywhere else, was true.

She silently made a mental note of it, then picked up a dry, thin twig, held it in her hand, and gracefully walked towards Li Nannan.

Yu Caihong was initially startled by Chen Yuan's outburst, but later she was impressed by Yu Jiu's quick thinking and reckless fighting style. She crouched in the corner, trembling, her admiring gaze following Yu Jiu's every move.

Wait, is Xiao Jiu going to hit someone again?

Yu Caihong hesitated for a moment, then walked around the lump of fat lying on the ground and followed Yu Jiu out.

Needless to say, Li Nannan knew that Yu Jiu was going to settle scores with her. She assessed her own strength and felt that she had no chance of getting anything good out of this woman, so she turned around and ran away, abandoning Chen Yuan.

"You educated youth, are you abandoning me?"

Chen Yuan watched Li Nannan's departing figure with a heavy heart, his eyes filled with infatuation, pain, and madness.

He must have been too useless for Li Zhiqing to leave. Yes, that madwoman Yu Jiu was so strong and cunning, and Li Zhiqing couldn't beat her, so she definitely had to go and get reinforcements to save him. He knew it; only a beautiful and kind-hearted girl like Li Zhiqing would like him!

The first step to being a sycophant: brainwash yourself into being loyal to your master. Perfect.

"Didn't you hear your dog barking? Why are you running so fast? Li Nannan, I've put up with you for a long time. I've tolerated your show-off tendencies and your outbursts, but I just didn't want to deal with you. Do you think you can take advantage of me just because I gave you a little leeway? Now you're even instigating Chen Yuan to beat me up. Do you think I'll still tolerate you?"

"Things shouldn't happen more than three times, remember that."

Just as Li Nannan ran to the gate of the courtyard, Yu Jiu, as agile as a rabbit, darted to the gate and grabbed Li Nannan's clothes, pulling her back.

With a tearing sound, Li Nannan's clothes were ripped apart.

Yu Jiu expressionlessly threw away the rag in his hand, grabbed her arm with one hand, and swung the tree branch heavily with the other, using it as a whip to lash her back.

"Ah! Yu Jiu, are you crazy? How dare you hit me! Do you know who your parents are?! You do, ah!"

Li Nannan was terrified. She suddenly closed her eyes and instinctively brought up her parents, her face filled with panic and fear.

Yu Jiu's hand didn't pause for a moment, and she slapped her a few more times. The tree branch made a sound like firecrackers hitting her clothes.

"What do I care who your parents are? What, you want another mother? No way, I'm afraid your dad will be furious."

Yu Jiu said sarcastically, she was determined to deal with Li Nannan properly today, so that she wouldn't keep bothering people like a fly. She pressed Li Nannan against the door with her left hand, pinning her head down and bracing her body with her left foot, trapping her against the door and making her unable to move. Then the thin branch swung up again.

“Li Nannan, being stubborn won’t do you any good. Today I want to hear your apology and get your promise, otherwise I won’t let go of you. I can break my sister’s and brother’s hands, let alone yours.”

She spoke slowly and deliberately, but her hands showed no mercy. As the thin twig lashed out, Li Nannan felt a sharp, itchy, and prickly pain in her back, like being pricked by needles. Seeing Yu Jiu so out of her mind, she completely gave up, not daring to resist at all. She could only hug the door and wail, her face covered in tears and snot.

That handsome and dashing face was a terrible sight.

"It hurts so much! You hit me, waaaaaah!"

"I want my dad, I want my mom, I want to go home, waaaaah! I don't want to stay here anymore, everyone here is crazy, I want to go home! Ah!"

"This is not the answer I want to hear. I suggest you repeat yourself."

"Smack."

Yu Jiu coldly curled her lips and swung the branch again, leaving no part of Li Nannan unscathed—her back, thighs, calves—she was like a queen wielding a small whip.

Her long eyelashes drooped down, casting a small shadow. Her face looked eerie under this expression. Yu Caihong was frightened and froze to the side, not daring to speak. Even the sunlight couldn't dispel her chill, and goosebumps rose all over her arms.

"Ah!!! I won't do it again, I won't do it again, okay? I'm sorry, please let me go. I shouldn't have let Chen Yuan hit you. Ah! Didn't I apologize? Why are you still hitting me? I want to go home, waaaaah."

In an instant, Li Nannan's cries echoed through the sky, more horrific than the sound of a pig being slaughtered.

By this time, everyone had finished work and was returning one after another. When they heard such a shrill scream near the educated youth settlement, they thought something had happened and came over to see what was going on.

"Oh? You apologize and I have to forgive you? Then I'll apologize too. I'm sorry, it hurt when I hit you, didn't it? I'm sorry, but I still want to hit you. You'll definitely forgive me, right? Li Zhiqing?"

Yu Jiu twitched the corners of her mouth, her eyes cold. She swung her little branch again, having lost count of how many times she had whipped Li Nannan. All that was known was that her clothes were torn, revealing faint red and swollen marks.

Yu Jiu only let go of her when the branch broke.

"It hurts so much! I'm going to die! Waaaaah! Yu Jiu, I'm not going to let you get away with this! You just wait!"

Li Nannan slid to the ground, clutching her tattered body, crying uncontrollably. Her mouth was agape as she wailed, completely oblivious to her appearance. As soon as Yu Jiu released her, she uttered another harsh threat.

Yu Jiu merely raised her hand, and she screamed a few times in fright, crawling out of the gate of the educated youth settlement, trying to get as far away from Yu Jiu as possible. Her scalp was disheveled, her face was covered in snot and tears, her clothes were torn, and she was crawling around on the ground covered in mud, looking like a patient who had just come out of a mental hospital.

Those who had come to see what was going on were stunned.

"Who...is this?"

No one dared to say they were the same person anymore.

"Oh."

Ignoring the questions from the onlookers, Yu Jiu simply placed her hand on her forehead, brushed her hair back, tucked her stray sideburns behind her ear, and said calmly from her elevated position.

"I'm waiting, but remember this, Li Nannan: if you cause me trouble again, I'll consider it as you courting death. If you're not afraid of death, then come on."
