Yu Jiu's stomach pain wasn't too severe and was bearable, so the three of them arrived at the hospital without much haste.
Upon arriving at the hospital, as expected, Yu Jiu was showing signs of labor, but given her condition, she wouldn't be giving birth so quickly. She would probably have to wait a few more hours until her cervix was fully dilated.

Back in the ward, Xu Zijiang and An'an had been staying by Yu Jiu's bedside. It was almost noon now. From the time she was brought to the hospital with abdominal pain to the birth of the baby, almost 12 hours had passed. It was quite a long and tiring process.
"Why is Daddy and my brother so ugly? They don't look like us at all."
Knowing that her mother was alright, An'an stopped worrying about Yu Jiu. She curiously leaned closer to her younger brother to observe him closely, but then her face showed disgust. Her brother was all red and wrinkled, and looked awful.

"You're a little uglier than when you were born. You weren't this red or wrinkled when you were born, but all babies look pretty much the same when they're first born. They'll change after a few days."
"Really? Dad, you're not lying to me."
"Really, why would Dad lie to you?"
Xu Zi promised An An that if her little brother was still this ugly when he grew up, he would get her a handsome little brother instead. An An happily agreed.
Meanwhile, Zhang Yan went to Yu Jiu's house and found the door locked and the tractor gone. She guessed that Yu Jiu had probably gone to the hospital. She figured she'd already given birth, so she immediately went home, made some soup and cooked some rice, and took it to the hospital. Xu Zijiang was just about to ask someone to go back to Beitang team to tell Zhang Yan and the others to bring lunch over, but he couldn't leave right now.
Before I could even send a message, Zhang Yan arrived with her things.
"I guessed Yu Jiu might be about to give birth. How is Yu Jiu doing? Is it a boy or a girl?"

This was something they had discussed beforehand, and just like last time when they took care of An'an, they would have Gouzi's mother take over from Xu Zijiang. While Xu Zijiang went home to cook and take a bath, Gouzi's mother would stay at the hospital to look after Yu Jiu and the child.
Children have been lost in hospitals before, though not often. Therefore, Xu Zijiang was very vigilant and insisted that a sober adult must watch over the child and Yu Jiu every step of the way, otherwise he wouldn't feel at ease.
"I know, I'll tell my mother when I get back."
"You guys eat first. When did you come to the hospital? This is chicken soup I made for Yu Jiu. The other dishes are pretty simple."
Zhang Yan opened the lunchbox and told them to eat first.
"It happened in the middle of the night. My mom suddenly had a stomachache in the middle of the night. I was still sleeping when my dad woke me up and brought us to the hospital."
An'an whispered that this was the first time she had ever witnessed such a terrifying scene, and she was quite scared. Fortunately, her father had stayed with her and her mother the whole time. Now she wasn't scared anymore and could even whisper to Zhang Yan about what happened last night, saying that she was afraid of waking Yu Jiu if she spoke loudly.
After An'an and Xu Zi finished eating, Zhang Yan packed up the lunchbox and prepared to take An'an home. Her child was still young, and she needed to go home to breastfeed. So she took An'an home, and An'an kept looking back as she went.
"Dad, I'll come see Mom and my brother again tomorrow."
"Okay, An'an, be a good girl and stay home for classes. Come over after school in the afternoon. Dad will stay at the hospital with Mom and your little brother for a few days and then we'll go home. Be good."

When Zhang Yan got home, she told her mother-in-law that Yu Jiu had given birth, and Gouzi's mother immediately packed her things to come to the hospital.
