Chapter 354 Locust Swarm

I thought it would just be her parents coming, but a whole bunch of people showed up. There were her parents, two brothers, a sister, and their wives, husbands, and children.

There were 13 people in total. Zhang Yan was stunned when she saw them at the train station and couldn't speak for a long time.

"Mom and Dad, why are there so many people here?"

"Oh, come see you! We haven't seen each other for so many years. Are you not happy to see us? This must be my son-in-law. He's incredibly handsome!"

Zhang Yan's parents immediately grabbed the dog's paws and showered it with praise. Zhang Yan's older brother, second brother, and older sister did the same, praising the dog to everyone.

The dog maintained a polite smile throughout.

"I didn't realize that so many of you came, Mom and Dad. There might not be enough room at home."

They also drove a car. They originally thought there would only be two people, but now that so many people have come, these cars can't hold them all. If they had known, they would have rented a bus.

"It's okay, it's okay, we'll just stay at home and sleep on the floor. It's hot anyway, we won't get cold."

Zhang Yan remained silent with a dark expression. Since she didn't speak, Gouzi couldn't make a decision and just kept watching her. Only then did Zhang Yan's older brother realize that he needed to please his sister, not his brother-in-law. He quickly turned around and took Zhang Yan's hand.

“Xiao Yan, it’s been so many years since we last met. Why don’t you even call me your older brother? I’ve missed you so much! You haven’t come home to visit all these years, so we came to see you. Mom and Dad are getting old, and if we don’t see you again, we’re afraid we’ll never see you again.”

He played the family card and burst into tears.

Zhang Yan felt a little guilty after hearing what he said. Her expression softened, and she sighed before speaking.

"Then let's stay at home and sleep on the floor. If so many people stay in a hotel, we'll need to book many rooms."

Moreover, it's really a waste that they don't know how many days they'll stay. Zhang Yan has money, but she's unwilling to pay for it. She sends money back home every year, and she's already fulfilled her filial duties. Besides, she can be filial to her parents, but she won't serve other people who bring their families.

So Gouzi made a phone call to coordinate and rented a bus. He then had the driver take them to the courtyard house.

Since they usually live in small villas, it's best to bring them to this courtyard house to keep them away from the outside world.

Actually, people nowadays don't think courtyard houses are that great; they prefer apartment buildings and villas. In their eyes, courtyard houses are no different from single-story houses, except that they are larger. When Zhang Yan's parents arrived at the courtyard house, their disappointment was palpable.

Do you usually live here?

"right."

Zhang Yan nodded without changing her expression. Gouzi's parents, Gou Dan, and Gou Zaizi were also inside, and their family alone already occupied four rooms. There were only five rooms in total, so Zhang Yan reluctantly let Gou Dan and Gou Zaizi stay together, giving up Gou Zaizi's room, which left two empty rooms for them.

"You two discuss it yourselves and see who sleeps on the floor and who sleeps on the bed. Mom and Dad sleep in one bed, and there's only one bed left. Otherwise, you can squeeze in."

"Okay, let's squeeze in."

They were all smiles and didn't seem to mind. As soon as they put down their luggage, they asked how they wanted to eat.

"With so many people, they haven't even prepared enough food," Gouzi quickly said.

"I'll go to the restaurant now and buy more food; we don't have enough to eat at home."

"Alright, then we'll have to trouble you, son-in-law. We've come all this way and we're really hungry. Let's have a meal and rest first. Tomorrow, take us to the capital. We want to go to Tiananmen Square and climb the Great Wall. Remember to take lots of pictures of us."

They had everything planned out; they'd make arrangements for Zhang Yan and Gouzi as soon as they arrived. Since they were in the capital, wanting to visit some famous tourist attractions wasn't an unreasonable request, and Zhang Yan and Gouzi naturally agreed. So, for the first week, Zhang Yan and Gouzi spent their time there eating, drinking, and sightseeing.

Gou Dan and Gou Zai Zi had to go to school, and Zhang Yan didn't want the two children to get involved, so she had Gou Zi's parents pick up and drop off the two children every day, leaving the hospitality to him and Gou Zi.

However, they had already been playing for a week, and these people showed no sign of wanting to go back; on the contrary, they were having more and more fun. Every day they discussed where to go, what to eat, and what to buy, and Zhang Yan was starting to get fed up.

"When are you going back? You've had your fun here, and we have to go to work now. We can't stay with you."

She subtly asked them to leave, since they had all come and she had even paid for their bottled water. Like a swarm of locusts, the 13 people cost them over a thousand yuan a day, and in seven days, they had spent nearly ten thousand yuan. Moreover, entertaining them was exhausting, both mentally and physically, so she wanted to send them away as soon as possible.

“We’ve only been here a few days, and we haven’t had enough fun yet. Why go back so early? If you’re busy, then you can go to work. We can go have fun on our own. We know the way pretty well, and if we need help, we can just ask someone.”

Since they've all said so, Zhang Yan and Gouzi don't seem to have any reason to object, so fine. Let them go have fun on their own and pay for it themselves. Once they're spending their own money, they'll know how to be stingy and will leave soon.

So the next day, Zhang Yan and Gouzi went to work without hesitation, leaving the others to leave before they suddenly remembered.

"Did you take the money? Where did Xiaoyan and Gouzi put the money? I can't see it."

"I didn't see it either. It wasn't in the living room. Did you see it?"

"I didn't see it either."

So they thought Zhang Yan and Gouzi would leave them money to play with after they went to work? No wonder they agreed so readily yesterday. Now Gouzi and Zhang Yan have already gone to work.

Dog's parents also took their two children out to hide, ostensibly to attend school, but in reality, it was summer vacation and the two children were only attending extracurricular classes for two hours each day. The rest of the time they spent at the small villa, and they only came here in the evening to deal with these people.

"Maybe it's in their room? Let's go look for it."

These people actually pushed open Zhang Yan and Gouzi's door and searched it carefully. They didn't find any money. Then they went to Gouzi's parents' room and even Gou Dan's room. They searched every room carefully and found that not only was there no money, but there was also nothing of value in the house. It was just an empty house!

Since they couldn't find any money, they naturally refused to go out. Nobody wanted to pay, after all, there were 13 people, and even taking the bus would cost several tens of yuan. So they simply decided not to go out and wait for Zhang Yan and Gouzi to return.

Even if they didn't go out, they still had to eat. They had pots and pans at home, but not much food. They did have rice, so they had to cook for themselves. They pitifully stir-fried two dishes and ate them with rice. That was how they managed to get through lunch.

When Zhang Yan and Gouzi returned, these people almost fainted from hunger.

"Xiao Yan, you're finally back! Hurry, hurry, go to the restaurant and buy some food, we're starving!"
