He grew angrier the more he thought about it. Turning around, he saw Lin Wan walking slowly behind him, and his anger exploded! "Can't you walk faster! What are you dawdling for!" Li Bing yelled. Lin Wan was startled by the sudden shout. She looked up, her eyes filled with grievance and anger. "Why are you taking it out on me! I didn't do anything wrong!" Lin Wan retorted. The two stood there, locked in a tense standoff, their argument growing louder and louder.
Passersby stopped to watch their argument, and Li Bing, feeling utterly humiliated, glared at Lin Wan and ran away! Lin Wan watched Li Bing's departing figure, tears welling in her eyes. She had never imagined that the man who once vowed to love her forever would treat her like this. How had her life become like this! So many people had envied her for marrying so well!
"It's all Lin Fei's fault for being useless, making her unable to hold her head up in her husband's family. It's also my fault for not helping her and for always eating and drinking at her place!" Lin Wan thought bitterly, her eyes filled with resentment replaced by hatred.
She hurried back, and before she even entered the house, she heard Li's mother shouting, "You old witch who only takes and never gives! All you know is to take things from me, you don't even give my son any food!" She then pointed at Li Bing and said, "You're useless too, taking so much stuff. Don't you know to bring it back when she doesn't cook? I told you not to marry her, but you insisted, and look what you've brought back!"
Mr. Li, unable to bear it any longer, said, "Alright, the child hasn't eaten lunch yet, go and cook!" Lin Wan pushed open the door and went in. When Mrs. Li saw Lin Wan return, she became even angrier and said, "Is your Lin family about to run out of rice? Bringing so much stuff and not even cooking!" Lin Wan suppressed her anger and said coldly, "Mom, don't go too far. I'm going back to my parents' home for the New Year, it's only right that I bring some things."
"They didn't cook, we'll just come back to eat. You don't need to talk to my parents like that." Upon hearing this, Li's mother glared at her, hands on her hips: "Oh, you dare to talk back? I'm being unreasonable? How am I being unreasonable? Tell me, what good have you brought to our family since you came into our lives? You can't even have a child!" Lin Wan's face instantly turned pale, her hands clenched into fists, her body trembling slightly. "Mom, the child's situation can't be entirely my fault. The miscarriage was also your fault..." Before she could finish speaking, Li's mother interrupted her: "Still trying to blame me? You fell down on your own, and you still insist on blaming me. Don't think I don't know your schemes. Only my foolish son believes what you say." Lin Wan still wanted to argue.
Li Bing, who had been silent all along, suddenly spoke up: "Alright, stop arguing," and then said to Lin Wan, "Mom's upset, so just say less. Why do you have to argue with her?" But his words didn't calm the conflict; instead, they made Lin Wan feel even more aggrieved. Looking at the man she once deeply loved, she felt utterly unfamiliar with him. Suddenly, a thought flashed through Lin Wan's mind. She decided she wouldn't continue to compromise like this; she needed to plan for her future.
Li's mother walked past Lin Wan with the smugness of a victorious rooster, then turned back to Lin Wan and said, "Aren't you going to come and help? Wait for me to serve you!"
Li Bing didn't even look at Lin Wan and said, "Go cook. Let Mom rest today. She's been working hard all day! As her daughter-in-law, you should help her out more!"
Hearing this, Lin Wan's temper flared. She turned and looked at Li Bing with disappointment, then glared fiercely at Li's mother, saying, "You think you can make me serve you? Do you deserve it? Don't forget, you're the one who pushed away the child in my belly. You can deny it, but so many people heard us arguing." Li's mother's face changed, and she shrieked, "You're talking nonsense! Who saw it? Show me the evidence!" Li Bing frowned and shouted, "Lin Wan, stop throwing a tantrum here. What kind of scene is this?" Lin Wan sneered, "Evidence? I don't need evidence. Everyone knows what's going on. I've endured so much in this family for so long, working like a slave for you. And how have you treated me?"
Mr. Li stared intently at Lin Wan for a while, then said to Mrs. Li, "Go and cook, let them both go and rest! I'll call you when the food is ready. We're all family, what kind of behavior is this, always making such a fuss!"
Li's mother wanted to say something, but seeing Li's father's expression, she didn't dare to speak and could only reluctantly go to the kitchen.
