Grandma Jin thought for a moment, then slowly said, "Well, it's not very peaceful outside right now, so please leave your things with me for now!"
"Okay, Grandma! I'll go get some water and help you wash up," Jin Yuanyuan replied obediently, then ran off to fetch water like a cheerful little bird. Grandma Jin watched her granddaughter skip and hop out of the room with a smile on her face, her heart filled with affection for her.
Meanwhile, Lin Jin was riding her bicycle towards her courtyard house. When she reached the alley entrance, she suddenly saw a familiar figure—Old Mrs. Gong. Old Mrs. Gong was carrying some heavy things in her hands and was walking with faltering steps.
As soon as Grandma Gong saw Lin Jin, she quickened her pace, but because the things she was carrying were too heavy, she had to stop and rest after only a few steps. Seeing this, Lin Jin quickly stopped her bicycle, then pushed it and walked briskly to Grandma Gong, asking with concern, "Grandma Gong, what brings you here?"
Grandma Gong's face was filled with a kind smile. She held Lin Jin's hand tightly and said softly, "Dr. Lin, I've always wanted to come and see you, but I've been too busy at home lately and haven't been able to find the time!"
Lin Jin was a little taken aback by Grandma Gong's sudden visit. He paused for a moment, then quickly replied, "Grandma Gong, you're too kind! You go about your business, everything's fine here, nothing's wrong!" Lin Jin quickly recovered and warmly invited, "Grandma Gong, come on, let's go to my house for a cup of tea, let's have a good chat!" With that, he picked up the things Grandma Gong had brought and led her toward his courtyard house.
Entering the courtyard, Lin Jin placed his things on the table and quickly brewed a pot of steaming fragrant tea. He carefully poured a cup of tea for Grandma Gong and then gently pushed the cup towards her.
Grandma Gong picked up her teacup, took a small sip, and savored the aroma spreading in her mouth. She slowly put the cup down, her gaze falling on Lin Jin, and asked with concern, "Dr. Lin, are you settling in well at school?"
Lin Jin replied with a smile, "Grandma Gong, don't worry, I'm doing well at school. From now on, you can just call me by my name, or you can call me Xiao Jin, that's fine too!"
Upon hearing this, Grandma Gong replied happily, "Alright, Xiao Jin, Grandma will call you that from now on!"
Lin Jin smiled happily and replied, "Okay, Grandma!"
Just then, Old Madam Gong suddenly stared at Lin Jin's smiling face, as if time had frozen at that moment. Her eyes were somewhat unfocused, as if she were recalling some past events.
Lin Jin keenly noticed Grandma Gong's unusual behavior. Her smile gradually faded, replaced by a concerned expression as she asked, "Grandma, what's wrong? Are you feeling unwell?"
Grandma Gong snapped out of her reverie, quickly waved her hand, and explained with a smile, "Oh, it's nothing, Xiao Jin. Grandma just saw your smile and it suddenly reminded me of a good friend of mine from my youth. You two look so alike when you smile!"
Hearing this, Lin Jin became interested and asked curiously, "Grandma, where is your friend now? I'd really like to meet her sometime!"
Grandma Gong's eyes suddenly dimmed, and she sighed slowly, as if recalling a distant past. After a long while, she slowly said, "She is no longer in this world."
