Chapter 9 Space Upgrade (1/2)

When Lin Jin got home, it was already dawn. Sleeping was out of the question. She quickly prepared the medicine needed for the new mother, waiting for Yang Erniu to come and collect it. Then she prepared to make breakfast. Just as she finished boiling the water, there was a knock at the door. "Sister Lin, Sister Lin!" "Oh! Coming!" The door opened to find a little girl of about five or six years old. Lin Jin quickly asked, "Are you Sister Xiangzhi's eldest daughter?" "Yes, Sister Lin. My father asked me to come and get the medicine. Okay, I've packed it all for you. Remember to decoct it according to my instructions, three times a day, without fail." Lin Jin instructed her as she handed the medicine packet to the little girl. The little girl nodded obediently, about to leave, but then turned back and said, "Sister Lin, my mother and brother are so grateful to you. You saved them this time. I kowtow to you!" She was about to kneel down when Lin Jin quickly stopped her. "I'm a doctor. It's my duty to treat and save lives. Go back and take good care of your mother." Lin Jin patted the little girl's head gently and said, "Silly child, go on!"

After closing the door, Lin Jin sighed. Children in rural areas mature early, especially with grandmothers like that.

Such things happen in every era, but they are more serious in rural areas. Lin Jin thought to herself as she returned to the kitchen. After having breakfast, Lin Jin wanted to go up the mountain to gather some herbs, but it was too early, and the dew was too heavy. She decided to wait and go check her medical books in her spatial storage first.

Just as Lin Jin's thoughts stirred slightly, she felt a blur before her eyes, and the next moment she found herself in that mysterious space. The space, once shrouded in thick fog, was now crystal clear, revealing vast, empty land as far as the eye could see. And beside the familiar thatched hut, a shimmering pond had appeared.

Lin Jin was overjoyed and quickly walked towards the house. When she stepped inside, she was stunned by the sight before her—the previously empty room now had all the necessary facilities: a brand-new kitchen, a clean and tidy bathroom, cabinets, and neatly arranged tables and chairs. To her even greater surprise, in addition to the two books she already had, there was now a yellowed book on the table.

Lin Jin eagerly reached for the book and quickly flipped through the pages. "Haha!" A burst of excited laughter rang out as he discovered that this book was none other than the Banquet Return Technique manual he had been dreaming of! The book not only contained detailed illustrations but also densely packed text annotations. However, when he carefully examined the text, he was stunned. The words looked completely unfamiliar. Although he could easily understand the illustrations, he couldn't decipher the meaning of the characters no matter how hard he tried.

In his previous life, Lin Jin was a true academic genius! He could easily master even the most complex and obscure knowledge. But now, faced with the characters in this manual, he felt completely helpless and utterly baffled. Could it be oracle bone script? If it was oracle bone script, he was doomed. Where could he find someone who could recognize these characters? Never mind, with the manual in hand, he was invincible. Besides, he had the diagrams, right? He would practice according to the diagrams first. Lin Jin studied the manual in his spatial dimension, having already forgotten about going up the mountain.

By the time she came to her senses, noon had already passed. If she hadn't been hungry, she probably would still be stuck in the book. This manual was too amazing; Lin Jin had only practiced it for a morning, yet she felt refreshed all over, as if all her meridians had been opened up, and her steps were much lighter. She washed her face in the pool in the space and then came out to make lunch.

Then, she picked up her basket and headed up the mountain. The sun was quite strong today. Lin Jin walked along the mountain path, searching for useful herbs along the way. Suddenly, she heard a faint groan. Following the sound, she found a man in military uniform lying in the grass, his leg covered in blood. Lin Jin quickly went over to check the wound and found it was a snake bite. She quickly took out tools and herbs from her basket and began to treat the wound. The man looked at the girl, who appeared to be about seventeen or eighteen years old, with fair skin and clear, determined eyes, his heart filled with doubt. "Who are you? What are you doing here?" the man asked weakly.

While treating his wound, Lin Jin replied, "I am a doctor from a nearby village."

While treating the wound, Lin Jin said, "You're lucky to have met a doctor like me." After the wound was treated, the man said gratefully, "Thank you so much for saving my life, comrade. My name is Su Ran. I was just passing by when I got bitten by a snake. I thought I could just squeeze out the venom, but I almost died here."

Lin Jin saw through her act but didn't say anything. Wearing a military uniform, passing by this mountain—what a joke! Lin Jin smiled and said, "Since you're awake, rest for a while. The snake venom is gone, but you're still weak." Su Ran looked at Lin Jin, her eyes full of curiosity: "Comrade, your technique is so skillful; you must be a very capable doctor." Lin Jin responded and began packing her things. Su Ran continued, "May I ask your name, comrade? I will definitely repay your kindness in the future." "My name is Lin Jin. No need for repayment; a doctor's heart is benevolent." Lin Jin slung her basket over her shoulder and prepared to leave.
