Chapter 113 Picking Up Girls (1/2)

Wang Xiumei, holding An'an, said, "Where are you going? We're going back to town soon."

"We're going out to take care of something, we'll be right back." Ran Jinnian ran into Wang Caiyue's room again, slung her bag over her shoulder, and handed a bag to Ran Demin: "Dad, these are my clothes, can you carry them?"

Wang Xiumei said from the side, "Then we'll wait for you under the sycamore tree at the village entrance."

"good."

Ran Jinnian took Wang Caiyue's hand, and the two sisters stepped out of the courtyard.

"Sister, do you think I'm up to the task?" Wang Caiyue regretted it as soon as she left the courtyard; it was just a momentary impulse.

Ran Jinnian encouraged her: "If you can't do it, who can? You're a junior high school student from our village."

“I’m not the only junior high school graduate in the village; all the other educated youth were junior high school graduates,” Wang Caiyue said, referring to the other educated youth in the village.

Ran Jinnian saw that she lacked confidence: "Those educated youth will leave after a few years, but you are one of our own in the village."

"Oh, really?" Wang Caiyue laughed, then asked, "Sister, will those educated youth go back to the city later?"

Ran Jinnian's heart skipped a beat; she had unintentionally let something slip.

“I figured these educated youths weren’t from the village, so they would definitely try to go back to the city.” Ran Jinnian was right.

Wang Caiyue was well aware that she and the village chief's daughter, Wang Xiaolian, were good friends, and she would sometimes listen to her talk.

Those educated youth tried every means to return to the city, but it was impossible for them to do so.

The two sisters walked towards the village primary school while talking.

As they passed through the fields, the villagers were tilling the soil, weeding, and fertilizing, preparing for this year's rice planting.

Several educated youths were bent over, too tired to speak.

Just then, an aunt looked up and said, "Isn't that Jin'er from Wang Xiumei's family?"

"Yes, she's really getting more and more beautiful."

"This girl is really lucky. Her parents and brother are all employees in the town, and she is their only daughter."

The man had just finished speaking.

A male educated youth stared intently at Ran Jinnian. She was from the town, and her family was a dual-income household.

If he could be with her, wouldn't he be able to return to the city?

"Captain, I'm thirsty. I'd like to go back and get some water." Li Caijun's eyes darted around.

The captain glanced at him impatiently: "Where's your water bottle?"

"I left in a hurry this morning and didn't bring any water."

Li Caijun now had an excuse.

"Go on, there's still so much work to do in the fields, come back soon."

"Um."

Li Caijun threw down his hoe and quickly went up to the edge of the field.

"I heard she married a military officer; she's really lucky."

"Didn't they say that Jin's husband is paralyzed?"

Li Caijun didn't hear what was said after that and chased after Ran Jinnian.

Village Committee.

Ran Jinnian and Wang Caiyue walked in.

"Caiyue, what are you doing here? Is something wrong at home?" The village chief assumed something had happened to the Wang family as soon as he saw her.

After all, most of the people in Fengshou Village are surnamed Wang.

Upon seeing the village chief, Wang Caiyue was speechless for a moment: "Village chief, I, I..."

"Third Uncle".

Ran Jinnian spoke up.

She addresses the village chief according to seniority.

The village chief hadn't recognized Ran Jinnian yet. The village had been busy these past two days; he had only stayed briefly at the Wang family's funeral before leaving.

So he hasn't met Ran Jinnian yet.

"It's Jin, you're back," the village chief said cheerfully.

Ran Jinnian took out a pack of cigarettes and a packet of sugar from her bag: "Third Uncle, I haven't been back for a long time. How have you been lately?"
