Ran Jinnian squatted down and touched the little guy's face: "Daddy is doing something very, very important outside. Once this important thing is done, he will come back."
"oh."
The little guy blinked and continued to ask, "What seems very important is family?"
"Catch the bad guys."
Ran Jinnian knew she couldn't just give any reason, or the little guy would keep asking until he got to the bottom of it.
"Dad is awesome."
The little guy heard his mother praise him like that every day, and he learned to speak like that too.
Ran Jinnian was both amused and exasperated.
noon.
Ran Jinnian made an egg custard and a carrot and lean meat ball.
She put a bib on An'an and let the little guy hold the bowl and spoon and eat by himself.
The little guy buried his head in the bowl and ate very obediently by himself.
When An'an ate the meatball, the little one pouted and asked, "Is there any tiger radish?"
The little one doesn't like carrots; he used to pick them out every time we ate them. His favorite food is meat.
Ran Jinnian now chops up carrots and adds them to the meat.
The little guy is always very upset.
"Daddy loves to eat carrots, that's why he can catch bad guys. If An'an eats carrots, he'll be able to catch bad guys too."
Sure enough, this saying always comes true.
"I want to eat the bad kernels." The little guy buried his head again and started munching away.
Ran Jinnian would occasionally wipe his mouth and straighten his bowl.
"I still want to eat." The little guy had food crumbs left at the corner of his mouth.
Ran Jinnian added some more rice to his bowl: "Would you like some meat?"
The little guy hesitated for a moment when he realized there were carrots in the meatballs.
“Then An’an doesn’t want it, Mommy will eat it all.”
"want."
Upon hearing that Ran Jinnian had eaten everything, An'an quickly picked up her bowl.
Ran Jinnian scooped two meatballs for him, and after the little guy finished eating, he picked up the bowl and said, "I'm done eating."
"An'an is great."
Ran Jinnian washed his face and wiped his hands with a handkerchief. She then lifted him off the table, saying, "You play by yourself first, Mom will wash the dishes."
An'an ran to the corner of the yard, where there was a water tank that was more than half full of water and a few small fish.
This is a fish tank that Lu Jinyuan made for the little guy so he can play by himself.
The little guy picked up a small fishing net and a small bucket, and started scooping the fish out of the tank.
Ran Jinnian was in the kitchen, glancing at the little guy every now and then through the window.
After she finished tidying up, she came out and deliberately asked, "What are you doing?"
"I'm scooping up fish, and I've scooped up a really shiny fish."
"Wow, you caught a really beautiful fish!" Ran Jinnian walked over and rolled up the little guy's sleeve.
"Its eyes are so bright, just like its mother's eyes."
An'an pointed at the fish in the small bucket, her tone particularly serious.
Ran Jinnian was taken aback, then couldn't help but laugh.
Children's words are interesting.
After playing for a while, Ran Jinnian noticed that An'an's pants were a little wet: "An'an, let's stop playing and change your pants."
"Um."
The little guy threw the fishing net into the small bucket.
Ran Jinnian poured the fish from the small bucket back into the water tank. She put the fishing net into the small bucket and then placed it in the corner.
Only then did he take An'an back to the house to change her pants.
Outside the window, the cicadas chirped incessantly.
Ran Jinnian picked up a palm-leaf fan and gently fanned An'an: "How about taking a nap?"
