"Jin Nian, what dishes are these for?" Zhou Hongying called out to the outside.
Ran Jinnian was playing with a child when she heard Zhou Hongying call out to her, "You're here."
She walked into the kitchen: "I've prepared tofu, bean sprouts, pickled cabbage, dried vermicelli, and potatoes. I'm planning to make a meat-based tofu pudding."
"Meat-filled tofu pudding?"
No one has ever eaten this kind of dish before.
"Bone and radish are used to make soup."
Everyone was somewhat surprised to hear Ran Jin say this.
They naturally noticed the meat bones, assuming they were kept for someone else's own consumption, but it turned out they were used to entertain guests.
“The food is already very good, so you don’t need the bone broth. You can keep it for yourself.” Zhou Hongying tugged at her.
"There aren't many meat bones, so let's stew a pot of soup and have a hot meal together."
Ran Jinnian had plenty of meat in her space; she could have whatever she wanted to eat. Besides, there were only two cleaned meat bones, perfect for making soup with some vegetables.
Moreover, some leaders are coming to dinner tonight, so even if we can't go too far, we can't be too shabby either.
Seeing that Ran Jinnian insisted, no one said much.
"Then I'll make the soup," said Tan Lixia, the new member of the group.
"Sisters-in-law, you've done so much today, I, as the host, have no face left."
"Ha ha ha ha."
Everyone laughed.
Since Ran Jinnian had already said so, everyone let her make the soup herself.
Nowadays, when making soup, we just chop up the meat and bones, throw them into the pot, and cook them directly.
Ran Jinnian learned a lot about cooking from the recipes.
She first put the meat bones in a pot of cold water and boiled them until the foam rose to the surface. Then she took them out and washed them clean again.
Then put a little bit of lard in the pot, stir-fry it for a while, and then pour it into a clay pot filled with boiling water.
Then ginger and Sichuan peppercorns were added to the soup before the bone broth was simmered.
She took out another piece of cured pork, intending to stir-fry it with dried radish. To avoid making it too exaggerated, there were only about ten slices of cured pork on the plate.
That's all for today's dishes. They look simple, but they're actually quite plentiful.
4:30.
A number of people came to the courtyard, and they sat together eating sunflower seeds and chatting happily.
Song Mingyi and Lin Beixiao each carried a bottle of wine and a can of syrup, respectively.
"You're here, why bring all this?" Lu Jinyuan didn't take it.
"It's not just for you to drink, we're all drinking together tonight."
When the two saw that he wouldn't take it, they simply placed it on the table.
"It smells so good." Song Mingyi sniffed, the air filled with the rich aroma of meat, and his eyes lit up.
"How much meat did you buy? Be careful."
Song Mingyi was afraid that Lu Jinyuan was too high-profile and would be reported for acting like a capitalist.
"There wasn't much meat, just some bone broth," Lu Jinyuan said.
Song Mingyi finally breathed a sigh of relief: "Bone broth, it smells so good."
He couldn't help but swallow.
"Honey, can we start cooking now?" Ran Jinnian said, noticing that quite a few people had already arrived.
Lu Jinyuan checked the time: "I'll cook the dishes."
As he spoke, he took the apron and put it on, his movements practiced and natural.
Everyone was taken aback. Nowadays, it's mostly women who do the cooking, and it's common for pregnant women to cook.
No one expected that Lu Jinyuan would be the one cooking.
Lin Beixiao and Song Mingyi were also taken aback.
Both of them were children of high-ranking officials, and their mothers also held official positions, but it was still their mothers who cooked at home.
They just felt that Lu Jinyuan was too outrageous.
Seeing that everyone was looking at him, Ran Jinnian quickly said, "You talk to everyone, I'll cook."
