Ran Jinnian cut another piece of cured meat.
Just then, Wang Xiumei walked in: "What's stewing in the pot?"
"I made some radish and pork rib soup," Ran Jinnian said.
Upon hearing this, Wang Xiumei exclaimed, "You silly girl, why are you stewing this?"
Ran Jinnian scraped the cured meat with a knife, then washed it clean with hot water: "Of course we're going to eat it."
“We can just eat whatever we want. When it comes to living, we have to…” Wang Xiumei hadn’t finished speaking when she saw Ran Jinnian cutting cured meat again: “What are you doing?”
“Slice the cured pork.”
"What are you doing?"
"Mom, why are you asking so many questions? Of course, it's stir-frying!"
Ran Jin thought the better her knife skills were, and she quickly sliced a piece of cured meat into pieces.
"You spendthrift daughter! Who else is as wasteful as you? You made pork rib soup and now you're stir-frying cured meat!" Wang Xiumei quickly pulled Ran Jinnian back, feeling that she had spoiled her daughter too much in the past, and now that she was married, she didn't know how to manage a household at all.
Ran Jinnian was both amused and exasperated: "Mom, you've come all this way, shouldn't you at least get something good to eat?"
She has even more great stuff in her online space, but she can't openly show it off.
"You can't eat it like that. Don't stir-fry the cured meat today. Put it away quickly."
"Mom, I'm in charge here. You'll eat whatever I cook."
Ran Jinnian knew that Wang Xiumei felt sorry for her and wanted her to eat more, but she also felt sorry for her mother and mother-in-law.
Wang Xiumei noticed how assertive her daughter had become: "My daughter is really different now that she's married."
"Mom," Ran Jinnian said sweetly.
Wang Xiumei gave her a deep look: "Seeing that you're doing well in the military region, I feel at ease."
"Mom, you didn't even ask me, how do you know if I'm doing well?" Ran Jinnian said in surprise.
“You are a piece of my flesh, I can tell at a glance how you are doing.”
Wang Xiumei knows her daughter very well.
"Mom, I'm doing very well in the military region. Jin Yuan is very good to me, and my sisters-in-law are also very good to me."
Ran Jinnian was speaking from the heart.
"I'm happy as long as you're doing well."
The mother and daughter were talking in the kitchen. Lu's mother didn't come in to disturb them; she was playing with the little one outside.
Ran Jin read out the instructions for cooking, and Wang Xiumei set out the bowls and chopsticks.
"Mom, dinner's ready."
Ran Jinnian brought out the last hot and sour shredded potato dish.
Lu's mother came out of the room: "Keep your voice down, An'an is asleep."
The little guy was sleepy earlier, but because his grandma and paternal grandma suddenly came, he managed to stay awake until now before finally falling asleep.
"Mom, drink more soup to warm yourselves up." Ran Jinnian ladled a large bowl of soup for each of them.
Lu's mother took a big gulp and felt warm all over: "This soup is very sweet and delicious."
"I grew these radishes myself." Ran Jin suddenly turned into a boastful child in front of her mother.
Mother Lu praised, "Jin Nian is really amazing."
Hearing her daughter's words, Wang Xiumei felt a pang of sadness. Her daughter, who had never farmed before, was now growing radishes.
"Mom, you should rest early after dinner. If it doesn't rain tomorrow, I'll take you for a walk around the military area." Ran Jinnian put a large piece of pork rib on each of their plates.
Seeing that she kept putting food on their plates, Lu's mother said, "Don't worry about us, just eat more yourself."
Wang Xiumei didn't say anything, but silently served food to her daughter.
"Jin Nian." Madam Lu took a few bites and looked up.
"Um?"
"Jinyuan went to help with disaster relief, right? How long has he been gone?"
After hearing the news on the radio, Lu's mother knew that her son would go to help with disaster relief.
"Mom, he's been gone for almost two months. The situation has stabilized now, and he'll be back soon." Ran Jinnian wasn't sure when he would return.
Lu's mother was worried, but knowing that her daughter-in-law was just as worried, she simply said, "He has always put my mind at ease since he was a child. He will definitely return safely."
