After Su Yue finished speaking, she secretly glanced at Fu Shen beside her out of the corner of her eye and saw that he was frowning and deep in thought.
Her round eyes darted around, trying to think of a topic to distract Fu Shen. Just then, Grandpa Yang's puzzled voice came from outside.
"Jingyi, did your mom and Yueyue go out for a walk?"
Wang Jingyi stood on the threshold of the main room and replied gently, "No, they're all inside."
Grandpa Yang said with a smile, "I thought they had gone out."
For the past ten days or so, Su Yue always liked to sit in the yard. Every time he went out and came back, he was used to seeing Su Yue staring longingly at the door. Now that he suddenly didn't see her, he thought she had finally come to her senses and gone out for a walk to clear her head.
Su Yue looked up at Fu Shen and said, "Grandpa's back, let's go out quickly."
Considering that they had been in the room for quite a while, and recalling the moment Grandma Yang was stunned and full of surprise when she saw Fu Shen, Su Yue knew that the old lady must have a lot to say and couldn't wait to confide in Fu Shen.
Fu Shen nodded. "Okay."
I couldn't quite recall the strange feeling in my heart, so I decided to put it out of my mind for the time being.
Su Yue reached out and pushed open the door, leaned out, and called out crisply in Grandpa Yang's direction, "Grandpa, I didn't go out."
When Grandpa Yang heard Su Yue's voice coming from her room, he subconsciously looked in the direction of the sound. The next second, he was stunned—he saw Fu Shen standing tall and straight behind Su Yue.
Fu Shen greeted him with a perfectly timed smile, "Grandpa Yang."
The voice was clear and respectful.
Grandpa Yang responded, "Coming."
He thought to himself: This child looks exactly like Huo Xueshen when he returned to China. No wonder his wife recognized him at a glance.
But looking so alike, it's probably not an easy thing for them to move around so frequently in the North City; they might just get into some trouble.
But let's not worry about that for now. The child just arrived. Let my wife and Yueyue have a good talk with him and see how things go before we decide.
Grandma Yang, who had been listening intently in the main room, heard Su Yue and the other two talking outside. Unable to contain her eagerness any longer, she hurried out with a kind smile on her face.
"Old man, Yueyue, Fu Shen, come inside and talk. It's sunny outside."
Once inside, Wang Jingyi poured Fu Shen a glass of water. Fu Shen accepted it with both hands, thanked her, took a sip, and then placed the glass on the table.
Grandma Yang stared intently at Fu Shen, her eyes instantly welling up with tears. Her voice trembled slightly, filled with guilt and heartache as she spoke:
“Child, you’ve had a hard time. I’m so useless. I couldn’t find your father back then, and I didn’t know where he was sent down to. I couldn’t help him at all, and I didn’t even know you were suffering back then.”
The thought of not being able to find where Huo Xueshen had been sent down to, and not knowing whether he was alive or dead, still weighed heavily on her mind, even now that she knew he had returned safely to the research institute.
Back then, her old friend only closed her eyes in peace after hearing her promise to find Huo Xueshen. If Huo Xueshen really had an accident and passed away, how could she live up to her old friend's trust?
Fu Shen panicked and looked at Su Yue with a helpless expression in his eyes.
Having grown up in this world, he had almost never received care from older female relatives. Suddenly faced with Grandma Yang's heartfelt words of thanks for his hard work, he had no idea how to react or what to say in response to this unexpected concern.
Su Yue was the only woman he could trust wholeheartedly and who gave him peace of mind. She was also the woman he was closest to. At this moment, he could only look to her for help.
Su Yue sensed Fu Shen's panic, gently patted the back of his hand, and then looked at Grandma Yang.
"Grandma, the suffering that Uncle Huo and Fu Shen endured was not caused by you. Don't say such things."
Seeing this, Wang Jingyi quickly got up and walked to Grandma Yang's side, bent down slightly, and affectionately put her arm around her shoulder.
“Mom, Yueyue is right. The suffering that Fu Shen and his son endured stems from Huo Yunqi. If you take all the blame upon yourself, wouldn’t that be saying that Huo Yunqi is completely blameless?”
