Chapter 45 Letter from Fu Shen's Parents (2/2)

Her craving for meat started more than a month after she arrived at the army base. She needed to eat meat with her meals and also needed to have a meal in her personal space before going to sleep.

Fu Shen also recalled that he had eaten at the state-run restaurant yesterday and ordered two meat dishes and one shredded potato dish.

He only ate shredded potatoes, while Su Yue ate a whole bowl of braised pork and half a chicken by herself.

This was truly shocking to Fu Shen, who felt nauseous at the sight of meat.

The two went to buy groceries and returned to the unit. The guard ran out of there, seemingly to use the restroom, and saw them come back.

The guard jogged up to Fu Shen and said, "Battalion Commander Fu, there's a letter from your hometown."

Fu Shen turned his head and said to Su Yue, "I'll go get the letter."

Su Yue nodded slightly.

Fu Shen received the letter and prepared to head back when Jiang Huaidong came out of the office building, spotted Fu Shen at a glance, and quickly ran over to him.

"Fu Shen is back."

Fu Shen pretended not to hear, his face cold, and walked straight past him.

Jiang Huaidong's face turned pale and then red, and he stood there awkwardly.

Walking to Su Yue's side, Su Yue glanced at Jiang Huaidong and asked Fu Shen softly, "What did he say to you?"

Fu Shen continued walking and replied, "I don't know, let's go back."

Indeed, no one knew. Jiang Huaidong only said one sentence to Fu Shen, and Fu Shen didn't say anything.

Since Fu Shen didn't say anything, Su Yue didn't ask either.

Jiang Huaidong couldn't say anything nice either; she just thought his skin was astoundingly thick.

It hasn't been long since he drugged someone, and now he's acting as if nothing happened, smiling and talking to Fu Shen.

Jiang Huaidong watched the two figures disappear into the distance, a slow smile spreading across his lips.

It's okay to ignore him.

He originally wanted to show off something, and he had been waiting since yesterday afternoon, but unfortunately, he couldn't say it.

After returning home, Fu Shen casually tossed the letter onto the table.

Su Yue looked at the letter with a puzzled expression and asked, "...Aren't you going to read what it says?"

As Fu Shen carried the groceries he had bought to the kitchen, he said, "No rush, let's look at it after lunch."

Su Yue shook her head helplessly, thinking of the icy-thin relationship between Fu Shen and his parents.

Su Yue and Fu Shen went to the kitchen to prepare lunch. After they finished eating, Fu Shen opened the letter, and Su Yue curiously leaned over to read it together.

The more Fu Shen looked, the more his brows furrowed.

Su Yue, curious, couldn't help but ask, "What was written in the letter?"

Fu Shen looked at her, and Su Yue pressed further, "What's wrong? Can't you tell me?"

Fu Shen asked with a hint of confusion, "You can't read?"

The letter he wrote when he went on the mission...

Su Yue was somewhat disappointed. "When I was eight years old, my father was going to send me to the village school, but then he had an accident that year."

At Liu Meili's home, she was busy like a spinning top every day. Forget about reading, even eating was a problem.

Fu Shen looked apologetic. "I'm sorry, I didn't know. I didn't mean to discriminate against you when I said that."

Su Yue smiled and said, "I know that everyone in the world will discriminate against me, but you won't."

Fu Shen looked at her earnestly and promised, "I will teach you to read in the future."

He only had the opportunity to learn knowledge after joining the army.

Su Yue nodded heavily and urged, "Tell me quickly what was written in the letter."

Fu Shen: "My parents told me to go back and get married. They said they had already found a wife, my aunt's niece. She has been living in my house for three months. She gets up early every day to cook for the family and does what a daughter-in-law should do. When they saw that I hadn't come back, the villagers laughed at my parents every day. They had no choice but to write a letter urging me to go back."

Su Yue paused, then asked, "...Are you going back?"

Fu Shen answered without hesitation: "Yes, I'll go back now while I'm resting. It's getting late, I'll buy a ticket now and go back tomorrow."

After saying that, he stood up and prepared to leave.

Su Yue quickly grabbed his hand and asked anxiously, "Are you going back alone?"

Fu Shen replied, "I'll go back alone. You're newly pregnant, and the train journey will be tiring."

Su Yue frowned slightly. "Do you think you can convince your mother to give up on letting you marry your niece?"
