Jiang Huaidong stopped abruptly when he saw Fu Shen, knowing full well that Fu Shen had been missing for the past few days because he had taken Su Yue back to his hometown.
Knowing that Fu Shen had a bad relationship with his parents, a hint of malice flashed in his eyes, and he said with ill intent, "Are your parents unhappy that you married a country girl? Otherwise, why would you have come back so quickly?"
Fu Shen glanced at him coldly, then continued walking down the path without stopping.
Just when Jiang Huaidong thought he wouldn't get a response, Fu Shen walked up to him, his voice low and cold: "My wife doesn't need their approval. But you, leaving your wife at home, when do you plan to call her to come and join the army?"
He strode away as soon as he finished speaking.
Jiang Huaidong's face flushed red with anger. He turned his head and stared intently in the direction Fu Shen had left.
Fu Shen keenly noticed the resentful gaze, turned around, a mocking smile playing on his lips, and then continued walking forward as if nothing had happened.
Just then, a questioning voice came from behind Jiang Huaidong, "Huaidong, why are you staring at Fu Shen?"
And he was clenching his fists, as if he wanted to go up and fight.
Weren't they good comrades-in-arms before? How did things turn out like this?
Upon suddenly hearing voices, Jiang Huaidong panicked.
He slowly turned his head, forcing an unnatural smile. "Uh, it's Xiao Lin. I just greeted Fu Shen, but he didn't seem very willing to talk to me. I don't know if I did something wrong."
He felt uneasy, wondering if Xiao Lin had heard what Fu Shen said.
In his memory, Fu Shen usually acted as if it were none of his business, but when he simply said that his parents didn't like Su Yue, Fu Shen actually said without any politeness that he had a wife waiting at home.
Didn't he know that if others found out that he and Su Xiaomei had held a banquet in the village, his affair with Su Yue would also be exposed?
Xiao Lin said "Oh," and enthusiastically suggested, "How about I go ask him for you? I think Fu Shen is quite easy to talk to, as long as you don't cross his bottom line, right...?"
Before Xiao Lin could finish speaking, Jiang Huaidong interrupted him, looking somewhat uneasy. "I definitely didn't do anything to cross his line. Maybe it's because he's married, and his wife told him not to have too much contact with us single people."
He cleverly shifted all the questions onto Su Yue, thinking that this would stop Xiao Lin from asking any more questions.
Sure enough, Xiaolin nodded and said, "Some wives do not like their husbands getting too close to unmarried men, but it's okay. There are plenty of unmarried people in the army. We can just hang out together. I'm going to get back to work now."
Jiang Huaidong quickly replied, "Okay."
On the other side, after Wang Jingyi left, Su Yue immersed herself in practicing calligraphy again.
After writing a few pages, she slowly stood up and gently twisted her neck.
She glanced at the watch Fu Shen had left behind and realized it was almost eleven o'clock, so she thought it was time to prepare lunch.
Fortunately, she had a "cheating tool," so cooking didn't take too much effort.
She entered the space, picked a handful of tender sweet potato leaves, skillfully broke and shredded them, put them in a basin to soak in water, and then grabbed a handful of rice to cook porridge.
As soon as Fu Shen reached the front door, he saw Su Yue come out of the kitchen, carefully carrying a small pot of something towards the main room.
He hurried forward and steadily took the pot from him.
Su Yue smiled and said, "You're back just in time; the meal is all ready."
Fu Shen carried the porridge to the main room and put it down. He looked at Su Yue with a serious yet concerned expression: "Yueyue, don't carry heavy things casually in the future. Wait for me to come back."
Su Yue said nonchalantly, "It's okay, this thing isn't heavy."
Fu Shen frowned. "I know you're strong, but you're pregnant now and can't lift heavy things."
He kept every word of advice the doctor gave him firmly in mind, especially the two points about not taking medicine when sick and not lifting heavy objects.
