After Wang Jingyi and Zhang Lanhua finished discussing Pan Danu's matter at Su Yue's house, they chatted casually for a while before getting up to leave.
As soon as Su Yue closed the door and returned to the room, she heard another urgent knocking.
She opened the door with a puzzled look in her eyes, only to see a strange young soldier standing outside.
The soldier was visibly taken aback when he saw Su Yue, and then stammered, "Sister-in-law, Battalion Commander Fu is leading a team to train in the mountains. He specifically asked me to come and tell you that you don't need to wait for him to come back for lunch."
Su Yue gave a gentle smile: "Thank you for your trouble."
"No, no trouble at all!" The soldier blushed, turned around, and ran away in a flash.
No wonder the battalion commander insisted on sending him to deliver the message. It turns out his sister-in-law is so beautiful. If he could marry such a beautiful wife in the future, he would report his whereabouts to her every day.
He's been in the army for almost a year and has never seen another battalion commander as meticulous as Battalion Commander Fu. Even if he doesn't go home for meals, he sends someone back to inform him.
At noon, Su Yue had a simple lunch and then took a half-hour nap.
After waking up, I got up and walked around for a bit, then sat back down at the table to continue practicing calligraphy.
After more than ten days of persistent practice, the handwriting on the paper is now becoming more and more neat.
Su Yue glanced at the junior high school math textbook on the table and thought to herself, "If she were to practice calligraphy and study math at the same time, her handwriting would definitely not be this neat. It would be so annoying."
That day, she flipped through her physics, chemistry, and English textbooks again. She had previously complained to Fu Shen that math was too difficult to understand, and still harbored a little bit of hope. Now, she had completely given up on the college entrance exam.
As evening approached, Su Yue was preparing dinner when Fu Shen pushed open the door and entered.
He was covered in mud from head to toe, looking like a mud man who had just crawled out of a swamp.
Su Yue's eyes widened in surprise. "What did you go about? Why are you covered in mud?"
Fu Shen dragged his heavy steps inside, saying, "They were fighting in the mud pit."
Su Yue: "Why are they fighting?"
Fu Shen raised his hand to wipe the mud off his face and explained, "It's a kind of combat training, not real fighting."
Su Yue suddenly realized why; how could soldiers fight openly without fear of punishment?
She quickly scooped up some clean water, watched as Fu Shen carefully washed his muddy hands, then found some clean clothes and handed them to him before turning to go to the kitchen to busy herself.
After Fu Shen finished showering, he carried a bucket of water to the door and wiped the mud off the door panel.
At this moment, Su Yue had already served the stir-fried vegetables and then quickly arranged the meat, vegetables, and rice on the table.
She said to Fu Shen, who was washing clothes, "Let's eat first. You left the army before noon, what did you have for lunch?"
Fu Shen stopped what he was doing, turned around and responded, then stood up and vigorously shook the water off his hands: "I didn't eat lunch."
Su Yue looked at him with concern: "You've been hungry all this time?"
Fu Shen nodded: "Yes, sometimes when we run out of food on a mission and the mission is not completed, the enemy doesn't care if you're hungry or not. We have to adapt in advance and see how much combat capability we have left in a state of extreme hunger."
Recalling the training scene, the corners of his mouth involuntarily turned up—ten people were so hungry that their stomachs were growling, yet they gritted their teeth and fought him as if he were an "enemy".
Exhausted from playing, they collapsed on the ground, their stomachs growling louder and louder, and then they burst into laughter.
During this meal, Fu Shen ate more meat than Su Yue. Seeing this, Su Yue took out another portion of meat from her spatial storage.
She watched Fu Shen wolf down his food and asked, "Do the mess hall provide enough meat for the soldiers who train with you?"
Fu Shen looked up at her and said, "The cafeteria will provide them with extra meals."
Su Yue nodded, "That's good."
I've been starving for so long, how can I stand not working overtime?
