Chapter 22 Rong Zhaonan's True Colors (1/2)

Ning Yuan stared in disbelief at the tree below.

A man who leaps and bounds among wild beasts with agility and ferocity is more like a apex predator than a real wild animal.

The knife in his hand cut vital organs with every strike; his movements were cold, precise, ruthless, and decisive—a perfect example of violent aesthetics, akin to that of a dismemberer.

When it was all over, the ground was covered with blood and animal carcasses. The man suddenly raised his face and his gaze accurately captured Ning Yuan in the tree.

He wasn't wearing glasses; his refined and handsome face was stained with blood, and his dark, gloomy eyes reflected the dim moonlight.

"Get down," he said calmly, looking at her.

The man under the tree didn't seem human; he was more like a deadly weapon coated in countless drops of blood, inspiring fear and dread.

Ning Yuan's mind went completely blank. She subconsciously obeyed and let go. By the time she realized something was wrong, she was already falling straight down.

"call!"

Just when she thought she was about to fall in two, she was suddenly caught.

The man's body steamed up, the scent of grass and trees mixed with the bloody smell of animals, so aggressive that it assaulted every pore and sense of smell of Ning Yuan.

She froze, stammering, "Th...thank you..."

The man suddenly released her, placing her on the ground. He looked down at the trembling girl, her eyes red and glaring at him like a rabbit's.

Rong Zhaonan narrowed his long, narrow eyes: "What, are you afraid of me?"

Ning Yuancai stood up straight, and under his gaze, she couldn't help but tremble: "I... I didn't."

How could I not be afraid?

With such terrifying skills, he could easily kill those who bullied him without anyone noticing.

But this man silently endured being sent down to the countryside for several years, becoming a 'village doctor' who was bullied by everyone.

Why is she so tolerant? She doesn't know.

But she knew that people who were both very capable and very patient in this world must have big ambitions, and were most likely to be quite terrifying.

"Then why are you trembling?" He looked down at her quietly.

Ning Yuan chuckled dryly, "I was terrified, after all... I almost died."

She only followed him up the mountain and didn't see what he was going to do, let alone what secrets he was hiding. Please let her go!

The way he stared at her with a bloodshot, sinister look, as if he were really going to kill her to silence her and destroy the evidence, would anyone not be afraid.

Rong Zhaonan raised an eyebrow, then slowly reached out and stroked her fair neck: "Hmm, you almost died."

For a moment, Ning Yuan felt as if a wild beast had grabbed her by the neck. She almost wanted to push him away and run away, but her rationality stopped her.

The next moment, Rong Zhaonan held a slender green snake in his hand, raising an eyebrow: "Can't you see it?"

Ning Yuan and the little green snake stared at each other, nose to nose, as the snake's tongue licked her face.

Her nerves, which had been on edge for hours, snapped completely at that moment.

Ning Yuan rolled her eyes and fell backward: "Ah—!!!"

Rong Zhaonan looked at the girl who had collapsed and lost consciousness, and caught her body.

With such limited skills, you think you can follow him?

They weren't afraid of being eaten whole, skin and bones.

Rong Zhaonan narrowed his eyes, picked up Ning Yuan, and walked towards the side of the mountain.

The girl in his arms was soft, slender and light; he could easily lift her up with a simple hug.

He thought without any expression—

This little spy is really unprofessional. He discovered she was following him, and when she was being chased by a herd of wild boars, he was just watching from a tree nearby.

I thought that this life-or-death situation would force her to reveal her true abilities, or at least let me see if she was hiding a gun.

As a result, she was chased and screamed like a ghost. Except for being a little more agile and quicker to react, she was able to hop up a tree like a rabbit.

I didn't notice anything else unusual about her.

It's unclear whether the enemy on the other side is becoming increasingly incompetent, or whether this little spy is just incompetent himself.

...

Ning Yuan was awakened by the aroma of barbecue.

She sat up abruptly, mumbling groggily, "Meat...who's grilling meat..."

She opened her eyes and saw a large, oily pork chop and a pork knuckle roasting on the fire, emitting a smoky aroma.

There was even the aroma of cumin and pepper, and she instantly felt her stomach start growling uncontrollably.

"Awake?" A clear, magnetic male voice suddenly rang out.

Ning Yuan then noticed that besides the fragrant pork, there was a tall, quiet figure sitting by the fire.

She was now fully awake; she had just fainted!

"Eat something, you have low blood sugar." Rong Zhaonan suddenly handed over a skewer of grilled pork.

He wore a thin white worker's vest, and his long legs were encased in loose dark green military trousers, which made his waist appear even narrower and his shoulders even broader.

She resembled a slender, aloof poplar tree.

But she knew he was a knife; when his deep eyes stared at her, it even reminded her of the dark muzzle of a gun.

Ning Yuan lowered her eyes to avoid his gaze, took the grilled meat he offered, and coughed lightly: "Thank you, I have low blood pressure and low blood sugar."

But when she looked down, she saw the faded military green jacket covering her, with bloodstains on it.

Ning Yuan was startled. Was this the blood of those wild boars?

"These few wild boars are enough to eat for a long time, but they're not easy to preserve," Rong Zhaonan said leisurely, taking a sip of water from his military water bottle.

As he moved, the firelight seemed to coat his well-defined, explosive shoulders and arms with a flowing gold.

Not to mention his sharp features and eyebrows, which had a cold and dangerous beauty in the firelight.

She couldn't even look directly at him.

Amitabha Buddha, it's not appropriate to be lustful towards men at a time like this!

Focus on eating meat!

"That's nothing... I can smoke cured meat!" Ning Yuan immediately lowered her head to eat the roasted meat, while speaking earnestly.

The roasted wild boar meat is absolutely amazing, with an excellent flavor. The tender pork chop is fatty but not greasy, and it's crispy and juicy. There's also the pork knuckle with its crispy skin and tender meat.

They haven't lacked meat lately, and they might even be able to find a way to sell it.

“That’s possible,” Rong Zhaonan said casually.

But the next moment, he suddenly changed the subject: "Why were you following me?"

Ning Yuan paused in her eating, glanced at him, and her eyes darted around: "I didn't..."

"I want to hear the truth." Rong Zhaonan raised his eyes and said calmly, "I hate being lied to the most."
