Chapter 28 I'm Not His Watchdog (2/2)

The tall man was so frustrated that tears were about to well up in his eyes; he felt incredibly wronged.

Rong Zhaonan coldly kicked him in the butt: "I'm not your captain, I retired a long time ago. Get up, Chen Chen."

Chen Chen finally got up, muttering resentfully, "I've trained in the army for years without slacking off for a single day, how come I couldn't even last three moves against you! I even won first place in the all-army competition!"

He really wanted to cry. Damn it, how hard it was for him to get first place in the whole army, he fought tooth and nail for it.

As a result, he "died" in less than three moves against this ghostly guy!

Is this what the instructor meant when he said talent determines everything?

"Captain, our old leader once said that you have extraordinary talent and that you learned martial arts from a master since you were a child. Is that true?" Chen Chen shamelessly approached Rong Zhaonan, wanting to hug him.

Rong Zhaonan pointed a finger at his forehead, and Chen Chen couldn't get any closer.

Rong Zhaonan said expressionlessly, "Stop being so girly and stay away from me, it's disgusting."

Chen Chen cried: "Captain, don't be so cold, I miss you so much..."

Rong Zhaonan frowned: "What exactly are you here for? If you're here to make a fool of yourself, then get lost."

Chen Chen wiped away his tears and sighed, "Brother, you should know why I'm here when you see me. I'm sorry we're late."

He and his team had actually been trying to find Rong Zhaonan.

But he seemed to have vanished without a trace; all that was known was that he had been sent down to a rural area in the south.

Rong Zhaonan pursed his lips tightly, lowered his eyes and turned his back: "What do you want from me? You have your own lives, don't get involved with me."

Chen Chen never expected the person he longed for so much to be so cold, and he felt a pang of sadness in his heart: "Captain..."

He clenched his fists, suppressing his excitement, his eyes reddening: "It's all over, society is about to return to normal. I've come to take you back to the capital. We all know how much you've suffered these past years."

His captain, once so spirited, unrestrained, and a proud son of heaven, like the blazing sun.

But now, when he first saw Rong Zhaonan, he could hardly believe that this was the genius military king who had made everyone submit at the age of eighteen.

He had completely transformed into a silent, pale, and frail village doctor.

Rong Zhaonan was taken aback, a complex mix of emotions and pain flashing in his eyes.

He stood with his back turned and hands behind his back: "My old man sent you to find me, didn't he?"

Chen Chen hesitated for a moment, but still said very seriously, "My old leader has been reinstated and he has been thinking about you. I came to find you as soon as I received the order."

Rong Zhaonan sneered: "Is that so? He's afraid I won't go back and become someone else's pawn, so he sent you to be the first to sound out the situation and build relationships."

Chen Chen immediately straightened his chest, raised his right hand, and swore: "I swear to the red flag, I am absolutely not a spy. The old leader is really concerned about you."

He made an X with his left hand behind his back, even though he lied; he really had come to sound out the captain.

However, this was a white lie, and Hongqi wouldn't blame him.

Rong Zhaonan said expressionlessly, "You can leave now. I won't go back. I've gotten used to rural life, and I have a job too."

Chen Chen couldn't help but turn around and raise his voice: "That's impossible. What kind of life are you suited for? You're the sharpest knife. Are you going to spend your whole life in a ditch, worn down, just to be some damn village doctor here?"

"What's wrong with being a village doctor? Saving lives and healing the wounded is a normal profession, it's perfectly fine," Rong Zhaonan said casually.

Chen Chen trembled with anger: "All you can do is treat some external injuries. You only learned that from a field hospital doctor when you were saving your wounded brothers. You can't be a village doctor. This isn't your job!"

How can a dragon be trapped in shallow waters forever! Has the captain gone mad? He's wasting his talents as a village doctor!

"I'm not a dragon. These past few years have been enough for me to see clearly what I am." Rong Zhaonan gave a self-deprecating sneer, masking his obscure emotions.

Chen Chen looked at the wound that was faintly visible under his bangs on his forehead. If that wound were any lower, it could have taken one of the captain's eyes!

What kind of person is his captain? How many people in this world can hurt him, unless he himself is unwilling to fight back?

Chen Chen's eyes reddened with heartache, and he trembled as he reached out to touch the man's forehead: "Captain, Dongzi, Laoqiang, we all know you've suffered. It's all over now, everyone is waiting for you..."

When the captain was forced to retire, everyone was furious. Some even left, but they could never find any trace of the captain again.

"I'm married." Rong Zhaonan turned her head away from his hand, abruptly interrupting him.

Chen Chen was stunned, unable to process the word "marriage" in his mind.

“Wh...what…” he stammered.

What kind of woman is worthy of the captain?

And then there's marriage... Does marriage mean having a wife, kids, and a warm bed?

So... so you really don't want to go back to the battlefield and have lost your fighting spirit?

Chen Chen trembled all over, clutching his chest: "No...you must be lying to me! Which woman stole your virginity! You've lost your virginity! You were a virgin like me before you were sent down to the countryside...Aaaaaah!"

Before he could finish speaking, Rong Zhaonan punched him hard in the stomach twice, making him vomit bile and kneel on the ground.

"Don't force me to beat you up. Stop talking nonsense, it's disgusting." Rong Zhaonan rubbed his fist, his eyes filled with disgust and mockery.

Does this guy look like he's been cheated on by him and wants to die?

Chen Chen clutched his stomach, bent over, and vomited a mouthful of bile, but suddenly looked up, a fierce and smug smile on his face—

"Captain, you're lying... cough cough cough... If you were really willing to wallow in this ditch, why would you need to keep training and maintaining your peak physical fitness and skills?"

He misbehaved several times, provoking the captain to take action twice. He was unable to dodge either time, which shows that the captain has never slacked off in training!

Chen Chen got up and stared straight at Rong Zhaonan: "Don't lie to yourself, Rong Zhaonan, you are definitely not the kind of person who is content with shallow waters."

Rong Zhaonan narrowed his beautiful eyes and said dangerously, "Chen Chen, you used to be so simple-minded and naive. Now that you've replaced me as the captain, you've become more cunning."

Chen Chen smiled roguishly: "People grow, otherwise how would I keep those monkeys in the team in check? As long as you come back, I'll always be your soldier, and I'll only ever respect you!"

What does winning first place in the all-army competition mean? It's an honor that everyone looks up to, something that even the captain doesn't care whether he gets it or not.

Rong Zhaonan fell silent, then suddenly reached out his hand: "Do you have a cigarette?"

Chen Chen immediately pulled out a pack of Zhongnanhai cigarettes from his pocket and handed one over.

Then, he deftly took out a match, struck it, and lit it for Rong Zhaonan.

Rong Zhaonan held a cigarette between his long, slender fingers, took a lazy puff, and squinted his eyes: "I won't be going back for the time being."

The smoke blurred Rong Zhaonan's face, making it impossible for Chen Chen to see his expression for a moment.

However, Chen Chen keenly realized that Rong Zhaonan's words meant that he would not go back for the time being, rather than that he would never go back.

He immediately perked up: "No rush. This time, my identity is that of an inspection team member from Huining City, the capital of Southwest Province. I will be staying here for a while."

Rong Zhaonan adjusted the glasses on his high nose bridge and said indifferently, "Whatever you want."

Chen Chen was so excited he almost wanted to hug Rong Zhaonan and cry; he really wanted to hug his captain and spin him around.

But he didn't want to get beaten up anymore. The captain was still so ruthless, with ways to beat people to a pulp without actually hurting them.

Chen Chen nodded vigorously: "Okay, I'll go back and report on my work, then I'll come back to be with you. You can stay here as long as you want."

He'll get the captain back to Beijing eventually! He won't give up until he achieves his goal!

Rong Zhaonan sneered, his glasses reflecting a vicious, cold light: "Tell the old man for me that I'm not his watchdog, someone he can kick away whenever he wants. If he wants me to come back and bite people, he can bring me back. If he really wants me back, he'll show some sincerity."

Chen Chen froze, realizing he must be crazy to have dared to relay such a message to the top leader.
