Chapter 36 Who Seduced Whom?

Ning Yuan carried a basket of eggs back to the cowshed.

As they approached, they saw Rong Zhaonan shirtless, carrying well water to wash the cattle in the cattle pen one by one.

Water droplets slid down his strong shoulders and back muscles, accumulating in the dimples of his lower back.

In the twilight sunlight, the man's strong, sexy muscles seemed to shimmer with light as he moved, exuding explosive power.

Wild and alluring.

Ning Yuan paused, somewhat stunned. Oh, so a man's body can be this beautiful too.

As if he had eyes in the back of his head, Rong Zhaonan spoke calmly without turning his head: "What are you looking at?"

Ning Yuan quickly turned her flushed face away and coughed softly, "It's nothing, I just wanted to let you know that we can have stir-fried eggs with chives tonight!"

Rong Zhaonan turned his head and saw that she had turned her face away, but her neck was red.

He didn't expose her for staring at him intently from the moment she arrived.

He didn't like being stared at, but he didn't dislike the way Ning Yuan looked at him.

Rong Zhaonan walked over carrying a brush, glanced down at the basket of eggs in her hand, and asked, "You went to buy eggs?"

Ning Yuan didn't dare to look up at him and shook her head: "It was given to me by Sister Manhua."

She lowered her eyelids, but she could still see his well-defined abs and V-line, and for some reason, the image of him pressing down on her last night flashed through her mind.

Too close! Don't get so close! She can't stand seeing this!

She almost choked on her own saliva: "Cough cough cough... Well... I'll go cook first."

After saying that, she quickly turned around and went into the house.

Rong Zhaonan watched her fleeing figure, a slight smirk playing on his lips, a dark glint flashing in his eyes.

Seeing a man shirtless always makes me incredibly nervous; this little spy probably doesn't have much experience dealing with men.

He and Li Yan probably didn't have a very deep relationship.

This judgment made him lower his eyes, and the corners of his lips unconsciously curved into a slight smile.

Ning Yuan ran into the house, and her feverish face finally calmed down a bit.

She slapped her forehead, thinking to herself, "How pathetic."

She's been married before, so why is she acting like a clueless little girl, blushing at the sight of a boy's body?

She shook her head and quickly started washing her hands and cooking.

Within half an hour, stir-fried eggs with chives and two other vegetarian dishes were ready.

She even cooked a pot of plain rice for the first time!

Rong Zhaonan entered the house and saw a fragrant dish of stir-fried eggs with chives, two stir-fried greens with lard, and a small dish of stir-fried chili peppers and pickled cowpeas with lard to accompany rice.

As he wiped his sweat with a towel, he casually asked, "What, not stir-fried cured pork today? All vegetarian?"

He pickled the green beans himself, and Ning Yuan seemed to really like them.

Ning Yuan breathed a sigh of relief when she saw that he had already put on his work vest. She set out the bowl and chopsticks: "Eating cured meat all the time is not good. Smoked foods can easily cause cancer. Vegetables are also quite delicious."

These days, fresh green vegetables are tender and juicy, naturally sweet, pesticide-free, and taste delicious no matter how you stir-fry them.

In the past, I was reluctant to use oil when cooking anything. I would just take a brush, dip it in some lard or rapeseed oil, brush it in the pan, and then start cooking.

We now have several jars of wild boar oil at home, rendered with garlic and ginger, which makes stir-fries especially fragrant.

Not to mention that every meal consisted of either fish or meat.

If you open your mind, you won't go hungry.

She used to be so afraid of everything, even fishing, she was afraid of being accused of having her capitalist tail cut off and being negatively affected, and she was as hungry as a malnourished cabbage in the field.

Not having enough to eat is the real bad thing!

Rong Zhaonan paused in washing his hands, somewhat puzzled: "Carcinogenic? You mean cancer? Who said eating smoked meat is carcinogenic? That's a rare, incurable disease."

Ning Yuan paused for a moment, then suddenly remembered, "That's right, in the 70s and 80s, even the 90s, although everyone knew that cancer was a terrible terminal illness."

However, very few people get this disease.

Later, as living standards improved and material resources became more abundant, coupled with severe environmental pollution and the increase in food technology and grueling work, this disease became very common.

She sat down and coughed lightly to cover her mouth: "I heard this from the auntie at the health center before. Didn't I tell you that I live next to the health center and that the auntie likes me and often takes me to her workplace?"

In reality, these days, health clinics don't really care about cancer or anything like that, and even provincial hospitals probably can't treat more than a few cases.

But it should be fine, right? Rong Zhaonan is just an ordinary village doctor. He's only received a few days of barefoot doctor training and doesn't know much.

Rong Zhaonan looked at Ning Yuan, said nothing, and sat down as well, picking up his bowl and chopsticks: "Mm."

The little spy wasn't telling the truth. She knows too much; she's nothing like an ordinary girl. Ha.

Others might not see it, but he is full of flaws.

Seeing that Rong Zhaonan didn't press the matter, Ning Yuan felt a little uneasy for some reason, so she ate her meal in silence.

The two didn't say much.

After finishing her meal and putting down her chopsticks, Ning Yuan wiped her mouth and said, "You tidy up, I'm going to Grandpa Tang's place to bring them some eggs to help them recover."

She didn't know why she was a little afraid of being alone with him.

Watching Ning Yuan pick up her things and leave in a hurry, Rong Zhaonan frowned, a mysterious light flashing in his cold eyes.

She's avoiding him, what's she feeling guilty about? Maybe he should find another opportunity to test the waters.

...

Ning Yuan arrived at the mud-brick house where Old Tang and Grandma Xia lived.

It was still in the same half-collapsed state, and Grandma Xia was squatting hunched over in front of the wooden tub, washing the dishes with water.

Ning Yuan watched as she meticulously cleaned the two broken bowls and pot until they were spotless.

A thought struck her: she noticed that although Grandma Xia's clothes had many patches, they weren't actually dirty when she looked closely.

Moreover, the buttons on the collar of the old lady's clothes are very exquisite. They are a kind of complex button that is often used on very high-end handmade custom cheongsams.

She used to love cheongsams, so she had done some research on them.

"Hey, you brat, what are you doing standing there? What good stuff have you brought over? Let me see it!" Grandma Xia suddenly turned her head and stared at the basket in her hand, shouting.

Ning Yuan: "..."

She retracted her thought that Grandma Xia used to be a lady from a respectable family.

Ning Yuan carried the basket over and handed it to Grandma Xia: "I got some eggs, and I bought some brown sugar on my way to the county yesterday. I'm bringing it to Grandpa Tang to help him recover."

Grandma Xia immediately took it and excitedly dashed back into the room: "Old man, that brat brought eggs and brown sugar. I'll make you some brown sugar eggs in a bit!"

Ning Yuan: "..."

Every time she saw Grandma Xia's agile movements, she felt that the old lady had a bit of a weasel coming down from the mountain.
