Chapter 52 They Kissed Each Other ~~The Little Spy~~

Rong Zhaonan was completely unaware that his thoughts were wandering in strange and unpredictable directions.

Seeing the sudden chill emanating from him, Old Tang was a little puzzled: "You've been married for a few months now, haven't you? Can't you see what's in Xiaoyuan's heart..."

"I can't tell. Who knows what she's thinking? It's none of my business if she has a lover!" Rong Zhaonan coldly interrupted him.

Old Tang: "..."

The way you're acting doesn't seem like it's unrelated to you.

He thought for a moment with a sigh, then asked, "And Xiao Nan, what do you think? What do you think about her...?"

"I have no idea," Rong Zhaonan quickly interrupted Old Tang again.

He just wanted to find out the details of the little spy. Of course, if she was innocent, he wouldn't make things difficult for her!

Rong Zhaonan felt irritable and restless, so he got up and said, "I'll go sweep the yard. You go back to your room and sit down."

As he spoke, he got up and walked into the courtyard.

Old Tang looked at Rong Zhaonan's retreating figure, puzzled. How could this young man, as he spoke, suddenly sound so resentful?

It's as if he's the one who's being abandoned and divorced because his partner is going back to work in Beijing.

He shook his head. Forget it, forget it. It's not appropriate for the old folks to interfere in the affairs of young people.

Ning Yuan is a girl, and so considerate. He has never enjoyed the blessings of having children and grandchildren in his life, so he can only protect her more.

...

By the time Ning Yuan finished her homework and went home with Rong Zhaonan, it was almost ten o'clock.

She looked at Rong Zhaonan's back as he walked ahead, feeling a little strange. Why did this person seem to be surrounded by a low-pressure atmosphere?

What's wrong with this young man? Did he get bullied by the volunteers again today?

That shouldn't be the case. It must be because of the 13th National Congress of the Communist Party of China. The red armbands haven't been seen for more than a month now.

Could it be Old Master Tang? They whispered to each other twice in the courtyard. The first time, Old Master Tang looked displeased, and the second time, it was him who looked displeased.

It wasn't until they returned to the cowshed that she cautiously spoke up: "Hey, Rong Zhaonan, Granny Xia asked me to take her antique bowl to the county to exchange for money next time. I'm a little worried. What if someone keeps an eye on me? Do you think I should disguise myself?"

She got caught red-handed selling meat last time, so this time she'll have to be more cautious about selling antiques and ask the bigwigs for their opinions.

Rong Zhaonan picked up the washbasin without any expression, grabbed the soap, and prepared to take a shower: "When you go, pay attention to whether there are any similar people circling around you."

He frowned slightly: "On the way back, I'll have Chen Chen keep an eye on you, so that if you really encounter danger, you won't drag me down with you."

Seeing that he was in a bad mood, Ning Yuan went out to take a shower with a cold aura around her, and didn't retort to him.

"Ugh, I hate people with unstable emotions the most." She grumbled and went to boil water for a bath.

When Ning Yuan finished washing up and got into bed, she found Rong Zhaonan sitting cross-legged with his eyes closed, leaning against the window, his hands clasped together on his knees.

Ning Yuan looked puzzled: "?"

What is this person doing?

She asked in bewilderment, "Aren't you going to sleep? You shouldn't be going hunting in the mountains tonight, right?"

Rong Zhaonan closed his eyes, expressionless: "I'm not sleeping. I'm a celestial being who cultivates Marxist philosophy."

Ning Yuan: "..."

This guy was saying this morning that we shouldn't be superstitious, but tonight he's started practicing Marxist-style immortality cultivation?

Could he really have irregular menstruation?

Ning Yuan was amused by her own thoughts and held back her laughter without saying anything.

She blew out the light, climbed into bed, and coughed lightly, "Well, take your time fixing it, I'm going to sleep now."

Rong Zhaonan ignored her, keeping his eyes down and his mind at ease.

Ning Yuan lay down, and the moonlight outside the window shone through the paper window, casting a hazy silver glow on the handsome figure beside her.

She could still vaguely see Rong Zhaonan's tall figure sitting there, facing her, as if he were staring at her intently.

Ning Yuan lay stiffly on the bed, awkwardly pulled her blanket up, turned her back, and slept a little further to the side of the bed.

Otherwise, it would be strange, like him watching her sleep.

Before long, she couldn't hold on any longer, and her eyelids started to droop. After all, she had worked hard all day and studied for several hours that night.

Just as she was about to drift off to sleep, she suddenly felt the person behind her speak coldly: "Tomorrow, let's sleep in separate beds."

Ning Yuan mumbled sleepily, "Mmm..."

After a while, she realized what he had said, suddenly snapped out of it, and turned to look at Rong Zhaonan: "Huh? What's wrong?"

Rong Zhaonan watched her sit up and said coldly, "Didn't you plan to go back to the city and get a divorce? Before, we were short of money and had no choice but to sleep in one bed. Now that we're a little better off, we can have a carpenter make two beds."

As soon as she lay down today, she went to sleep on the edge of the bed, afraid that he would take advantage of her in any way.

For whom is she keeping herself chaste?

Ning Yuan stared at him blankly: "That makes sense. The red armband-wearing men haven't bothered you anymore, so you don't really need to pretend to be poor anymore, but..."

When Rong Zhaonan heard that she didn't object and even said, "That makes sense," his coldness intensified.

He suddenly got up, jumped off the bed, put on his shoes, pulled a machete from under the bed, and walked out the door.

Ning Yuan was shocked: "Where are you going?"

Rong Zhaonan: "Hunting."

He uttered two words and slammed the door shut as he left.

Ning Yuan stared at the dust falling from the door frame, speechless for a moment.

What triggered him to suddenly remember this? He made a scene in the middle of the night demanding to sleep in separate beds and even stormed off to go hunting.

Is this some kind of madman practicing Marxist philosophy? Superstition is indeed unacceptable!

Ning Yuan sat on the bed, hugging the blanket, scratching her messy braids, looking puzzled.

Forget it, I'm not going to think about things I can't figure out. Getting some sleep is more important; I have to go to work tomorrow morning.

Not everyone is like Rong Zhaonan, a monster who can hunt at night and work hard during the day.

Ning Yuan hugged the blanket and simply lay down, continuing to snore loudly.

...

Rong Zhaonan went out the door and into the mountains.

That night, all the birds and beasts in the mountains were in trouble, being chased and fighting in a chaotic manner.

Especially those beasts who frequented the place in pairs were all "broken up".

When Rong Zhaonan came down the mountain with a string of pheasants and rabbits in his left hand and a knocked-out wolf in his right, the birds and beasts in the entire Daqingshan Mountain finally breathed a sigh of relief.

Rong Zhaonan sat at the foot of the mountain, threw his prey and machete to the ground, and picked a handful of mint leaves to chew.

When he was training as a sniper, he would lie in wait for days and nights, and he got into the habit of picking some leaves to chew on to stay awake.

Besides, he's been sleeping in the same bed with Ning Yuan lately, and he's been a bit hot-tempered. After all, he's in his twenties, and it's easy to act impulsively when there's a girl lying next to him.

He calmed himself down and decided that separate beds were fine; he couldn't let the little spy lead him astray.

After spending half a day mentally preparing himself, Rong Zhaonan brought his prey back to the cowshed before dawn and took a cold shower.

He dried his hair and went back into the room. In the dim light, he saw Ning Yuan lying on the bed, wrapped in a blanket, fast asleep.

Rong Zhaonan's temper flared up again after he had calmed down for half the night—that heartless little spy!

He was the only one whose mood was affected that night.

He walked over with a cold face and half-squatted beside her bed. Suddenly, he leaned down close to her and said through gritted teeth, "Get up! If you don't get up, you'll lose work points!!"

That'll scare her to death!

“Yes!” Ning Yuan sat up abruptly.

Unexpectedly, someone leaned down in front of him, and they bumped into each other face to face, letting out a muffled cry of pain: "Ah—!"

Her lips met his.

Rong Zhaonan's pupils contracted slightly: "..."

Ning Yuan stared at him blankly, her soft lips still resting on his thin lips.
