“You’ve done so much, and you ask me what I want? I don’t want anything!” Chu Hongyu also stood up and looked directly into her eyes.
Then--
"—Smack!"
A crisp, sharp slap rang out in the silent interrogation room. Lu Jingui was knocked to the side, and blood immediately seeped from the corner of his mouth.
Chu Hongyu withdrew her hand, which had hurt from the slap, and looked at her coldly: "I just wanted to slap you! Who do you think you are? What do you think you are? What right do you have to trample on other people's lives?"
"What gives you the right to spread rumors, slander, and frame good people for your own 'progress'?"
Chu Hongyu laughed angrily, "You keep saying you're an excellent person, but what one of the things you've done is like something an excellent person would do?"
Lu Jingui covered her slapped face, glaring venomously at Chu Hongyu. Suddenly, as if remembering something, a strange smile curled at the corner of her lips:
"Chu Hongyu, you won't be smug for long! You think you're any better than me? Stealing my resources? Besides that face, Ning Bingyu wouldn't even look at you, because you're nothing but a stupid, used slut played with by men! You're much dumber than me..."
"Shut up! I never stole anything from you, you vicious scum!" Chu Hongyu suddenly stood up, her charming eyes filled with anger, and interrupted her sharply.
Seeing her angry expression, Lu Jingui laughed even more wildly:
"What? Did I say something wrong? You dare say you weren't stupid enough to have been played by a man? You dare say you..."
"Slap!" Chu Hongyu could no longer bear it and raised her hand to slap him again.
Lu Jingui had never been beaten like this in his life. His face trembled with anger, and he was about to rush over and tear Chu Hongyu apart, no longer caring about her so-called dignity.
"Enough!"
A deep voice sounded at the doorway.
"What are you doing?" Ying Gang strode in, pulled Chu Hongyu away, and frowned even more as he looked at the scratches on Lu Jingui's face and the bloodstains at the corner of his mouth.
"Captain Ying, she started it!" Lu Jingui pointed at Chu Hongyu and said angrily, "She hit me! Look, my face is all swollen from her beating!"
Ying Gang gave Lu Jingui a cold glance and said in a deep voice:
"This isn't a market, you can't throw a tantrum here! Chu Hongyu, come out with me for a moment!"
With that, he turned and left. Chu Hongyu took a deep breath, calmed herself down, and followed him.
"Captain Ying, you can't take her away! She's the one who hit someone! You should arrest her!" Lu Jingui shouted loudly upon seeing this.
Ying Gang paused, turned to look at Lu Jingui, and a cold smile curled at the corner of his lips:
"Don't worry, none of those who should be arrested will escape!"
After saying that, he ignored Lu Jingui's clamor and led Chu Hongyu out of the interrogation room without looking back.
As Lu Jingui watched the two figures depart, a glint of resentment flashed in his eyes.
Chu Hongyu, you're using that sly fox face of yours to seduce people again!
...
Ying Gang brought Chu Hongyu back to his office, had her sit on a stool, poured her a glass of water, then sat down opposite her, looked at her, and said helplessly:
"Chu Hongyu, you can't hit someone in the police station!"
Chu Hongyu took the water glass, took a sip to calm herself down, and then told Ying Gang the whole story in detail.
After listening to her story, Ying Gang remained silent for a moment, then sighed and said:
"Chu Hongyu, I know you feel wronged, but you need to calm down. You need to believe in the law, believe that we will clear your father's name, and believe that the bad guy will be punished."
Chu Hongyu took a deep breath, trying to suppress the surging emotions in her heart. Meeting Ying Gang's worried gaze, she said softly with a self-deprecating smile, "Captain Ying, you're right. I was too impulsive. I promise it won't happen again."
Seeing that her eyes were still red, Ying Gang knew she was upset and couldn't bear to scold her anymore. He simply patted her shoulder gently, his tone much softer.
Chu Hongyu nodded slightly, but at that moment, her stomach growled at an inopportune moment.
She was immediately embarrassed; she hadn't eaten dinner... no, she hadn't even eaten lunch because of this whole drama...
Seeing her embarrassed expression, Ying Gang pretended not to hear, glanced at his watch, and realized it was almost seven o'clock.
He then said to Chu Hongyu, "Let's go eat first, and we can talk about it after we finish eating."
Ying Gang took Chu Hongyu to the police station's canteen, where he got her a braised pork rice bowl and ordered a bowl of minced meat noodles for himself.
Chu Hongyu glanced around; although it was the company cafeteria, the food looked pretty good.
"What, you don't like the food in our cafeteria?" Ying Gang couldn't help but tease her when he saw her staring blankly at the food.
"No!" Chu Hongyu came back to her senses, smiled, and explained, "I was just thinking that you're so busy with work, and I'm making you work overtime until so late. Next time, I'll treat you to a meal out."
Ying Gang smiled, his tone somewhat indifferent: "There's nothing we can do. We're the people's police, it's our duty."
The two sat facing each other, chatting casually about everything from work to life, from ideals to the future, and the atmosphere gradually became relaxed.
Ying Gang discovered that he had initially thought this girl was a pampered young lady from a petit-bourgeois family, who would be spoiled and difficult to please. However, he was surprised to find that she was quite easy to get along with and spoke with substance.
Chu Hongyu also discovered that although Ying Gang appeared somewhat serious, he was kind-hearted and had a strong sense of justice, making him a friend worth getting to know better.
After the two finished their meal, they were about to leave the cafeteria when two figures appeared at the entrance. It was Ning Yuan and Ning Bingyu.
Ning Yuan spotted Chu Hongyu immediately and quickly pulled Ning Bingyu over.
“Hongyu!” Ning Yuan looked her up and down.
Seeing that she was not injured except for being a little pale, he was relieved.
Ning Yuan looked at Ying Gang and handed him the file folder that Rong Zhaonan had given her: "Brother Gang, this contains Lu Jingui's personal information and some witness contact information. See if it will be helpful for the case."
Ying Gang took the file folder, opened it, and glanced through it briefly: "Captain Rong's stuff is definitely useful. I'll keep it for now!"
He glanced at the time, smiled at Chu Hongyu, and said, "It's getting late, I have something to do, so I'll be going now. Let's keep in touch, and next time we'll go eat at that yellow croaker noodle shop you mentioned!"
Chu Hongyu smiled and said, "Okay!"
Ning Bingyu watched Ying Gang's departing figure, then glanced at Chu Hongyu, who was talking to Ning Yuan. He raised an eyebrow and suddenly asked, "Is this Miss Chu's new boyfriend?"
