“That happened so many years ago!” Ning Manfei said impatiently.
"You want to go back and cause trouble? To cause trouble for your little sister?" Ning Man'an finally looked up and stared at her coldly.
"I was just helping you because you couldn't stand her!" Ning Manfei said angrily, her face cold.
"Think about it, that guy A-Yu was impeached by the board of directors before, and he almost lost his job!"
She slammed a wine glass on the table: "If it weren't for Ning Yuan and my second aunt's interference on the mainland, would he have been able to get away so easily? In the end, it's our eldest son's family who suffered! I'm just helping you get revenge!"
Ning Man'an's secretary came over and handed her a document. "President Ning, this is the information for the auction at the end of the month. Please take a look."
"Hmm." Ning Man'an took the documents and flipped through them casually. "That jade bracelet and ruby earrings are nice. Take a picture of them and give them to my little sister."
"What?!" Ning Manfei almost jumped up: "Why buy such expensive things for that kind of northern girl? Does she deserve it?"
Ning Man'an put down the documents in her hand and glanced indifferently at her sister—
"Are you standing up for me? Ning Manfei, what exactly are you angry about? I, as your older sister, haven't even said anything yet, and you're already taking my side?"
She paused, then scoffed—
"You think you can hide your little schemes from anyone? My second aunt has already told me that you've been causing trouble for her for two days in a row. You're just trying to vent your anger, aren't you?"
"I...I was just worried about you!" Ning Manfei felt uneasy under her gaze, and her momentum immediately diminished. She dared not say anything more.
Ningman gently put down the documents in her hand.
She gracefully crossed her legs, leaned slightly forward, and stared sharply at Ning Manfei, as if trying to see right through her—
“Manfei, I advise you to stop those underhanded tricks as soon as possible. It’s a small matter that you’re instigating Angela and the others to look down on your little sister. Even if the old man doesn’t care, your second aunt will.”
Ning Manfei snorted coldly and said unconvinced, "Angela's mother was the old man's benefactor who saved him back then. The old man values loyalty the most, and he would never expel Angela for a newly adopted northern girl."
Ning Manan casually picked up her coffee and took a sip, her tone indifferent: "Yes, the old master won't fire Angela, but Second Aunt can make Angela uncomfortable. You can't be unaware of that, can you?"
She put down her coffee cup, her tone still calm, yet tinged with sarcasm—
"Don't forget, Second Aunt is the mistress of this house. If things really get out of hand, do you think the old master will embarrass his daughter-in-law and granddaughter, or will he keep Angela but fire a group of people who follow Angela as a warning to others to appease Second Aunt?"
"Eldest sister, I am..." Ning Manfei was speechless. Of course she knew that many of the servants in the Ning family's old mansion were from their eldest branch of the family.
After Auntie took over the Ning family, only a small group of people who followed Angela were the old folks from when Mommy was alive. The rest were all Auntie's people.
If the eldest son of the family in the old house is expelled, their influence in the Ning family will be further weakened.
Ning Man'an interrupted her directly: "You're not a child anymore. Can't you think before you act? Let me tell you, Ning Manfei, don't kill eight hundred enemies while losing fifteen thousand of your own. If you really care about the eldest son's family, then behave yourself."
She stood up and looked down at Ning Manfei: "Also, the struggle between me and A Yu for the succession is our business. Don't interfere and make things worse! Your little bit of cleverness is just good for talking!"
Ning Manfei wanted to say something, but Ning Man'an's sharp gaze made her swallow her words.
Ning Man'an's tone and expression carried an undeniable authority: "If things get serious, you'll only ruin things! I'm warning you, if I find out you're up to no good again, don't blame me for being ruthless!"
Ning Manfei's face turned pale and then red. She bit her lip, daring not to speak out in anger.
Ning Man'an ignored her and turned to leave the living room, leaving Ning Manfei alone on the sofa, gritting her teeth, yet helpless.
...
For a whole week, Ning Yuan was dragged around the Hong Kong government building by Ning Bingchao every morning when she woke up.
From luxury stores to scenic spots, from Prince's Mansion to Victoria Peak, she felt like her legs were about to break – even if she traveled around in a sports car, she still had to walk, and she still had to climb mountains!
Ning Bingchao called it "cultivating feelings," but Ning Yuan couldn't help but think to herself, "This isn't cultivating feelings; it's clearly just playing with me!"
That evening, she returned to the old house, rubbing her sore calves.
As soon as she stepped into the living room, she saw Ning Bingyu sitting on the sofa. When he saw her return, he simply said, "Come with me, your uncle wants to see you."
Ning Yuan raised an eyebrow slightly and followed behind him.
Well, the person in power is finally going to see her.
Upon entering the study, Ning Yuan discovered that there were two other people inside.
One was Ning Zhengkun sitting behind a European-style desk, and the other was a young man sitting on a sofa, leisurely flipping through a book.
"Ah Yuan, this is your uncle, Ning Zhengkun," Ning Bingyu introduced casually.
Ning Zhengkun was tall and imposing, with a sharp and profound air about him that exuded an air of authority, as if he could see through everything, just like the old master.
Ning Yuan instantly understood why Ning Zhengkun had become the head of the family in this generation.
This is clearly a carbon copy of Old Master Ning, decisive and ruthless, with an imposing presence even without anger.
Ning Bingyu, rather than being Ning Zhengrong's son, was raised more like Ning Zhengkun and his grandfather.
He has a refined appearance, but a ruthless streak is hidden in his bones; Ning Bingyu is just younger.
Ning Zhengkun's sharp gaze swept over Ning Yuan from head to toe, like an eagle scrutinizing its prey. Ning Yuan's heart skipped a beat, and she subconsciously became vigilant and on guard.
But she maintained a polite and courteous demeanor, saying, "Uncle."
"Hmm." Ning Zhengkun nodded slightly in response.
Ning Bingyu then pointed to another man sitting next to Ning Zhengkun and introduced him: "This is... your third cousin, Ning Bing'an. You can call him Brother An."
Ning Yuan was slightly taken aback. Ning Bing'an?
Ning Bing'an, sitting on the sofa, seemed out of place in this very European-style study.
His plain blue Tang suit made him look even more aloof and otherworldly, like a banished immortal who had stepped out of an ancient painting.
If Rong Zhaonan is the kind of handsome that is stunning at first glance, then Ning Bing'an is the kind of handsome that grows on you, and he has an indescribable charm.
Noticing Ning Yuan's gaze, Ning Bing'an slightly raised his eyes.
He had a pair of narrow, phoenix-shaped eyes with slightly upturned corners, exuding a nonchalant and lazy air, like a watercolor painting, with red lips and white teeth.
But he is also unfathomable, making it impossible for people to see through his true emotions.
Ning Yuan smiled and greeted him generously, "Brother An."
Ning Bing'an, as an adopted son with no blood relation, wanted to avoid being confused with Ning Bingchao, the real third young master.
The fact that she was only allowed to call him Brother An shows that even though Ning Bing'an was favored by his uncle, his position in the Ning family was quite awkward.
Ning Bing'an nodded slightly as a greeting, then continued reading his book, seemingly indifferent to Ning Yuan's arrival.
Ning Yuan was somewhat embarrassed by his attitude and didn't know what to say for a moment.
Ning Zhengkun looked at Ning Yuan and said calmly, "Xiao Yuan, sit down. You've been back for over a week. Your uncle has been too busy with work and took your two brothers to England again, so this is our first meeting. I hope you won't mind."
Ning Yuan's heart stirred slightly. Chairman Ning and her elder brother Ning Bingyu were both very busy people, decisive and ruthless, and completely goal-oriented.
There's no time or inclination in the US to consider the feelings of a nobody like her, or even to explain their own itinerary.
Is Ning Zhengkun setting the stage here because he probably wants her to do something?
