Chapter 691 Killing Two Birds with One Stone (Part 1)

What Rong Zhaonan saw was this scene—

Ning Yuan was behind Ning Bing'an, one hand tightly gripping Ning Bing'an's tie, the other arm still holding his neck, looking over with a wary expression.

Ning Bing'an's handsome face flushed red, his eyes rolled back, and he was about to be strangled to death by this little miss: "Cough cough cough..."

He coughed a few times with difficulty, unable to utter a complete sentence.

Rong Zhaonan was both amused and annoyed, and immediately said, "Ning Yuan, do you want to strangle him? He's not a criminal!!"

Ning Yuan then realized what she was doing and looked down.

Holy crap! In her nervousness, her movements became distorted, turning a rescue attempt into a murderous one!

She immediately let go, coughed awkwardly, then pretended to pat Ning Bing'an's chest to help him catch his breath, and asked softly:

"Brother Bing'an, are you alright? I just... cough cough, I was trying to save you, afraid you'd get hurt..."

Ning Bing'an's narrow, clear eyes were filled with tears. He was coughing and desperately breathing in fresh air, so he had no time to pay attention to her.

Rong Zhaonan looked at him with a half-smile: "Seventh Miss, if I didn't know you, I would really think you were an assassin sent to kill Young Master Bing'an!"

For some reason, seeing Ning Bing'an in such a sorry state because of Ning Yuan made him feel better.

Ning Yuan pouted and muttered under her breath, "I'm not that violent. I was just trying to save him! He was just lying there like an idiot. If I hadn't pulled him down, he'd probably be riddled with bullets by now! He's so slow to react!"

Rong Zhaonan noticed that Ning Bing'an's complexion had improved slightly, and that her hand was still haphazardly touching and patting Ning Bing'an's chest.

A strange glint flashed in his eyes, and he simply pulled Ning Yuan out from under the table: "Stop filming, come out first."

Ning Yuan stood up with the help of Rong Zhaonan's grip and immediately saw the chaotic surroundings. The banquet hall was a mess, as if it had been ravaged by a tornado.

The air was thick with the nauseating smell of blood, and she couldn't help but frown: "Are these people terrorists?"

Upon hearing this, Rong Zhaonan's sharp gaze lingered on her face for a second, seemingly somewhat surprised that she used the word "terrorist."

"Terrorists? What are those?"

Ning Yuan then realized that the term "terrorist" was not popular at the time, and people in the 1980s had no concept of it.

As she explained, she frowned and scanned her surroundings: "They are the kind of ruthless villains who completely disregard innocent civilians and even resort to suicide attacks!"

Rong Zhaonan stopped dwelling on Ning Yuan's statement. He walked to the glass that the waiter had broken earlier and picked up a shard.

He carefully blew the cigarette lightly in front of his nose a few times, then narrowed his eyes and said in a calm tone, "It smells like bitter almonds. It's cyanide, highly poisonous, and will kill on contact with blood."

He withdrew his gaze and looked at Ning Bing'an, who was still somewhat shaken as he crawled up from under the table, his tone indifferent—

"I don't know if those people are terrorists, but they're definitely after you."

Ning Bing'an's previously composed expression changed slightly. He had heard of cyanide and knew it was highly poisonous, causing immediate death upon contact.

Upon hearing this, Ning Bing'an's handsome face turned cold and his brows furrowed, clearly unable to understand the reason behind it.

He remained silent for a moment before slowly speaking, "I am just an adopted son, not like my elder brother who is the future heir of the Ning family. Why would anyone want to kill me?"

Rong Zhaonan observed Ning Bing'an's expression discreetly, seemingly trying to determine the truthfulness of his words.

Ning Yuan also found it strange. Logically speaking, Ning Bing'an was just an adopted son of the Ning family, although he had always been deeply loved by Chairman Ning Zhengkun.

But he had no status in the Ning Group, so how could he have gotten himself into such a deadly predicament?

“Perhaps they weren’t after Young Master Bing’an,” Rong Zhaonan casually tossed the shards of glass on the ground, making a crisp sound.

He looked at Ning Yuan: "Perhaps they're here for the Ning family."

His tone was indifferent, yet it stirred up a thousand waves in the hearts of Ning Yuan and Ning Bing'an like a pebble.

Several possibilities flashed through Ning Yuan's mind. She looked at Rong Zhaonan calmly and asked, "Do you know something?"

Upon hearing this, Ning Bing'an also turned to look at Rong Zhaonan, a sharp chill flashing in his eyes.

Ning Bing'an is certainly not stupid. On the contrary, he is quite capable of growing up in a wealthy family like the Ning family, which is known for its ruthless and exploitative nature.

He still managed to gain some genuine favor from Ning Zhengkun. If he really didn't have any brains, he would have been devoured to the bone long ago.

He subconsciously looked at the shards of champagne glasses on the ground, and the image of the waiter carrying champagne towards him suddenly flashed into his mind.

The other party had a clear target and came straight for him without the slightest hesitation or doubt, handing him the champagne on the tray.

Ning Yuan naturally wouldn't try to "steal" the champagne in front of him.

Thinking of this, Ning Bing'an's already pale face instantly became even more ashen, and a chilling glint flashed in his eyes.

"Does the other party want to kill me and then frame Ning Yuan, or rather, frame the second wife, to incite a conflict between the first and second wives?"

Ning Bing'an looked at Rong Zhaonan and said, word by word, his tone as cold as if it had been tempered with ice.

"It seems that Young Master Bing'an isn't stupid after all," Rong Zhaonan said calmly, acknowledging his guess.

Ning Yuan seemed to be deep in thought. If she stirred up a fight between the first and second wives, who would benefit from it?

Ning Yuan rubbed her temples, feeling utterly overwhelmed.

"Does Cha Shenlou still have the ability to extend its reach here?" she muttered to herself.

A cold glint flashed deep in Rong Zhaonan's eyes as he said calmly—

"Cha Shenlou is certainly one of the least willing to see the Ning family prosper, but he's like a rat in the street now, what trouble can he possibly cause?"

That old fox Cha Shenlou is now hiding among the thousands of fishing boats in the Aberdeen Typhoon Shelter; you can't find a trace of him.

“That’s not necessarily true,” Ning Yuan shook her head. “Don’t forget, even a starved camel is bigger than a horse. Although the Cha family has declined in recent years, its foundation is still there, and besides…”
