Rong Zhaonan instantly sensed something; his years of battlefield experience allowed him to keenly detect a hint of danger.
He turned his head and saw that the warship's cannons had slowly turned, the dark muzzles radiating a chilling killing intent, pointing directly in his direction!
His face darkened. The Hong Kong government's coastline was too close to the high seas, only thirty nautical miles away. Although they were still several nautical miles from the high seas, the other party was clearly trying to play it safe and resort to dirty tricks!
Rong Zhaonan frowned, grabbed Cha Shenlou by the collar, and nimbly leaped upwards again like he was carrying a chick, causing the helicopter to sway from the weight of him and Cha Shenlou.
But almost at the same time, on the bridge of the warship, the captain coldly ordered his subordinates: "Fire! Target: the sea!"
“Sir…they’re still in the waters off Hong Kong!” A young communications soldier hesitated.
"Do as I say! If anything goes wrong, I'll take responsibility!" the captain coldly interrupted him.
The communications soldier dared not say anything more and immediately relayed the order—"Gunners in position, fire control locked—!"
A series of instructions were given, and a moment later—
"Boom!" A shell, accompanied by a piercing whistle, hurtled straight toward the sea where Rong Zhaonan and Cha Shenlou were located!
Chen Chen abruptly turned his head and shouted at the top of his lungs, "Pull up! Pull up! Quickly increase the flight altitude!"
Cold sweat poured down the pilot's forehead. He gripped the control stick tightly, struggling to control the helicopter's altitude and try to escape the attack range.
"boom--"
A huge column of water burst open on the sea surface, and the helicopter was violently shaken by the shockwave.
Chen Chen and the others clung tightly to nearby fixed objects to avoid being thrown off.
Chaos erupted inside the cabin, but the pilot was thrown off balance by the immense impact, his head slamming into the fuselage and knocking him unconscious. As soon as he let go, the control stick went out of control.
The helicopter began to sway precariously in the gale, like a falling leaf.
"Damn it, those bastards who used dirty tricks!" Chen Chen cursed angrily, rushing towards the cockpit without regard for anything else, shoving aside the pilot who had been stunned, and grabbing the control stick with both hands.
He had learned to fly attack helicopters, and although he had never piloted this imported model, the basic flying principles were similar.
Chen Chen gritted his teeth and strained with both hands, trying to control the teetering plane.
The plane struggled in the air for a few moments before finally stabilizing, but the cabin was a complete mess.
Chen Chen immediately looked down. Rong Zhaonan's mask had been blown off by the wave, and he was so shocked by the shockwave that he spat out a mouthful of blood. But he still held on tightly to Cha Shenlou and did not let go.
"Cough cough..."
"Hold on, Captain, I'll take you away!" Chen Chen roared, desperately trying to pull the helicopter around.
Rong Zhaonan felt as if his internal organs had shifted, and the intense pain made it almost impossible for him to breathe. However, he still clung tightly to Cha Shenlou to prevent him from falling and continued to struggle upwards.
"Faster! Faster!" Chen Chen shouted hoarsely, large beads of sweat rolling down his forehead.
On the warship, the captain put down his satellite phone and said coldly to Aunt Shu on the other end of the line, "Missed it. Those mainland soldiers are a bit troublesome."
The voice on the other end of the phone was dry, cold, and shrill, as chilling as an owl's—
"Keep firing! As long as it's not a direct hit and there are no signs of the plane being attacked by artillery, they crashed accidentally. What does it have to do with us? Besides, they're just Hong Kong government special police. As long as Governor Richard doesn't pursue the matter, everything will be fine."
The captain laughed as he listened: "That's true. They are the kings of land warfare, but they are too poor and lack technology. They have very few warships and planes, and no aircraft carriers. What can they use to fight us? What's the point of shooting them down? Besides, those are British Hong Kong planes."
Aunt Shu said coldly, "Yes, since we can't get their 'freight' routes, let's teach them a lesson while we're at it!"
"Wait for my news, madam!" A ruthless glint flashed in the captain's eyes.
He knew that this game had gone beyond the boundaries of the rules.
But so what?
This world has always been a dog-eat-dog world, where the victor reigns supreme and the loser is condemned!
This is a contest outside the rules! Truth lies only within the range of cannons! Dignity lies only on the edge of a sword!
"Prepare to fire again!" he ordered, a cold glint in his eyes. "Target: the sea!"
"Boom! Boom!"
The continuous explosions of artillery shells behind them, each one like the tolling of death's bell, made their eardrums buzz.
The airflow caused the helicopter to shake violently, and the alarm bells blared wildly inside the cabin.
The helicopter struggled through the gunfire, like a small boat in a storm, always on the verge of being swallowed by the giant waves.
"Captain! How are you? Hold on!" Chen Chen shouted anxiously, but all he got in response was the deafening roar of artillery fire and the howling wind.
Rong Zhaonan looked down at the turbulent sea below, while the rope ladder connecting him to his hope of survival swayed precariously in the gale.
Looking at the teetering helicopter and the faces on board contorted with worry.
Rong Zhaonan's gaze fell on Chen Chen's bloodshot eyes—Never abandon, never give up!
That was their promise to their comrades!
But... if this continues, everyone will perish here.
Rong Zhaonan suddenly calmly reached out and pulled the scarf from his neck.
It was during the Spring Festival when they first met. Ning Yuan knitted it for him with soft wool yarn, as if it always carried the warmth of her hands, soft and warm.
He closed his eyes, took a deep breath, and buried that sweet memory deep in his heart.
...
I'm sorry, I have to return it to you!
I'm not coming back. You should find a good man to marry!
If I come back alive, I'll still look for you, my wife!
When he opened his eyes again, he deftly tied the scarf and the small bag he had just taken from Cha Shenlou to the rope ladder with one hand.
Although we don't know what's inside, it might be helpful for the investigation!
Rong Zhaonan raised his head, his once handsome face now covered in blood.
The seawater and blood mingled together, making him look like a demon crawling out of hell. Only his eyes remained sharp as a hawk's, carrying an undeniable determination.
He licked the blood from the corner of his lips, and silently mouthed the words to Chen Chen and his teammates—
"Comrades, keep moving forward!!"
Then, the next second, he grinned, suddenly let go, and plunged into the turbulent sea with Cha Shenlou.
"Thump—!"
"No—Captain!!" Chen Chen let out a heart-wrenching roar, tears blurring his vision.
