Ning Yuan's gaze was as deep as two ancient wells, low-pressure yet extremely cold.
Cha Meiling, however, seemed oblivious to Ning Yuan's expression. She stepped forward, took the jewelry box from Zhou Yan, walked up to Ning Yuan, and handed it to her, saying, "Little sister, this is a complete set of pure gold baby jewelry. Congratulations on the birth of your precious daughter."
Ning Yuan didn't answer, her gaze sharp and cold.
Cha Meiling sighed softly, a cryptic smile on her face: "Surprised? I was just as surprised as you were when I first met Zhou Yan."
She paused, then sighed softly, "He and Rong Sir look so alike, they're practically identical. Later, I found out they were twin brothers."
Ning Yuan stared at Cha Meiling's elegant and smug smiling face, her fingers tightening slightly.
She had never been interested in this woman, but now she didn't even bother to feign interest in her.
Ning Yuan spoke coldly, her eyes growing increasingly piercing: "What a small world. I didn't expect that Mr. Zhou and Miss Annie would know each other. It seems that the Hong Kong government is truly a fascinating place."
Zhou Yan put his hands in his pockets and smiled, "Hong Kong has always been a unique place, suitable for all kinds of people to 'meet' freely."
Cha Meiling affectionately took Zhou Yan's arm: "That's why I couldn't believe it when I first saw Zhou Yan. Rong Sir's brother? It's a match made in heaven. Even Uncle Evan exclaimed that fate is wonderful."
Upon hearing this, Ning Yuan raised an eyebrow: "Uncle Evan?"
She chuckled lightly: "So Miss Anne has dealings with the Commissioner of Police. I've really learned something new."
Cha Mei-ling chuckled softly, her voice gentle: "It's nothing. Don't forget, my younger sister and I are different. I grew up in a prominent family in Hong Kong... Uncle Evan has known me for a long time. Last time he went back to England for work, I happened to be there to relax, and he introduced us. Now, we're practically sisters-in-law."
Ning Yuan smiled and said, "The Cha family has fallen so low. Even a fallen phoenix is no better than a chicken. It's rare that Chief Evan isn't a snob."
You like to show off your sarcasm skills, huh? She's really giving this idiot a hard time!
Hearing that she had been called a "chicken," Cha Meiling's expression instantly lost its gentleness: "Ning Yuanhuan, your words are too awful..."
The Cha family has always been a source of pain for her.
She was clearly the most radiant socialite in Hong Kong...
Ning Yuan curled her lips slightly, her gaze cold and contemptuous as she looked her up and down: "Is this what you call unpleasant? Annie, I'm just telling the truth. Your father is a brainless idiot. Like father, like son. You're probably going to follow in your father's footsteps and become an idiot too, or even a super idiot who surpasses his father?"
I'm so damn annoyed by these upper-class people. They secretly wish they could stuff shit into each other's mouths and chop each other into mincemeat, but they still have to put on a smiling, brotherly face!
Although Cha Mei-ling didn't know what "idiot" meant, she knew it was definitely a very offensive personal attack!
The elegant smile on her face could no longer be maintained, replaced by an ugly, ashen color. Her chest heaved violently, clearly burning with rage.
She instinctively turned to look at Zhou Yan, seeking comfort and support.
Zhou Yan, however, had a smirk on his face, watching the spectacle unfold. When she looked over, he put his hands in his pockets and raised an eyebrow teasingly: "What's wrong?"
Cha Meiling's face instantly turned ugly: "Zhou Yan!"
Seeing this, Ning Yuan sneered without any politeness: "This is the man you chose? What a complete idiot!"
After saying that, she took the gift box directly from Cha Meiling's hand, her tone cold: "Also, we are not sisters-in-law. My husband did not say that he has any disgusting brothers. I accept the gift. I like gold the most. You two may leave now."
Is giving yourself these gifts a way of showing off and trying to humiliate you?
She didn't find gold disgusting, but she knew that if she took the gold away without any politeness, Cha Meiling would be furious.
Cha Meiling's face turned extremely pale, alternating between ashen and white. She seemed to want to say something, but before she could utter a word.
But Zhou Yan interrupted him with a light laugh: "Heh, sister-in-law's mouth is indeed sharp. Big brother must really like you."
The next moment, Ning Bing'an took off his coat and casually draped it over Ning Yuan's shoulders: "The sea breeze is cool at night, go inside, don't get angry with unimportant people."
The movement was natural and practiced.
Ning Yuan paused, and for the first time did not refuse his "gentleness," nodding expressionlessly: "Okay."
After saying that, she turned and walked straight toward the door without even glancing at Zhou Yan again.
Ning Bing'an glanced at Cha Meiling, whose face was extremely pale, and sighed with pity: "Annie, how did you become so low-class?"
After saying that, he turned around and followed Ning Yuan, naturally pulling up her coat for her and gently placing his hand on Ning Yuan's shoulder.
Zhou Yan's gaze followed Ning Bing'an and Ning Yuan's departing figures, his eyes gradually becoming deep, finally settling on the hand Ning Bing'an placed on Ning Yuan's shoulder.
That hand, with its distinct knuckles, long and strong, was gently resting on Ning Yuan's shoulder, as if declaring some kind of ownership.
Zhou Yan narrowed his eyes slightly, making it impossible to see the color of his eyes.
Cha Meiling walked to his side, looked at his expression, and asked in a hoarse voice, suppressing her anger, "Why are you being so disrespectful to me!"
She reached out to take Zhou Yan's arm.
Zhou Yan turned around and got into the Ferrari, saying coolly, "Is your face worth that much? I have something to do at the police station, so I need to go first. Find a taxi to take you back."
With that, he stepped on the gas, and the Ferrari sped off like an arrow, spraying Cha Meiling with smoke.
Cha Meiling stood there, her expression darkening.
