Cha Meiling's smile froze for a moment, but quickly returned to normal.
She walked up to Zhou Yan with a charming smile and took his arm: "I came to the police station because I had something to do. What's wrong? Are you in a bad mood today?"
Today she was wearing a pale yellow Chanel summer/autumn suit, which made her skin look as white as jade.
Her meticulously styled shoulder-length hair cascaded over her shoulders, making her appear gentle, charming, beautiful, and elegant.
Seeing this, Bao C quickly interjected, "Sister-in-law, the target that the boss was keeping an eye on has run away to the mainland, so he's in a particularly bad mood!"
The other officers felt relieved that their sister-in-law had arrived, saving them from being scolded by their boss.
Zhou Yan withdrew his arm expressionlessly.
He gave Explosive C a cold look: "Police information must not be leaked to irrelevant personnel. If you don't want to work for the Organized Crime and Triad Bureau, then get out!"
When Bao C and the others were swept by Zhou Yan's cold gaze, they immediately fell silent, inwardly groaning.
The flattery backfired, and the boss became even more furious.
Despite being labeled an "unrelated person," Cha Meiling maintained a polite smile, completely unaffected by Zhou Yan's cold attitude.
She gently smoothed things over, saying, "Ayan, don't get so angry. They're just concerned about you. Let's talk things out."
Zhou Yan seemed not to have heard her at all, and only glanced at her coldly: "Go back first, this is not a place for you."
Cha Meiling looked somewhat helpless: "Ayan..."
Just then, a Cantonese voice with a British accent sounded from behind: "Annie came to see me, why are you chasing her away, you brat?"
The speaker was Evan, the Commissioner of Police of the Hong Kong Police Force. He had appeared out of nowhere and was staring at Zhou Yan with a displeased expression.
Cha Meiling turned to greet Evan, a gentle and elegant smile on her face: "Uncle Evan."
Zhou Yan's originally cold and stern profile instantly transformed into a nonchalant and carefree demeanor when he looked at Evan.
He shrugged: "Brother, since she's here to see you, I'll go get something to eat first."
As he spoke, he acted as if it were none of his business, put his hands in his pockets, and made a move to leave.
Evan snapped at him impatiently, "Hey kid, stop right there!"
Evan glared at him, his tone like a senior scolding a junior: "Stop putting on airs and come up here! I have something to say."
Zhou Yan paused, his narrow phoenix eyes slightly raised as he glanced at Cha Meiling without leaving a trace, before lazily replying, "Oh."
He gestured with his chin toward Bao C and said casually, "Bao C, move the car to the parking lot. You can order whatever you want for lunch, and it'll be on my tab."
The group of men immediately replied, "Yes, Officer Zhou!"
Here are some advantages of having a boss who is from a wealthy family!
With his hands in his pockets, Zhou Yan followed Evan and Cha Meiling upstairs with a leisurely gait.
The elevator dinged and stopped on the floor where the director's office was located.
Evan stepped out of the elevator and into his office first, and gestured to his secretary not to let anyone in for the time being.
The Commissioner of Police's office is spacious and bright, with a huge floor-to-ceiling window overlooking the entire Wan Chai.
On the heavy mahogany desk, the documents were stacked neatly and spotlessly.
Evan walked behind his desk and sat down, pointing to the sofa opposite him, indicating that Zhou Yan and Cha Meiling should sit down.
Zhou Yan leaned back on the sofa with a nonchalant air, crossed his legs, and looked completely nonchalant.
Cha Meiling sat down properly, her hands folded on her knees, her posture elegant and dignified.
Evan looked at Zhou Yan, his brows furrowing slightly: "Yan, your temper has been getting worse lately."
Zhou Yan didn't even lift his eyelids: "I didn't, Brother Yi, don't wrong me!"
Evan's tone carried a hint of helplessness: "Annie is your fiancée, after all. How could you embarrass her in front of so many people?"
Zhou Yan gave a casual "hmm" without even lifting his eyelids: "Just doing something."
It was as if what Evan was talking about had nothing to do with him.
Cha Mei-ling immediately smoothed things over, saying elegantly and gently, "Uncle Evan, that's just how Ah-Yan is. He always does things with a sense of propriety and keeps his personal and professional life separate. Just now downstairs, he just didn't want outsiders to know the details of the police operation. It's also his responsibility to his job. How could I not understand?"
She tilted her head slightly, her gaze towards Zhou Yan carrying a mixture of indulgence and helplessness.
Evan pointed at Zhou Yan and Cha Meiling, and sighed heavily: "Annie, you're just too virtuous! You always think of this brat, but what about him? He doesn't know how lucky he is! All he does is play around and doesn't appreciate the people in front of him at all!"
Cha Meiling saw that Zhou Yan's brows were furrowing more and more tightly, and he was about to lose his temper.
She quickly reached out and gently patted his knee, softly soothing him, "Okay, Yan, don't make Uncle Evan angry."
Zhou Yan finally raised his eyelids, his tone tinged with impatience: "Brother Yi, what is it? If there's nothing else, I'll be leaving now. I have a ton of things to deal with at the Organized Crime and Triad Bureau."
Evan glared at him and said irritably, "Nonsense! Of course it's about you, you brat! What else could it be?"
He paused, turned to look at Cha Meiling, and his tone softened slightly.
“Annie, I’ve noticed that since Ah Yan returned to Hong Kong, he hasn’t been out fooling around with those shady women. It’s safe to say he’s settled down.”
He paused for a moment, then said, "Back in England, the engagement was just talk. Now that we're in Hong Kong, let's get married. You two are getting on in years, so it's good to settle down and have a child soon. That way, his second uncle and I can feel at ease."
Zhou Yan's face instantly turned cold, and without even thinking, he refused outright: "I disagree!"
His once-calm features were now covered with a layer of frost, his sharp eyes fixed on Cha Meiling, demanding—
"Is this what you meant? You know perfectly well that I don't plan to get married in the next few years, and you still fucking pull this stunt?"
Cha Meiling's face stiffened. She hadn't expected Evan to suddenly bring up marriage: "It wasn't me!"
Zhou Yan's phoenix eyes curved into a smile, but the smile didn't reach his eyes; instead, it revealed a hint of gloom and danger.
"Cha Meiling, I hate women who make decisions on their own, and I especially hate being forced into marriage. What makes you think you're any different from other women? You want to control me, huh?!"
Cha Meiling's face turned pale. She took a deep breath, swallowed her humiliation, and said softly, "Ayan, you've misunderstood me. I really didn't! Before I came, I had no idea Uncle Evan would bring this up..."
When Evan saw Zhou Yan venting his anger on Cha Meiling and reacting so intensely, he was also taken aback.
He frowned angrily: "Ayan! Is that even human language you're talking about?! Show some respect, kid! This has nothing to do with Annie, it was my own idea!"
Zhou Yan snorted coldly, a mocking smile curving his lips: "Even my second uncle doesn't meddle that much, Uncle Evan, you're meddling way too much!"
His unruly and arrogant behavior made Evan's temples throb: "Yan! You're going too far!"
Zhou Yan stood up and was about to stride away.
He slammed his hand on the table with a loud "bang," making the teacup jump.
"You bastard, sit down! Unless you don't want to work for the Organized Crime and Triad Bureau anymore!!"
