Chapter 902 Independent Commission Against Corruption (ICAC) (1/2)

Zhou Yan coldly ordered, his jaw clenched: "Bao C, take the suitcase and go to Li Baoshu's villa immediately."

The person died in less than half a day. To say it was suicide? Nobody would believe that!

How could someone like Li Baoshu, who is so afraid of death and cherishes his life, possibly commit suicide!

As he passed by Ning Bing'an, he maintained his aloof and indifferent demeanor.

"Rest in peace, Mr. Zhou. If you need any assistance from the Regent Hotel in the future, please feel free to ask. By the way, Mr. Zhou, you must grace my sister's and my wedding at the end of the year with your presence."

Zhou Yan stopped and turned to face Ning Bing'an.

Those around could feel the suffocating tension.

He stared coldly at Ning Bing'an, a dangerous sneer curling at the corner of his lips—

"Then you'd better not give me any leverage over you, or this wedding will just be a pipe dream."

Ning Bing'an's expression changed slightly, but he quickly regained his composure.

Zhou Yan led Bao C and the others into the elevator.

The elevator doors slowly closed, and their icy gazes clashed at the last moment.

Half an hour later, Zhou Yan's car stopped in front of Li Baoshu's villa on the hillside.

The luxurious European-style building was surrounded by police tape, with several black police cars and a forensic vehicle parked at the entrance.

"The O-Division officers have taken control of the scene," said "Breaking C," pointing to several police officers at the door.

Zhou Yan nodded and strode into the villa.

Upon arrival at the scene, police officers immediately came to greet them.

The police officer pointed to the body that had been pulled from the pool and reported with a grave expression—

"Sir, the deceased had a nylon rope around his neck, with a drain cover weighing about 60 pounds tied to it."

"The deceased had no visible injuries or signs of struggle, and there were no signs that the house had been ransacked."

By the pool, a forensic doctor in a white coat was packing his toolbox. Seeing Zhou Yan approach, he quickly stepped forward and saluted.

"Sir, according to the preliminary autopsy results, the deceased did indeed die from drowning, but some details require further investigation."

Ah K put on plastic gloves, took out three pieces of paper, and handed them to Zhou Yan: "Sir, this is the suicide note found in the study. Li Baoshu said in the suicide note that he has a heart condition, was in a bad mood recently, and was frightened and threatened by the police and the Independent Commission Against Corruption, so he chose to commit suicide."

Zhou Yan took the suicide note and quickly scanned it, his face growing increasingly grim.

Bao C stood behind Zhou Yan, and after reading the contents of the suicide note, he couldn't help but sneer.

"It's one thing for this thing to die, but now they're trying to smear our Organized Crime and Triad Bureau and the Independent Commission Against Corruption? These three suicide notes are illegible and full of loopholes; they're definitely forged! This is clearly murder to cover it up!"

Zhou Yan didn't say anything, but walked to the bookshelf and casually picked up a document.

He flipped through the documents, his sharp eyes scanning each line of text.

After a long while, Zhou Yan's deep and calm voice rang out—

"Although the three suicide notes are indeed illegible and full of loopholes, they do look like Li Baoshu's handwriting."

He placed a page from the file next to the will on the table, pointed to certain strokes, and said in a deep voice—

“Look at the ending stroke here, and the horizontal stroke with a bend here. These subtle features are hard to imitate. It’s unlikely that the other party could find a suitable person to forge his handwriting in such a short time.”

"Forging handwriting requires a long period of imitation and practice; it cannot be accomplished overnight."

Bao C frowned: "But Li Baoshu's reason for suicide is too perfunctory! Just because we asked him a few questions, he jumped into the swimming pool and committed suicide? That's too frivolous, isn't it? He can't really end his life for such a perfunctory reason, can he?"

Zhou Yan added, a sharp glint flashing in his eyes—

"Suicide is real, but it's more likely that he was forced to commit suicide by someone using leverage against him. How could an old fox like Chen Jingsong, who is meticulous in his work, leave such an obvious flaw as a forged suicide note?"

A thought flashed through Explosive C's mind, and he suddenly understood—

"Wait a minute, Li Baoshu's family is all in England, and he was promoted by Chen Jingsong. His family's livelihood depends entirely on Chen Jingsong's money. Chen Jingsong could easily threaten him with his family to force him to die!"

Zhou Yan didn't speak, but lit a cigarette, his eyes growing even colder: "If I die, the whole family will be glorious! That's an old rule in the underworld!"

C's face was grim, but when his gaze fell upon the metal box in his hand, he let out a long sigh of relief—

"Thank goodness, we still have these things from Rasin, so we don't have to worry about that scoundrel Chen Jingsong denying it!"

Before they could finish speaking, a deep, steady male voice suddenly rang out behind them: "We hope to take these documents back for investigation."

Zhou Yan and the others turned around at the sound and saw several men in suits who had appeared at the villa entrance at some point.

They all had stern expressions and sharp eyes that scanned everything inside the room.

The man in the lead took off his sunglasses and showed his identification to Zhou Yan and the others: "Pei Yong, Senior Investigation Officer of the Independent Commission Against Corruption."

The moment Zhou Yan and Pei Yong's eyes met, a barely perceptible glint of something unusual flashed in both of their eyes, disappearing in an instant like a phantom.

Explosive C immediately straightened his back, shielding the box behind him, and shouted at Pei Yong—

"Why should the Independent Commission Against Corruption (ICAC) take away the evidence we find during our O-Division investigations? Who do you think you are?"
