Chapter 157 How come she knows everything!
On the last day of September, Lin Shuying packed her things and went to the school gate to wait for her mother to pick her up. She had only been home once a month since she started high school, and tomorrow was National Day, so the school had an extra day off. She felt happy just thinking about not seeing her family for a month.
When they reached the door, they saw Chen Chunhua standing there chatting with someone. Lin Shuying took a few quick steps and shouted excitedly, "Mom! Here!"
Chen Chunhua glanced sideways and saw that her daughter had come out. She exchanged glances with the strange parent who was also there to pick up her child from school, and went up to take her daughter's woven bag.
"Are you hungry? I brought you a white steamed bun." As he said that, he took out an oil-paper bag from his pocket and stuffed it into her hand, then took the school bag from her shoulder.
"Is everything here? Is that all? Did you leave anything behind?"
"No, summer clothes are light to begin with, and they're all here." Lin Shuying took the steamed bun, broke it in half, and passed one half to Chen Chunhua's mouth first, "Mom, you eat too. You must be exhausted after riding the tricycle for so long."
Chen Chunhua smiled and dodged, "I'm not tired today, why don't you leave half for your milk."
"My grandma is here too?!" Lin Shuying opened her eyes wide instantly, stood on tiptoe and turned 360 degrees to look for her, "Where is she?" She didn't even see the tricycle at home!
"Come with me!" Chen Chunhua pulled her body which was spinning around, and squeezed out of the crowd, crossed the road and walked to the end of the street, then turned left into a small alley, walked along the bluestone road to the end of the alley, where there was a small river.
There was a brand new black-sailed boat parked on the river. An old woman was standing at the bow, pulling the anchor rope to stabilize the boat while talking to people on the shore.
Isn’t it her grandmother, Old Lady Liang?
"Grandma!" Lin Shuying came closer and called out. Liang Shengdi then realized they were back. She waved her hand, motioning Chen Chunhua and Lin Shuying to come down, and then turned around to talk to the old woman she had been chatting passionately with for almost half an hour.
"My granddaughter is here, so we have to leave. I'll bring her to you the day after tomorrow, but you should just wait here, okay?"
The old lady on the shore slapped her thigh and pointed at the house behind her, shouting, "Alright! I live here. It must be delivered by the evening of the day after tomorrow. I need it the next day!"
"It certainly won't be too late! I still have to send my eldest granddaughter to school that day!"
Mrs. Liang stood at the bow, holding up a bamboo pole, waving towards the shore, then looked at the mother and daughter who were already sitting under the tent, and said with full energy,
"Let's go~"
Lin Shuying had been talking non-stop since she saw the boat. However, she didn't dare to speak because her grandmother was chatting with someone. She didn't look at her mother until the boat was pushed away from the riverbank.
"Where did this ship come from?"
Chen Chunhua smiled and straightened the straw mat under her butt. "It's ours. We just brought it back a week ago. From now on, your grandma will be responsible for picking you up from school every month. Remember that place just now? When you get out of school, just go there directly. Grandma will be waiting for you there.
The boat is much faster than the tricycle and can reach our village in less than two hours."
Lin Shuying stared blankly at her grandmother who skillfully threw away the bamboo pole and rowed the boat with oars. Under her oars, the boat swayed away from the small ditch and headed towards the big river.
"My grandma...can also row a boat..."
Liang Shengdi snorted twice, her expression full of pride. "Of course. When we were kids, we couldn't row or swim, and that was life-threatening! Do you think everyone has the good life you have now?"
When Lin Shuying was in primary school, she learned to swim under the guidance of the old lady during the summer vacation. She was the only two landlubbers in the family, and only two of them managed to swim.
Chen Chunhua, who was accidentally slandered again, touched her nose and changed the subject directly.
"Didn't you just leave half a steamed bun for your grandma? Go give it to her! She's been rocking for two hours already, and now she has to rock for another two hours before going home. She must be hungry."
Lin Shuying then remembered that the steamed bun was still in her arms and she hadn't eaten it yet.
He stood up from the straw mat and squatted through the black boat, coming to Liang Shengdi at the bow. He wanted to say that he would feed her, but Mrs. Liang took off her shoes, sat on the bow, clamped the oar handle with her feet, and started to push down.
The boat moved forward steadily. Liang Shengdi wiped the steamed bun on her clothes, then reached out and took the oil-paper bag from Lin Shuying's hand, took half of the steamed bun and returned the other half to her.
"Go back and sit down. There's only one person on the bow. If there are too many people, the boat will capsize."
As she said this, she took a big bite of the steamed bun. In fact, before coming here just now, Chen Chunhua took two white steamed buns. She had already eaten one on the way, but she was still very hungry.
White steamed buns made with pure strong flour are so delicious!
Lin Shuying seemed a little dazed throughout the whole process. Liang Shengdi urged her several times before she reacted. She said "oh" twice and squatted back to sit next to Chen Chunhua, but her eyes were still watching her grandmother rowing with her feet.
This is so cool! How come she can do everything?
Chen Chunhua asked her to turn around and look inside the tent where they were sitting. There were several stacked plastic basins, bamboo baskets, and even a bunch of fishing nets.
"Your grandma has been out in the river these past two days. Whenever she catches fish, she rows the boat to sell them. She says she's made a lot of money! The steamed buns in your hand are made from the flour she bought with the money she earned! That's Fuqiang flour!"
Lin Shuying looked at the steamed bun in her hand. It was snow-white, and even though it was cold, she could smell a strong wheat aroma.
Her breasts are so amazing!
"Oh, by the way, Mom! What did you tell the old lady to give her just now?" Chen Chunhua suddenly remembered and asked loudly.
"Oh, three chickens, two geese, three pounds of eggs, and six fish. His family is having a wedding. Isn't Shuying going back to school the day after tomorrow? I'll go catch the fish. When the time comes, just tie up the chickens and geese and put them on the boat for me."
Liang Shengdi rowed the boat with her feet, stuffed steamed buns into her mouth, and spoke incoherently about the deal she had just made.
Chen Chunhua's grin widened even wider. "Okay! Remind me again the day after tomorrow!"
Liang Shengdi loves freedom, food, and chatting with people. When she was not working, she liked to sit at the entrance of the village and chat with people. Later, when she went up the mountains and down the rivers, she could chat while working, whether it was an acquaintance passing by or a stranger.
When she went to the fields, she could only wander around the three and a half acres of land. If she wanted to talk to people around her, she had to shout, which really suffocated her.
Suddenly being able to row a boat out and chat with people while doing business was like pressing the button of her primordial power, completely releasing her nature.
Even now, she can't completely stop working in the fields. She can only go boating when she's free, just like the autumn harvest is coming soon, and she won't be able to go boating or fishing anymore. She'll be happier when she can stop farming altogether.
