Chapter 44: Are you here to date your adulterer?

"Jiaxiang wants to eat wontons, buy him a bowl." Ding Ermei stood beside Zhao Zhenzhu and said with a long face.

Zhao Zhenzhu didn't even raise her head. After finishing the last wonton in the bowl, she wiped her mouth and stood up.

"Zhao Zhenzhu, I asked you to buy a bowl of wontons for Jiaxiang. Are you deaf?" Ding Ermei raised her voice.

"Oh! Why are mother-in-law and Jiaxiang here? Are they coming to the town to attend the market?" Zhao Zhenzhu asked, pretending to have just seen Ding Ermei.

Ding Ermei was so angry that she fell backwards.

She and Zhou Jiaxiang had been standing here for a while, and Zhao Zhenzhu was still asking them if they came to the town to attend the market. Isn't this nonsense?

"Zhao Zhenzhu, buy a bowl of wontons for Jiaxiang, and buy one for me too. I'm hungry." Ding Ermei pulled Zhou Jiaxiang's hand, and they sat opposite Zhao Zhenzhu.

"Mother-in-law, I don't have any money. If you want to eat wontons, buy them yourself." Zhao Zhenzhu refused.

"You have no money? Are you kidding me? Jiaxiang saw you just bought some fried cakes in front, and then brought Yunyun here to eat wontons. Hurry up, or I'll scold you for being unfilial." Ding Ermei widened her eyes and said viciously.

"I really have no money." Zhao Zhenzhu lied without changing her expression or heartbeat.

Zhao Zhenzhu didn't care whether Ding Ermei believed it or not.

Asking her to spend money to buy wontons for Ding Ermei? Ding Ermei must be dreaming.

Zhao Zhenzhu would rather buy too many wontons and feed the leftovers to the dog than feed them to Ding Ermei.

"Buy it quickly. If you don't, I will send a letter to Bingchen tomorrow and ask you to divorce." Ding Ermei said threateningly.

"Mother-in-law, I really don't have any money. I haven't even paid for this bowl of wontons! If you don't believe me, ask Uncle Jin." Zhao Zhenzhu said, pretending to be aggrieved.

In fact, Zhao Zhenzhu was almost laughing out loud.

If it weren't for the need to maintain her image in public, Zhao Zhenzhu would definitely have told Ding Ermei to write a letter to urge Zhou Bingchen to divorce her.

Humph! Zhou Bingchen, when I liked you, I treated you like a treasure. Now I don’t like you anymore, you are nothing!

Ding Ermei blinked, a little hesitant.

Zhao Zhenzhu used to love Zhou Bingchen the most. As long as Ding Ermei threatened to make them divorce, Zhao Zhenzhu would agree to anything.

Could it be that... Zhao Zhenzhu really has no money?

"Mother-in-law, you came at the right time. When you pay the bill later, please pay for me as well. This will save me from having to go back to my mom to ask for the money and then send it back." Zhao Zhenzhu said.

"You're dreaming. How dare you take advantage of me?" Ding Ermei jumped up.

"Auntie, you want two bowls of wontons, right? 40 cents, and 60 cents including the pearls." Uncle Jin came over to collect the money from Ding Ermei.

"Wait, don't order our wontons yet, I don't have money to pay." Ding Ermei tightly covered her pockets, looked at Uncle Jin with vigilant eyes, and said, "For the bowl of wontons that Zhao Zhenzhu ate, ask her for the money, don't ask me."

"Aren't you Grandma Zhenzhu? Zhenzhu didn't bring any money, so it's only right that you pay her first, right?" Uncle Jin frowned.

"I have a big family, and each room has to pay for its own snacks. As a mother-in-law, I always treat everyone equally," Ding Ermei explained.

"Auntie, you are a bit hypocritical! Each family spends their own money on snacks? I just heard you asked Zhenzhu to buy two bowls of wontons for you and your grandson!" Aunt Jin couldn't stand it and couldn't help but say a fair word on behalf of Zhao Zhenzhu.

"The old woman doesn't want to spend money on her daughter-in-law, so she says they spend their own money. If she wants to take advantage, she can just ask her daughter-in-law to buy it for her!"

"The child is greedy, so the old woman asked for some wontons for him. It's acceptable, but one bowl is not enough, she asked for two. The old woman is really shameless."

"It's shameless to ask your daughter-in-law to pay and then yell at her."

"Yeah, yeah! How shameless."

······

Several diners at the wonton stall were talking about it, and everyone looked at Ding Ermei with a hint of contempt in their eyes.

"No, I'm Zhao Zhenzhu's mother-in-law. So what if she gave me a bowl of wontons as a gift? Is there any need for you to meddle in my business?" Ding Ermei's face turned red with anger.

"Bingchen sends back twenty yuan every month, and you hold it all in your hands, mother-in-law. It's not like you can't afford two bowls of wontons. Why do you have to ask me to buy them for you? My mother feels sorry for me, so she asked me to take Yunyun out for a walk and buy some food. I have to go back and ask my mother for the money for the wontons later!" Zhao Zhenzhu looked helpless.

"The money Bingchen gave is Bingchen's, and the money you gave as filial piety is yours, how can they be the same? Go back and ask your mother for a few more cents so that you can treat us both to wontons." Ding Ermei said righteously.

"Mother-in-law, you can't be so unreasonable. Over the years, all the money Bingchen sent me was snatched away by you. I am a weak woman, and I can only support myself and my two children by relying on the help from my mother's family. I don't have the face to ask my mother for money to buy wontons for you." Zhao Zhenzhu didn't want to get entangled with Ding Ermei, so after she finished speaking, she turned and left.

"I was in a hurry to go out today and forgot to bring money. Can you lend me one dollar first and I will return it to you when I go back? Is that okay?" Ding Ermei grabbed Zhao Zhenzhu's arm and stopped her from leaving.

Ding Ermei's abacus was clacking in her mind.

Two bowls of wontons cost 40 cents, and she asked Zhao Zhenzhu to "borrow" one yuan, and she could still make 60 cents.

Anyway, Zhao Zhenzhu is shy, and she would definitely feel embarrassed to refuse since her mother-in-law said so.

"Mother-in-law, I don't have any money either. If you and Zhou Jiaxiang want to eat wontons, buy them yourselves. If you don't want to eat them, just leave quickly and don't delay Uncle Jin's business." Zhao Zhenzhu was impatient.

There are many people at the market.

Ding Ermei has a loud voice and kept talking a lot. Others thought there was something strange to see, so they all crowded over to Uncle Jin's wonton stall.

Zhao Zhenzhu likes to "watch the show" but doesn't like to be the "show" being watched.

"Auntie, do you want more of your wontons? If you do, I'll put them in the pot now. If not, please leave quickly!" Uncle Jin also started to chase people away.

The small wonton stall only had two tables, and they were almost full.

Ding Ermei and Zhou Jiaxiang took up two seats, which really delayed Uncle Jin's business.

Ding Ermei was so angry that her head was dizzy.

After saying so many nice things, she still couldn't get the upper hand from Zhao Zhenzhu. How could Ding Ermei tolerate this?

"You are so bad, Zhao Zhenzhu. All you talk about is his business. Are you having an affair with this man? No wonder you insisted on bringing the children back to your parents' home. You are here to date your adulterer, right?" Ding Ermei pointed at Zhao Zhenzhu and cursed loudly.

As soon as Ding Ermei finished speaking, Aunt Jin jumped up with a cry, raised her hand and slapped Ding Ermei in the face.

"You old woman, you are full of shit. If you can't speak, you'd better forget about using this mouth!" Aunt Jin slapped Ding Ermei several times.

Aunt Jin is not someone you can easily mess with. She has six brothers and sisters, and they have been fighting since they were young, so she is very experienced in fighting.

Ding Ermei slandered Uncle Jin in public, and Aunt Jin wanted to tear Ding Ermei apart.

Ding Ermei was stunned.
