Chapter 13 Defending the Yellow River

Chapter 13 Defending the Yellow River

Liu Jianshe happened to be home today. When he saw the bundle on the back rack of Gu Yiye's bicycle, he roughly understood the purpose of their group!

He knew that Gu Yiye was adopted and had suffered a lot of injustice over the years.

It's good that the family has separated now, but where will the child live in the future?

Gu Dadan meekly offered a cigarette, saying, "Director Liu, have a smoke!"

Liu Jianshe didn't like this cowardly but dishonest man. He waved his hand and said, "No need, I've quit smoking."

"What do you want from me? Just say it."

Gu Dadan looked utterly pathetic, standing there speechless for a long time.

Cao Chunhua rolled her eyes, walked over, and said, "Director Liu, please be our witness. We have separated from Gu Yiye."

Gu Yiye also said, "Thank you for your help, Director Liu."

Liu Jianshe admired Gu Yiye quite a bit; he was handsome, strong, and capable.

Liu Jianshe said, "Okay, how did you divide it?"

Gu Yiye said, "I'll give them 500 yuan as a way of buying out their future support obligations."

Liu Jianshe asked, "So how much money and how many tickets did your family give you? What else did they give you?"

Gu Yiye gave a wry smile and said, "A few pieces of clothing, a quilt, and a set of sheets."

Liu Jianshe's wife, Wang Shuilian, came out of the vegetable garden and said, "Chunhua, it's not that I want to meddle in your family's affairs, but the way you're dividing things up is really unfair!"

If someone else had said that to her, Cao Chunhua would have spat at them and cursed, "Mind your own business!"

But now the person saying this is the director's wife, and even if she had the courage, she wouldn't dare to say it. She could only give an awkward smile and say, "This, this was all proposed by Gu Yiye himself."

Seeing Gu Yiye nod, Wang Shuilian started scolding him again: "You silly child, you've only grown taller, but why don't you grow up smarter? You're such a fool!" (A fool is similar to an idiot in some local dialects.)

Gu Yiye said, "Thank you for your concern, Aunt Wang. I just want to separate from the family as soon as possible and start my own household."

Seeing that Gu Yiye also said so, Wang Shuilian, being an outsider, didn't say much and went into the kitchen with her vegetable basket.

Liu Jianshe didn't try to persuade him much. Gu Yiye was hardworking and capable, and it was a good thing for him to be separated from his family sooner.

He took out paper and pen. Having been a cadre for a long time, he was adept at writing materials and reports, let alone just a certificate of witnessing.

He wrote with a fountain pen in less than a minute, and the certificate was finished.

The key point is that after Gu Yiye gave away 500 yuan, he had no further dealings with Gu Dadan and Cao Chunlan.

None of the three had any objections, so they signed their names and pressed their fingerprints on the document.

Gu Yiye immediately handed over the bundled 500 yuan to Cao Chunhua. Gu Dadan and Cao Chunhua had never seen so much money in their lives. Their eyes widened in disbelief, and they hurriedly ran home to lock the door and count the money carefully.

Gu Yiye then took out a letter from Li Ziqiang, a fellow villager and comrade-in-arms, and gave it to Liu Jianshe. It stated that Li Ziqiang asked Gu Yiye to look after his house in Anfeng Brigade and that Gu Yiye had the right to live there.

Li Ziqiang's parents passed away early, and he lived with his grandmother. He finally joined the army after being drafted, but his grandmother fell ill and passed away before she could enjoy the blessings of her grandson.

The house is currently unoccupied, so it's perfect for Gu Yiye to move in.

Upon reading the letter, Liu Jianshe shook his head with a smile: "Shui Lian said you were heartless, but I think you're more cunning than anyone else. You were already planning how to divide the family property when you were in the army, weren't you?! Otherwise, how do you explain this letter?"

Gu Yiye smiled and flattered, "My little tricks can't escape Secretary Liu's sharp eyes."

Gu Yiye was still thinking about cooking for his young wife, so he took his leave.

Wang Shuilian came out carrying a basket of vegetables, saying as she walked, "They're all homegrown. Take them with you. Besides carrots, lettuce, broad beans, and chives, there's also some white chili peppers that I dried last year. Take them all home."

Gu Yiye thought that since the meat he bought earlier didn't have any side dishes, he accepted it without being polite.

"Thank you, Auntie."

Wang Shuilian said, "Why are you being so polite with me? My grandson has eaten plenty of your food."

Gu Yiye smiled, rode his bicycle to Li Ziqiang's house first, and put the bundle away.

They rushed to the educated youth settlement without stopping.

He hummed a song that was often sung in the army while riding his bike!

"The wind is howling, the horses are neighing, the Yellow River is roaring, the Yellow River is roaring..."

At this moment, Gu Yiye's heart was churning as fiercely as the Yellow River in the lyrics.

Today, the family division went smoothly, bringing me one step closer to marrying a young wife and enjoying a warm home with family and children.

How could I not be excited?
