Chapter 207 No Surgery
At 8 a.m., Lin Shanshan woke up naturally.
Gu Yiye has already gone to the army. Lin's mother is on the night shift today. When she saw Lin Shanshan get up, she said, "Nannan, go wash up and eat some xiaolongbao."
Lin Shanshan was indeed hungry. Usually at school, students would run laps early in the morning, so she also got up quite early. She would have already eaten breakfast by this time.
She quickly brushed her teeth and washed her face. When she sat down at the dining table, Lin's mother served her a bowl of soy milk.
Lin Shanshan ate three small steamed buns one after another before stopping to drink soy milk.
"Mom, it tastes just like before, it's so delicious."
Seeing her daughter eating happily, Lin's mother was also pleased and said with a smile, "Then eat more. Your dad has taken care of what you talked about with him yesterday."
"After you finish eating, we'll go to the hospital together. No rush, eat slowly. Don't choke. You're such a grown-up, why are you acting like a child?"
Lin Shanshan swallowed the bun and began to whine, "Mom, I'm only 18 years old. No matter how old I get, I'll always be Mom's little child."
"The main reason I ate them so quickly was because my mom's xiaolongbao (soup dumplings) were so delicious, and the shrimp inside was so fresh."
Lin's mother was so pleased with her that she sat there quietly watching her precious daughter eat breakfast.
Just like before, her cheeks puff out when she eats, which is incredibly cute.
A married daughter rarely comes back, and it's as if they can never get enough of seeing her.
After the meal, the mother and daughter went to the hospital.
Just then, Mr. Lin finished his rounds and was in his office.
"Dad, have you found a patient willing to undergo artificial heart surgery?"
Lin Shanshan asked as soon as she entered the room.
Lin's father looked up and smiled, "Daughter, there is one. This patient is 52 years old and her physical indicators are suitable for surgery. I'll take you there now and ask her opinion."
As Lin's father led Lin Shanshan to the ward, he kept talking, telling her the patient's details: "The patient's name is Gan Haixiu. He was the director of the metallurgical chain workshop at the metallurgical plant and has been retired for two years."
Metallurgical plants are large factories, and workshop directors earn high salaries, but they need to be proficient in precious metal smelting processes and have management skills. It's not a job that just anyone can do.
Judging from the name, it must be a woman, Lin Shanshan thought, she must be a very outstanding woman.
Mr. Lin continued, "When I was making my rounds just now, I talked to her about it. Gan Haixiu seems to be interested. She is a patient herself and knows the pain of being sick, so she wants to give it a try."
"However, her partner was hesitant because he was afraid the risks were too high."
Lin Shanshan replied, "It's understandable. After all, there hasn't been a single heart transplant surgery in China yet. This is a pioneering effort, and it's normal for most people to be hesitant."
As they were talking, they arrived at the door of the ward.
Besides her husband Xiong Jianguo, there were two men in their thirties by Gan Haixiu's bedside.
Lin's father told Lin Shanshan, "Those two are the patient's stepsons, Xiong Dahu and Xiong Erhu."
“They come every day and ask me to take good care of Gan Haixiu. It seems they have a good relationship.”
Lin Shanshan didn't offer any opinions; without knowing the whole story, one couldn't discern anything from the surface.
Lin's father walked ahead and entered the ward. When Xiong Erhu saw Lin's father, he asked with concern, "Dean Lin, is my mother alright now?"
Xiong Dahu also asked, "Dean Lin, my mother should live to be a hundred, right?"
No doctor would dare to say that anyone can live to be a hundred!
Mr. Lin said, "Currently, the patient's vital signs are fine."
"However, we cannot guarantee that it will not recur later. It just so happens that we can talk about the surgery today."
Xiong Dahu asked, "What kind of surgery?"
Lin's father: "If the artificial heart transplant is successful, then the disease will not recur."
Xiong Erhu thought for a moment and then asked, "Dean Lin, aren't all surgeries risky?"
"Of course." Mr. Lin could not lie to the patient's family and answered truthfully.
"No, we can't have the surgery!" the two brothers shouted in unison upon hearing the answer.
