Chapter 217 Rejuvenating Soup
We ate lunch at the military factory.
Chief Engineer Liang greatly valued talent and wanted to recruit Lin Shanshan. He had heard that Lin Shanshan had been a sent-down youth in Hunan Province and that she particularly enjoyed Hunan cuisine.
For lunch, the canteen chef prepared double-pepper fish head and stir-fried eggs with preserved beans for Lin Shanshan as an extra dish.
"General Ren, Shanshan, try some of the flavors from our military factory."
Chief Engineer Liang said politely.
The table was laden with dishes, including some specially prepared for Lin Shanshan, as well as classic dishes from Shanghai.
Ren Guochang, who was visiting for the first time, joked, "Old Liang, I didn't get this kind of treatment last time I came."
Old Liang laughed: "Shanshan is our honored guest, so of course she deserves the highest level of hospitality."
Lin Shanshan was somewhat flattered and smiled, "Mr. Liang, you are too kind. I am a junior and do not dare to call myself a distinguished guest."
Old Liang shook his head: "We don't follow seniority here, we only recognize ability. If your design is good, you're a valued guest in our military factory."
Changing the subject, Lao Liang continued, "However, I hope that in the future we will not be distinguished guests, but comrades."
Lin Shanshan understood; they wanted her to work here.
Before Lin Shanshan could answer, her third uncle came to her rescue: "My niece-in-law is the president of a university of science and technology. She has to steer such a big school. What will she do if she comes here?"
"Don't even think about it. Even if Shanshan is willing, my nephew isn't. Your work here is so demanding, and my nephew is very protective of his wife. He won't agree."
Lin Shanshan felt very embarrassed when teased by her elders.
I could only change the subject: "Mr. Liang, I don't work here, but I can design blueprints at home. I'll give them to you when they're done."
"Moreover, many of our engineering students are very outstanding, and they can come here after they graduate."
This is also the main reason for establishing schools. One person's ability is too limited. Only by continuously cultivating talents can we make our country strong in the shortest possible time.
Although Lao Liang was very disappointed that Lin Shanshan couldn't come, it was still something to be happy about that she could get the blueprints and continuously send in talent.
He stopped hesitating and pointed to the double-pepper fish head: "Shanshan, eat this fish head, it's a specialty dish of Hunan."
Lin Shanshan nodded gratefully.
Gu Yiye controlled her from eating spicy food, and Gu Xiang mostly cooked light and bland dishes every day.
It's not that it's not tasty, it's just that after eating too much bland food, I really crave the spicy and savory flavors of Hunan cuisine.
One bite, and the long-lost spiciness stimulated her taste buds, making Lin Shanshan's appetite soar. She could eat three bowls of rice today.
After dinner, Ren Guochang took Lin Shanshan back to school. Before leaving, his third uncle said, "Shanshan, the tank cannon will be ready by this time tomorrow. I'll have Aye pick you up tomorrow."
Lin Shanshan: "Are we going to the military factory?"
Ren Guochang said, "No, I'll have Lao Liang send someone to deliver the tank cannon to the troops to test its effectiveness first. You can go and take a look tomorrow. If any modifications are needed, you'll still need to be there."
Lin Shanshan readily agreed: "Okay."
As he spoke, he yawned. Ren Guochang knew that pregnant women were sleepy, just like when his mother was pregnant before. So he said, "Go back quickly."
Lin Shanshan nodded; her biological clock made her fall asleep as soon as she got to her dorm.
With the formula and medicinal materials in hand, the finished Chinese medicine would be ready soon. Lin Shanshan estimated that Old Zhao's cancer treatment pills should be ready by now.
After waking up, she went to the Department of Traditional Chinese Medicine to find him.
When they found him, Old Zhao and Xu Pan'er were sitting there somewhat dejectedly, neither of them saying a word.
Is it impossible to make pills?
Lin Shanshan walked over and asked, "Old Zhao, hasn't the finished drug been produced yet?"
Dr. Zhao's gray hair was filled with melancholy. He shook his head and said, "It's done. I'll take it to Dr. Tong and have him test its effectiveness in treating cancer."
Lin Shanshan didn't respond, waiting for Old Zhao to continue.
"The results are in. This medicine can only treat patients in the early stages of cancer. It is not effective enough for patients in the middle and late stages and cannot save them."
"That's not bad," Lin Shanshan reassured him. "Old Zhao, this is already very good. At least it can help some of the patients."
More importantly, this is a traditional Chinese medicine.
Since a Christian doctor came to China to preach in 1835 and established the first ophthalmology hospital in Guangzhou, Western medicine has been around for more than a century, and began to flourish in the 1860s and 1870s.
Many people feel that Western medicine is effective quickly and has instruments that can clearly see the inside of the body, while Chinese medicine has to be brewed by oneself and is bitter. Over time, they tend to prefer Western medicine.
Now that this medicine is made into pills and sold, it can not only save the lives of cancer patients, but also restore the reputation of traditional Chinese medicine.
However, even patients with mid-to-late stage cancer can be saved!
Lin Shanshan desperately tried to recall the books she had read in the underworld, hoping to find some herbs that could save her life and bring her back to life.
Rejuvenating Yang? Rejuvenating Yang Decoction!
I've got it! This Rejuvenating Decoction is said to be able to pull patients on the verge of death back to life. It should be fine for treating patients with mid-to-late stage cancer.
Interestingly, the medicinal herbs in this soup are highly poisonous.
