Chapter 40 Eating in the County Town

Chapter 40 Eating in the County Town

Lin Shanshan was also very excited. Having lived two lives, this was her first time getting married, and it would be a lie to say she wasn't happy.

Lin Shanshan said, "Give me the marriage certificate, and I'll put it in my storage space."

Gu Yiye quickly took it out, looked at it a few more times, and then handed the marriage certificate to Lin Shanshan, saying, "My wife is so thoughtful."

“Honey, we should still hold a wedding in Anfeng Brigade, invite the villagers and former educated youth to come and celebrate. I’ll also invite my comrades who have retired from the army like me. What do you think?”

Gu Yiye was simple-minded; he just wanted everyone to know as soon as possible that he was married and that the bride was Lin Shanshan, whom he loved!

Lin Shanshan thought for a moment and said, "That's fine, let's go through the village and let them know."

Gu Yiye asked, "How about setting it for the 27th of this month? April 27th, even in death I will love my wife."

Lin Shanshan quickly said, "Pah, pah, pah, don't talk about dying or not, we will live a good life."

Gu Yiye laughed: "Okay, may we live to be a hundred years old."

"Honey, wait for me a minute. I'm going to call my comrade. He installed a phone at home not long ago, so I can get through right away."

Lin Shanshan smiled and said, "Go ahead, I'll wait for you."

Gu Yiye was gone for about ten minutes. When he came back, he said to Lin Shanshan, "Wife, let's go to the county town now and find a state-run restaurant to have a good meal to celebrate."

Lin Shanshan said, "Okay, I'm a little tired too. I'll take a nap in the car."

After the two boarded the bus to Hongyun County, Lin Shanshan fell asleep leaning on Gu Yiye's shoulder.

Upon arriving in the county town, Gu Yiye took Lin Shanshan straight to the state-run restaurant. He ordered Lin Shanshan's favorite fish, a roast duck, a braised pork knuckle, and a soup. The portions were very generous in those days, with each plate piled high.

Fortunately, with Gu Yiye, the big eater, around, we're sure we can finish it all without worrying about wasting food.

While deboning the fish, Gu Yiye said, "Wife, we have a certificate now. When we go back to Anfeng Brigade tomorrow, we'll move all the things from the educated youth settlement back home. I'll also renovate a bathroom. After dinner, we'll go to the supply and marketing cooperative to buy bath supplies, and we'll also buy new blankets and other things."

Lin Shanshan asked, "If you're altering someone else's house, do you need to call them to let them know?"

Gu Yiye placed the boneless fish meat into Lin Shanshan's bowl and said, "Honey, I forgot to tell you, I bought that house a long time ago. Li Ziqiang's family is gone. His girlfriend is from the military's cultural troupe. They are planning to buy a house in the city and won't be coming back."

Gu Yiye added, "I'll buy you a house in the city later too."

Lin Shanshan placed a piece of braised pork knuckle on Gu Yiye's plate and said, "Yes, let's work hard together!"

Just as the two were deeply in love, a man and a woman walked into the state-run restaurant. The woman looked to be in her thirties, elegant and beautiful, dressed in trendy clothes and with a fashionable hairstyle.

The man looks older than the woman, and his facial features are somewhat similar to hers.

"Little sister, this restaurant is the best in the whole Hongyun County, and the food is pretty good too. Of course, it can't compare to the gourmet meals your chef at home in Hong Kong," the man said with a smile.

The two sat down and ordered food.

The woman said, "Brother, you know it's not easy for me to come back. I need to get a 'Letter of Introduction for Hong Kong and Macao Compatriots to Return Home'. After my husband passed away, he left one-third of his inheritance to his eldest daughter and two-thirds to me and my youngest son. Now that I have no worries about food and clothing, I miss my child with Guofan even more."

The woman couldn't help but tear up as she thought of her first love who died in battle and her child who was sent away by her older brother right after birth.

"Brother, my husband is dead, and no one can take care of me. Please tell me where that child is."

The man sighed as well: "Little sister, it's not that I didn't want to tell you, but the middleman we found that year has passed away. I don't know who adopted him, I only know that the family lived in Anfeng Brigade. But it's been over 20 years, maybe they've moved!"
