Chapter 48 Bringing the Eldest Sister Home

Chapter 48 Bringing the Eldest Sister Home

Gu Yiye's idea was simple: once you bring a wife home, you should pamper and cherish her.

What's more, he married the person he cherished most.

When Gu Yiye first saw Lin Shanshan, he felt as if he had known her for a long time, as if he had known her in a past life.

When I saw her, I had only one thought in my mind: to protect her, to love her, and to not let her get hurt in the slightest!

While the two were flirting, Zeng Huihuang arrived at their door with bamboo shoots and Chen Meili.

Gu Yiye said, "Are you hungry already? You came so early."

Zeng Huihuang said, "Big brother! I'm here to tell you something. Your eldest sister, Gu Xiang, is back. She was beaten black and blue and doesn't want to go back to her husband's family. Uncle Gu and Aunt Cao disagree and asked Gu Yong to take her back, but she refused and is crying at home."

Chen Meili also said, "Yes, brother, go and see, Sister Xiang has brought her daughter back."

Gu Yiye hurriedly got up and said to Lin Shanshan, "Wife, I'm going to take a nap. I'll cook dinner when I get back."

Lin Shanshan had heard Gu Yiye say that Gu Xiang often secretly gave him food when they were little, and she was grateful to this older sister. She said, "I'll go with you."

Zeng Huihuang and Chen Meili also wanted to help, but then they thought that it was their family matter and it wouldn't be good for too many people to go, so they stayed behind to clean and process the bamboo shoots and potatoes.

When Gu Yiye and Lin Shanshan rushed to the Gu family home, Gu Xiang was being pulled away by Gu Yong, while Gu Dadan was smoking his pipe with a worried expression.

Cao Chunhua followed behind, carrying Gu Xiang's daughter, Wangdi.

As they walked, he said, "Xiang'er, a woman should follow her husband wherever he goes. When a man gets angry, he can't control himself, so you should stay away from him. Once you give birth to a son for them, life will be easier."

Gu Dadan exhaled a smoke ring and said, "A woman, once she's married, is like water spilled from a cup; there's no reason for her to come back to her parents' home."

It seems they're determined to send the mother and daughter back to their husband's family.

Gu Xiang cried her heart out, and Wang Di also wailed in Cao Chunhua's arms, crying, "Mommy, Uncle, don't pull my mommy. I want my mommy to hold me."

Gu Yiye was furious and shouted loudly, "Gu Yong, let go of my eldest sister!"

Gu Yong was startled and instinctively released Gu Xiang's hand.

Wangdi struggled to get down from Cao Chunhua's arms, rushed to Gu Xiang, grabbed Gu Xiang's hand which had been reddened by Gu Yong, and said angrily, "Mom, does it hurt? Let me blow on it for you."

Gu Xiang patted her daughter's head and said, "Wangdi, don't cry, Mommy isn't in pain."

Lin Shanshan took out a piece of candy and gave it to Wangdi, saying, "Little girl, eat this. It will stop you from crying."

Gu Xiang looked up at the girl in front of her, who was completely different from the women in the village. She had snow-white skin and was dazzlingly beautiful, but she didn't recognize her.

When she got married, Lin Shanshan hadn't gone to the countryside yet, and Gu Xiang rarely came back, so she hadn't seen Lin Shanshan.

Gu Yiye introduced, "Elder sister, this is your sister-in-law, Lin Shanshan, who was sent to the countryside during the Cultural Revolution."

"Wangdi, this is your aunt. Here's some candy from your aunt."

Wangdi then took the candy from Lin Shanshan's hand and said timidly, "Thank you, Auntie. Thank you, Uncle."

Cao Chunhua, hands on her hips, said, "Gu Yiye, you've already separated from us, and you've guessed that we're not your biological parents anymore, so why are you coming back? Don't meddle in our family affairs."

The word "family affairs" was used with great emphasis.

Gu Xiang was a little surprised but not shocked when she heard Cao Chunhua's words. It seemed that Gu Xiang knew that Gu Yiye was not her biological brother, but she did not expect that Gu Yiye would guess so quickly.

Lin Shanshan said, "Even if she's not my biological sister, she gave Brother Gu something to eat when he was little. Now that we're capable, we won't let her and her daughter go hungry."

Gu Yiye looked at his wife gratefully and said, "Yes, I came to pick up my older sister today. If you won't take her in, she can stay at my place for as long as she wants."

Then he asked Gu Xiang, "Big sister, would you like to come back with us?"

Gu Xiang's eyes were blurry with tears, and she was filled with gratitude.

Today, I couldn't take the beating from Wangdi's dad anymore. I thought going back to my parents' home would be like returning to a safe haven, but I never expected that my own parents and younger brother would kick me and my daughter out.

Gu Yiye, who is not related to him by blood, was willing to provide a home for him and his daughter simply because Gu Yiye had given him steamed buns when he was a child.
