Chapter 55 An Egg Hitting a Rock
Zhu Xiaoyu ran frantically all the way, completely unaware of the obstacles in the road.
As expected, he fell!
Unfortunately, the egg hit a rock!
Before Gu Yong's fist could even land, he let out a pig-like scream.
People in the fields and villages heard the shouts and ran over to see what was going on.
Zhu Xiaoyu was seen clutching his crotch, rolling on the ground, his face covered in sweat from the pain, and only able to let out unconscious howls!
Men would be sore from looking at this!
The villagers who had gathered around began to whisper among themselves.
"It seems the Zhu family line will be cut off now!"
"I remember Zhou Zhaodi said the day before yesterday that she was pregnant with Zhu Xiaoyu's child, but I don't know if it's a boy."
"What are you thinking? Secretary Zhu and his family look down on rural daughters-in-law and forced her to have an abortion."
"Ah, that's really their own fault. Is the Zhu family line going to end like this?"
Wang Guihua, who was mixed in with the crowd, hurriedly ran home, thinking to herself: Luckily, she only took medicine at the time. Now, Sanya has no signs of miscarriage. I guess she is too far along in her pregnancy to miscarry.
If Zhu Xiaoyu really loses his fertility, it's not impossible for Sanya to marry into his family.
Upon hearing the news, Zhu Shengli and Xiang Hong rushed over. Ignoring their tears, they hurriedly lifted Zhu Xiaoyu onto the tractor and drove to the commune clinic for emergency treatment.
Liu Jianshe and his militia immediately subdued Gu Yong.
After watching the excitement, the villagers went back to work in the fields. Excitement can't put food on the table; they still needed to work to earn a living.
As the sun set, Gu Yiye came up from the field, washed the mud off his legs and hands by the ditch, and then picked up Lin Shanshan to go home.
Seeing Lin Shanshan's slightly flushed face, he said with heartache, "Wife, don't come tomorrow. Secretary Zhu probably won't be able to manage the brigade's affairs these days. Anyway, our family doesn't need those few work points to exchange for food rations."
Lin Shanshan nodded: "Okay, we still have to plant wheat tonight. I'll rest at home during the day and do some laundry. It's not right for my older sister to wash these clothes. It's not right for an older sister to wash her younger brother's clothes."
Gu Yiye said, "Then I'll do it."
Lin Shanshan said, "I'll wash it. You're tired enough. I can't let you do everything by yourself. I'm your lover and I want to share the burden with you. It hurts me to see you so tired."
Gu Yiye felt as sweet as honey and said, "That's enough. I'll go to the county to buy a washing machine when I have time, so we won't have to wash anymore."
Lin Shanshan said, "But the village doesn't have running water."
Gu Yiye said, "I carried them one bucket at a time."
The two men were talking and didn't notice a man secretly following them. The man followed them for a while and then stopped. When a passing villager came by, the man stopped him, offered him a cigarette, and asked, "Fellow villager, could you tell me where your Party Secretary's house is?"
The villagers said, "Looking for Secretary Zhu? His whole family isn't home."
The man then asked, "Where does the director live? I've come to ask one of your brigade's cadres for something."
The villager pointed to a red brick and blue tile house and said, "That's Director Liu's house. It's just around the corner."
The man thanked him and headed towards Director Liu's house.
When Gu Yiye and Lin Shanshan arrived home, Gu Xiang had already set out the meal. When Wang Di saw them return, she happily greeted them, "Auntie, Uncle, you're back!"
Lin Shanshan smiled and said, "Yes, you're back. Was Wangdi very well-behaved today?"
The little girl smiled and said, "Auntie, I was very good today. When Mom was cooking, I even helped her tend the fire."
Lin Shanshan took out a piece of candy and gave it to Wangdi: "Here, this is a reward for you."
Too much sugar is bad for your teeth, so Lin Shanshan only gives Wangdi one piece of candy a day.
The little girl smiled and said thank you before accepting the gift with both hands. She didn't eat it, but carefully put it into her pocket.
Dinner consisted of three dishes and a soup: stir-fried pork with potatoes, omelet with chives, braised fish chunks, and a shepherd's purse soup. It didn't taste as good as Gu Yiye's, but it was still quite delicious.
After the family finished eating, Gu Xiang and Wang Di stayed home to clean up the dishes.
Gu Yiye, Lin Shanshan, and their militia brothers joined up to reclaim wasteland.
