Xia Weian planned to carefully count the things in the box after returning home. They would not take possession of anything that belonged to the country.
But the deep pit had to be hidden so that it could not be discovered by others. Xia Weian was thinking about how to block the entrance, and as he was thinking about it, he returned to the deep pit.
Xia Weian climbed up by grabbing the vines he had left behind, walked around, chopped some wood, made a sturdy wooden board to block the pit mouth, covered it with soil, and put some weeds to cover it.
That way, even if someone accidentally steps on it, they won't fall in.
Normally, no one would notice the difference here.
After doing all this, Xia Weian took out the backpack, carried it on his back and walked quickly down the mountain towards home.
I didn't meet anyone along the way.
Xia Weian returned home safely.
Seeing Xia Weian coming back, the children immediately came forward to greet him.
Da Niu and Gu Xu helped Xia Weian carry the backpack into the kitchen.
I saw two rabbits, two pheasants and a pile of sweet potatoes in the backpack.
Gu Xu couldn't help but praise, "Uncle Wei'an, you are so amazing."
Then the young man went over and hugged Xia Weian's arm, "Uncle Weian, when are we going up the mountain? You can catch so many prey by yourself, and you can definitely catch more if you take us with you."
Gu Xu was full of confidence and he felt that he was a very good little hunter.
"In two days, uncle just went up the mountain once, and it will be a bit tiring to take you up again." Xia Weian said with a smile.
Lu Huailin looked at Xia Weian. He knew that his uncle didn't take everyone up the mountain so quickly because he was concerned about his injuries.
When she came back from the hospital, my aunt said that she couldn't do any strenuous exercise for the time being.
The uncle is protecting his self-esteem very carefully. A little boy's self-esteem is very important.
The corners of Lu Huailin's lips rose slightly, and he liked this home more and more.
But he was still a little worried, worried that he would bring bad things to this warm home.
Lu Huailin was feeling a little disappointed, and Xia Weian saw it.
"Lu Lu, come and help your uncle."
"I can do it too, uncle." Gu Xu said loudly. He was also a man, and he would definitely participate in things that a man could do.
"Xu Xu, go to the river and catch some small fish and shrimp with your sisters. I'll make fish and shrimp paste for you to eat in the evening."
"Okay." Gu Xu responded and went to find Erniu and the others.
Xia Weian took Lu Huailin's hand and they went to the backyard together.
"Lu Lu, you don't seem to be in a good mood. Are you unhappy living in your uncle's house?"
"No, I'm very happy." Lu Huailin said hurriedly. He didn't know how to explain so that Xia Weian would not drive him away.
"Uncle, don't chase me away. I'm really not unhappy." Lu Huailin was very anxious.
"Uncle won't drive you away."
Xia Weian rubbed Lu Huailin's head, his eyes gentle, "If there is anything you need your uncle to do for you, you can tell your uncle."
Lu Huailin didn't know why, but he felt his heart swollen and sour, and his nose suddenly felt sore. He felt like crying, so he hugged Xia Weian.
"My mother died when I was born, and my father also died that day. Everyone said that I was the unlucky star that brought death to my parents, and that no one who was with me would have a good ending."
"My grandparents raised me until I was three, and then they died. I was taken care of by my third uncle, and he had no one else around him."
"They said it was because Third Uncle had killed so many people that he had a lot of evil spirit. He was with a star born out of bad luck, so neither of them could influence the other."
The more Lu Huailin spoke, the lower his voice became. He was very afraid that Xia Weian would kick him out because of his affairs. He coveted the warmth of the Xia family, but was afraid that if he did not tell the truth, it would affect the Xia family.
"My aunt fell and got injured just after I got home." Lu Huailin's eyes turned red as he spoke.
Xia Weian gently tightened his embrace and patted Lu Huailin on the back, "Silly boy, your aunt fell into a deep pit."
"And we also found treasures at the bottom of the deep pit."
Lu Huailin's eyes widened. "What treasure, uncle?"
The child's attention was instantly diverted.
"It's a very old Ganoderma lucidum. It can be sold for a lot of money."
"Lu Lu, you are not some unlucky star, and you will not bring disaster to others."
"Aunt fell down because of her own carelessness. It has nothing to do with you."
"Your father died because he was a hero."
"Yes, my dad is a hero."
"A hero's sacrifice deserves everyone's respect. He wasn't killed by you. Your mother did everything she could to bring you into this world because she loved you and she hoped this love could be passed on."
"Your grandparents won't blame you. Birth, aging, sickness and death are all normal for human beings. We can't change it." Xia Weian said in a gentle voice.
Lu Huailin couldn't hold back his tears and finally shed them. He raised his hand and wiped them away vigorously. "Thank you, uncle."
"You're welcome." Xia Weian looked at Lu Huailin with gentle but firm eyes.
Lu Huailin suddenly felt that something had taken root in his heart...
"Uncle, after my third uncle and I go back, can I still come to see you when I'm free? Can I still stay at home?"
"Of course. You're already part of our family, and you're always welcome."
"Thank you, uncle." Lu Huailin couldn't help but throw himself into Xia Weian's arms and cried a little.
After he cried enough, Xia Weian helped him wash his face and sort out his emotions before taking Lu Huailin back to the front yard.
