Chapter 214 Comparison is the thief of joy
Facing Da Bao and Liu Nian, Sister Yang became even more smug, raising her voice as she pointed to the words in the picture book and said, "Pengpeng, tell me, what is this word?"
Yang Peng whispered, "Big."
"That's right!" Sister Yang beamed with joy. "Continue!"
Hmph! Yang Peng is a few months younger than Da Bao, so does that mean his son is smarter and more capable than Da Bao? Just because Liu Nian's son is a child prodigy? Her son has to be too!
But Yang Peng stammered and couldn't answer anymore.
With so many people watching, he was afraid, even more afraid of being scolded for not being able to answer. The more he thought about it, the more anxious he became, glancing nervously at Sister Yang.
With so many people watching, Sister Yang was getting anxious and yelled, "Say it! Don't you know this character? We reviewed it today! Say it!"
Hearing her yell at him, Yang Peng burst into tears, tears streaming down his face. Everyone around him felt sorry for him.
"What are you crying for!" Mrs. Yang was a little embarrassed. She had originally wanted to show off, but her son had embarrassed her instead. She pulled Yang Peng over and said irritably, "You better think about it again!"
Yang Peng sobbed, his face turning red, and kept pushing away his sister-in-law's hand, saying, "Mom, no! No!"
"Alright, alright, the child is too young." Someone couldn't bear to watch and quickly advised Sister Yang, "The child is so young, how can you be so heartless?"
"How can you be so heartless as a mother? The child is too young, it's normal that he can't remember. Why are you putting so much pressure on him?"
Liu Nian wanted to go up and say something, but she knew her position was awkward, so she pulled Da Bao to stand far away.
Aunt Yang angrily pulled Yang Peng aside and said, "Maybe there are too many people today, and my Pengpeng is shy with strangers. He's not usually like this; he knows a lot of words."
A group of villagers quickly tried to smooth things over for her, saying, "Yes, yes, children are shy around strangers."
"Pengpeng, come here." Da Bao suddenly waved to Pengpeng.
Yang Peng, who had been crying, gradually stopped and tried to go over, but his wife kept holding on tightly. In the end, Yang Peng finally shook off her hand and ran towards Da Bao.
Liu Nian bent down and told Da Bao, "Then you take care of your little brother and have fun."
Da Bao nodded obediently, holding his little sketchbook. He took Yang Peng's hand, whispered something in his ear, and then the two brothers walked into the house affectionately.
“Kids have things in common.” Liu Nian watched as the two of them closed the door with an air of importance, then craned her neck to look and said, “They’re quite mysterious.”
"Hey girl, when is your eldest child going to school? I'd like my eldest child to go to school and learn something too." Yang's wife ran her hand through her hair and said, "My Yang Peng loves to study and learns very quickly."
Everyone sighed inwardly. This Mrs. Yang was probably going to compete with Liu Nian. Liu Nian's child was called a prodigy, and she wouldn't stand for that! So she forced her child to study all day long. If Liu Nian's child was going to kindergarten, she wanted her child to go too.
Everyone can see all of this clearly, but can you really compare things as easily as you want? Every family wants their child to be smart, studious, and bring honor to the family. However, this is just like making money; wanting to and being able to make money are only one word apart, yet the difference is worlds apart.
Liu Nian also saw through Yang's thoughts, so she had to change the subject, saying, "The child is too young, the kindergarten may not accept him."
Sister Yang nodded, "That's true, there are age requirements for enrollment."
