Everyone was embarrassed, especially Dong Shunfa, who immediately stood up angrily, "I didn't ask you for anything! What are you doing here?"
"I'm laughing at you." Liu Nian curled the corners of her lips slightly.
"You—" Dong Shunfa's hunched body trembled, "Are you having a good time laughing at us?"
Liu Nian said seriously, "No matter how much you disagree with me, I hope you understand that we are both adults. Adults should be rational and put aside their prejudices."
“You look down on me because I’m a woman and haven’t received higher education,” Liu Nian said slowly. “But I’m a farmer, and no one knows more about the things in the fields than a farmer.”
"Alright, I've laughed enough, I'm leaving." Liu Nian curled the corners of her lips and looked at Dong Shunfa. "Teacher Dong, if you need me, come and apologize, I'll accept it."
"Women hold up half the sky. You look down on women, so you were wrong from the start."
These words were spoken with such magnanimity that they put the group of men to shame. Moreover, they left Dong Shunfa speechless, as if continuing to sulk would make him seem inconsiderate! Even his students were swayed by Liu Nian, their gazes towards him now carrying a hint of admiration.
Dong Shunfa slammed his hand on the table, stood up, and said, "Fine, let's go apologize!"
He not only had to apologize, but he also had to make a big show of it! He wanted to elevate Liu Nian so that if anything really happened, Liu Nian would be held responsible! "He's quite old, and a learned professor at that! Liu Nian really thinks she's someone important!"
"What's there to be so smug about? Just because you've gained the county magistrate's favor doesn't mean you can look down on everyone else."
Hearing the crowd uphold justice for him, a smile flashed across Dong Shunfa's face; this was exactly the effect he wanted.
Two students helped him up, and Dong Shunfa looked regretful, saying, "It's all my fault. I was only trying to help her. I was worried that the work in the greenhouse would be too tiring. That kind of work isn't for women."
Look how considerate this professor is! Liu Nian is biting the hand that feeds him! Just as the crowd was about to continue their tirade, Liu Nian's smiling voice rang out first.
"Teacher Dong! What brings you to my house?" Liu Nian quickly ran over and helped Dong Shunfa up. "I just went to the shed. I've marked your questions. You can correct them when you get back."
"You see, I didn't even let you know beforehand, so you came to my house early, but no one was home. I'm so sorry."
Liu Nian's sincere apology put Dong Shunfa in another difficult position. This woman had one face to people's faces and another behind their backs; she really did two things.
Dong Shunfa chuckled awkwardly, "You've really thought of everything."
Everyone immediately chimed in, "I knew it! I've watched Niannian grow up since she was little, her character is impeccable!"
"Exactly! They went to the shed to resolve their issues, but some people are saying that Liu Nian was deliberately trying to intimidate them. It's ridiculous!"
Liu Nian shook his head. These villagers, whatever they say, they're the ones who decide. Whether something is good or bad, it all comes down to their words.
Dong Shunfa and his group slunk away. Liu Nian knew that the competition to come would only increase.
They still looked down on her, simply because she was a woman.
After being busy for several days in a row, Liu Nian was so tired that she fell asleep as soon as she lay down on the kang (a heated brick bed). Today she finally had some free time.
Su Xu said quietly, "Don't you feel like you've been neglecting me?"
He glanced at her with a wronged look, accusing her of his dissatisfaction.
"Oh, you're jealous now." Liu Nian sat directly on the man's lap, hugged his neck, and said coquettishly, "I'll satisfy you later!"
Liu Nian then went a step further, biting the man's earlobe and poking his waist.
These were Su Xu's fatal weaknesses, and he immediately felt a choke point.
"You're really good at nagging." Su Xu ground his back teeth, enduring the discomfort but not doing anything. Instead, he gently stroked her back and said, "Niannian, I feel sorry for you."
He was afraid Liu Nian would get tired, and he couldn't bear to see her being criticized and subjected to public opinion.
"What? You don't miss me? Alright, stop dawdling." Liu Nian directly pulled off her clothes, her eyes gleaming coquettishly. "Hurry up and get on the bed! I've been holding back for days!"
These were outrageous words! Su Xu was so shocked that his face turned red, and he picked up Liu Nian and hoisted her onto his shoulder.
"Alright, I'll feed you tonight!"
