The tone was very unwelcoming.
Su Zhenye cursed inwardly, "You unfilial son!"
"Oh, we heard your wife is pregnant, so we came to check on you," Wang Xiuzhi said, nudging Su Zhenye.
Su Zhen said seriously, "Your mother is doing this for your own good. She heard that Liu Niantai is not settled yet, so she plans to move here to take care of you."
"Take care of me? Forget it." Liu Nian sneered. "Everyone knows how Su Xu's biological mother died. You want to take care of me? Do you think I'm tired of living?"
"Daughter-in-law, how could you say that?" Wang Xiuzhi immediately looked aggrieved. "I did make mistakes before, but people can change. I'm taking care of you to atone for my sins!"
Wang Xiuzhi was calculating in her mind. Although she was supposed to be taking care of Liu Nian, how exactly she was taking care of her would be unseen by others. She could get some good food and drinks here, and maybe even sneak some home.
Everyone in the village saw that Su Xu bought a cartload of food and drink, all for a woman. Wang Xiuzhi didn't want to cause any trouble, so she came up with this idea.
If Liu Nian dared to say no, she would make a scene that would be known throughout the whole village. What kind of mother-in-law would take care of her pregnant daughter-in-law and not appreciate it? She was simply ungrateful!
“If you really want to atone for your sins, kowtow a few more times at Su Xu’s mother’s grave, and then I’ll believe you’ve repented,” Liu Nian said.

Wang Xiuzhi was immediately put in an awkward position, and it was she who said she wanted to atone for her sins.
Wang Xiuzhi's face immediately turned extremely ugly, her expression long and drawn. She had finally managed to rise to power back then, and she hated that woman to death. How could she possibly ask her to wear mourning clothes for him?
"Don't even think about it!" Wang Xiuzhi screamed, glaring at Liu Nian with resentment.
"Then please leave!" Su Xu strode to the door, opened it, and looked at Wang Xiuzhi with icy eyes.
"I've truly wasted my time raising you as a son!" Su Zhenye said, his hands behind his back, his face grim. "You're unfilial!"
That was his own father, so Su Xu didn't know what to say and pursed his lips tightly.
But Liu Nian couldn't bear to see her man wronged, so she rushed out.
He started cursing at Su Zhenye—
"Did you think about Su Xu when you were having an affair? Now you want to act like parents? You don't deserve it!"
With just that shout, all the neighbors came out.
Liu Nian stood in the crowd and said, "Mother-in-law, you're the one who said you wanted to atone for your sins, so go and atone for my own mother-in-law! What's the point of you coming here to atone for your sins? I'm just a junior, I can't accept that!"
"If you really have that intention, go to my mother-in-law's grave and wear mourning clothes!"
Everyone in Jiangjuntun knew about Wang Xiuzhi and Su Zhenye's scandalous affair, and when Liu Nian said it, everyone nodded in agreement.
"Hmph, what are you saying, pretending to be nice?"
"They just think they can't count on Su Hang anymore, so now they're trying to curry favor with Su Xu. Don't they even know what they've done before? They have no shame!"
"Those two old bastards are all wicked and corrupt. They climbed to power through adultery. Atonement? How can they atone? She drove someone to their death. She can only pay with her own life! That's what atonement is!"
The group berated Su Zhenye and Wang Xiuzhi mercilessly, and had no choice but to slink back to the educated youth settlement.
