Chapter 67 requires a paternity test.
When the group arrived, Liu Hua was standing at the door with them.
The old beggar woman sat on a large stone at the doorway, her clothes patched all over, her white hair topped with straw dust, holding a cane, muttering to herself—
"My daughter, my daughter, Mom's here to find you, Mom's here to find you—"
As Liu Nian and Su Xu walked over, the old lady immediately looked at them.
"Oh dear, my daughter, where's my daughter!" The old lady stood up shakily. "Are you this family?"
Liu Nian and Su Xu exchanged a glance. Liu Hua secretly tugged at Liu Nian's hand and asked, "This person is looking for Zhang Shiwan. Who is Zhang Shiwan?"
She glanced at Su Xu with considerable displeasure, wondering if Su Xu had been having an affair and someone's family had come knocking on her door.
Liu Hua glared at him fiercely. Liu Nian was pregnant, and he was actually looking for someone outside!
Sensing his mother-in-law's gaze, Su Xu quickly half-squatted down and asked the old lady, "Auntie, hello, can you tell me who Zhang Shiwan is?"
The old woman stared with cloudy eyes, and when she opened her mouth, her words were slurred because she had no teeth. "My daughter! I'm looking for my daughter! She ran away with Su Zhenye back then!"
Su Zhenye! That's the key point.
"Could she be Su Zhenye's first wife?" Everyone looked at Su Xu, whose eyes flickered, and he gently took the old lady's hand. "You mean Su Zhenye is your son-in-law?"
Could this person be Su Xu's maternal grandmother?
Liu Nian quickly squatted down as well. The old lady's eyes darted around, staring blankly at the people. "Yes, back then our family didn't agree, so she ran off with that man and hasn't sent a single word home all these years."
"My daughter, how is she?" The old lady gripped Su Xu's hand tightly, her voice choked with sobs as she said, "Our family has suffered a terrible tragedy. We have nothing left but this old woman!"
As she spoke, she began to sob.
Su Xu's face tightened as he stroked the old man's hand, his eyes reddening.
"I have no money, so I can only beg for food as I walk towards this place. I just want to see my daughter one more time! My daughter!" The old man wiped away his tears with his thin, dry hands, his dark, gaunt face looking at the crowd.
Which one is my daughter?
"No, that's all," Su Xu said, his voice trembling as he tried to hold back his tears.
The onlookers sniffed and wiped away their tears. No one dared to answer; they only whispered among themselves.
"How pitiful! There's nothing to rely on at home. The daughter the old lady planned to go to was killed by that bitch Wang Xiuzhi long ago!"
"How pitiful!"
"But thankfully, I still have a grandson to rely on, and my granddaughter-in-law is still so capable."
Everyone looked at Liu Nian, their eyes fixed on her. Liu Nian hadn't said a word; did she not want to take care of her?
Liu Nian frowned. In her previous life, there was no such thing as a woman traveling thousands of miles to find her daughter. Otherwise, Liu Nian would have known that Su Xu was not Wang Xiuzhi's biological son.
Could it be that after she was reborn, she discovered Su Xu's background, triggering a butterfly effect?
Seeing Liu Nian frowning and deep in thought, someone immediately gave her a cold look and said, "So, this old lady is Su Xu's maternal grandmother. You'd better treat her well."
"Yes, yes, the old lady has had a really tough time. She has no one else at home! She has been living a life of hardship all this way. You should let her enjoy her old age in peace."
Zhang Suzhen was shrewd, and quickly said, "Of course, my sister is very filial. If this old lady is really my brother-in-law's maternal grandmother, not only my sister, but our whole family will have to be filial to her!"
"Yes, yes, yes." Liu Hua quickly gave Liu Nian a look.
"Grandma, this is your grandson!" Liu Nian smiled and helped the old lady up, then said to Liu Hua and Zhang Suzhen, "Sisters-in-law, please help me prepare a room for Grandma to stay in later."
"Find a few more clean clothes to change into, and take a shower with them."
Zhang Suzhen and Liu Hua nodded and said, "Okay, don't worry about your twin body."
Liu Nian looked at Su Xu, whose gaze remained fixed on the old man's face, his eyes lowered, seemingly lost in thought.
The old lady, laughing and crying at the same time, held Su Xu's hand, exclaiming, "My grandson! This is my grandson!"
A group of people watched and cried along with her, sighing, "Well done, the old lady can enjoy her life from now on."
Zhang Suzhen and Liu Hua helped Su Xu tidy up a side room. The old lady was so happy that she looked around and touched everything, unable to contain her curiosity.
"Your home is so nice, so nice!" The old lady smiled broadly, then said to Su Xu, "The side room is too small, could I stay in the room across from yours?"
The layout of their house is as follows: there are two main rooms, with the main hall and kitchen in the middle.
Before Su Xu could speak, Liu Nian said, "Of course you can. You live across from us, so it's close by and we can take good care of you."
"Oh, alright! Good girl!" The old lady's face was full of wrinkles, and she chuckled.
"Su Xu, go buy some toothbrushes and underwear for the old lady," Liu Hua instructed. "We'll take her to take a bath later."
Su Xu was instructed by Liu Hua to leave the house.
"Come on." The mother-in-law and daughter-in-law pulled Liu Nian to the outer room and whispered, "Why did an old lady suddenly appear? You'd better find out more."
The group of people watched the old woman's happy and excited expression, touching the clean mattress and quilt, their eyes crinkling with laughter.
Hearing the news of his daughter's death, he showed no sadness whatsoever, and never mentioned it again. That doesn't make sense, does it?
Liu Nian nodded.
Zhang Suzhen turned slightly to Liu Nian and said, "We're not being unfilial, but we should always be more careful, shouldn't we?"
"You can't show it before you have any evidence. First, your husband might have a problem with you, and second, if your reputation for being unfilial gets out, you'll be talked about behind your back." Liu Hua frowned and gave her instructions. She looked up and saw that the old lady was looking at them.
Liu Hua and Zhang Suzhen quickly smiled at the old lady and went into the house. They immediately felt that the old lady was definitely a difficult person to deal with.
Su Xu definitely believed her; Liu Nian had no doubt about that. Liu Nian also wanted to be kind to her man's only elder. However, was this old lady really Su Xu's grandmother? Liu Nian's kindness couldn't be taken advantage of so easily.
Unsure if paternity testing could be done on a mobile phone, Liu Nian pondered for a moment and decided to give it a try first.
She needed to find out what was going on.
